The future of Blur after "Gorillaz"

This is for the music fans out there; just a little poll.

How much will Blur’s next album be influenced by the success of “Gorillaz”, Damon Albarn’s side project?

I’ve been listening a lot lately to “Gorillaz” (love it!)and I started thinking that maybe Blur seemed to have hit a dead-end on “13” with the contemplative, broody style. Maybe Albarn needed an escape from “serious” musical endeavors, and just cut loose.

I think the next album will reflect the good-natured fun that “Gorillaz” seems to give off, which was evident in Blur back in the days of “Parklife”.

If you do think that the next Blur will sound more happy, what songs on “Gorillaz” are a harbinger of things to come, IYHO?

Don’t get me wrong, I do like Damon and I like Blur. However, I absolutely hate the Gorillaz. “Clint Eastwood” is fierce competion for “Drops of Jupiter” by Train in the contest to be my least favorite song of 2001. Both songs are terrible(happy? that’s supposed to be happy?), and I hope there are very few additional singles.

Hopefully, Blur will continue despite Damon’s lamentable side project, like Tool has despite A Perfect Circle’s deserved success.

didnt blur sing that “whooo hooo” song? and also “hey man nice shot” and “boys who are girls who do girls like there boys and yadda yadda yadda”? i like them.

never heard of the gorrilaz though

peace,
JB

“didnt blur sing that “whooo hooo” song?”

Yes

"and also “hey man nice shot” "

No, that would be Filter

"and “boys who are girls who do girls like there boys and yadda yadda yadda”? "

Yes

ahhh…thanks localloop

Gorrilaz was that Blur guy? Wow.

I like their song, but im not really into rap, so i never though about buying the album. Is it all rap or what?

If i could recommend something, it would have to be System of a Down’s new single “Chop Suey.” It kicks ass. Great vocals, and it makes you think. I can’t wait for their album to come out.

And what is that “girls who like boys… bla bla bla” song called?

Strangely enough, it’s called Girls & Boys, on the Parklife album.

The whoo hoo song is called Song #2

But nothing is,no

When I feel like heavy metal…

umm, i can’t give the best answer on this, as i haven’t heard the whole album, only clint eastwood.

for a start, although damon albarn is a big part of blur, they are a band, so while he might bring some of the gorillaz influences to the next album, each of the other members will also bring their ideas.

also, i’m led to believe that a big part of the gorillaz sound is dan the automator, who is not a part of blur - gorillaz isn’t a side project like a perfect circle was for maynard james keenan, it is closer to a supergroup than one person’s side project.

for this reason, i don’t think any new blur album will sound too much like gorillaz, but having said that, i wouldn’t be surprised if damon did bring some of those influences in to the blur sound.

i’m expecting their next recording to continue in the vein of ‘blur’ and ‘13’ - weird, very indie and very lo-fi. i doubt we’ll get a return to the brit-pop sound of old, i think i’ve heard that they aren’t particular fond of their older work, though don’t quote me on this.

so, i think that while it mightn’t be as sombre or as melancholic as 13 (much of the mood of the album was the result of a long term relationship between damon and… someone ending), it will still have the oddities and eccentricities that that album had - although still with pop melodies, even 13 had coffee and tv. music is my radar is probably a good indication of where they’re going.

actually, music is my radar was quite a fun sort of song, so yeah, they’ll proabably have a bit of fun again.

I’m not really a huge Blur fan, but that Gorillaz CD is really good. There’s only about 2 songs on it that are rap (BTW, that’s Del the Funky Homosapian rapping (stupid anme, but he’s done some decent stuff)), So I find it weird that they released “Clint Eastwood” as the single – I think that a lot of people have the wrong impression as to what their album sounds like. The rest of the album I compare to Moby’s “Play”. Not so much that it sounds like Moby, but the album has a mellow, electronica feel to it that rarely stays in one place.

Is there anyone else here who heard the Clint Eastwood garage mix on the radio, loved it, thought it was the actual song, bought the album based on that one mistake and then found that the album version is totally different and that the rest of the album is just pretty average?
