I’ve been thinking about ciabatta bread. It’s been a couple of years since I’ve last made ciabatta, but it’s so good for sandwiches.
My supper was a summer, no cook one too. Toss salad, some sliced chicken and avocado on a spinach tortilla and a small peach for dessert.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 17c/63f with a predicted high of 22c/72f and mostly cloudy. Weather app says “Cloudy with a fucking chance of bullshit.”
Yesterday turned out busy, one of my meetings cancelled so I only had two to deal with along with an hour’s training session. I’ve now got a load of training things to do for a new set of systems that are coming our way shortly so I’ll have to get on with those before too long.
I decamped to the kitchen after irk and made campus food for two days. It didn’t take too long so I also got a bit of sofa time with Blossom until it was time to feed the mogs, get changed and go to the gym. I saw a message on FB from the gym about roadworks on the small access street to their carpark so I diverted round a side road and parked in the little retail park next door instead. It’s only a short walk to the gym from there so not a big deal. Kettlebells was fun, I was very hot by the end of the class though. Went home and vegged on the sofa until 'im indoors provided me with dinner. We watched some old tellybox stuff before I headed to bed at my usual time.
Up early this morning for the campus trek, the trains were actually quite good today so I got here in a fairly reasonable time. Just in time to sort out another one of TM’s fuck-ups.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 75 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 93 and sunny. We shall procure provisions later this mornin’ and get fried chikin plates from the Pubic sto’ for today’s main need to feed. The rest of the day shall be inside in the a/c as that seems to be a particularly good idea.
Lily if it’s any consolation, I am also a member of the set off the smoke detector while cookin’ club. Hope your insurance does approve your invisaligns.
Coppertone a/c on the bus is a silver linin’. Also cats do that to remind you who is in charge.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I suppose I shall purtify and don attire acceptable for bein’ amongst the great unwashed. Life can be so difficult!
Happy Hump Day Y’all! Happy Canada Day Canadian Mumpers!
Afternoon all.
We used to refer to the smoke detector as the ‘dinner alarm’, it went off so often during cooking… I’ve just replaced mine, which was an excellent stir fry alert. The new one has been better behaved so far, or maybe it’s because the windows and door are often open cos it’s warm.
The forecast for today was sunny and 20Cish. It lied. It’s all overcast and there’s rain on the way, though the temperature isn’t too far off, it doesn’t feel warm.
Am at home writing again today, but debating nipping out to the shops. I should probably put that off until evening, but I am almost out of snacks, and doing boring writing, editing and rewriting at home without snacks just isn’t right. How am I supposed to bribe myself into doing the boring bits without bribes?
The grands are gone - their dad was as good at gold about getting them just after 7. Of course, they didn’t fall asleep till almost midnight, but I heard them get up when Alexa told them to. Anyway, peace reigns again.
I learned there’s a cartoon called BatWheels - talking vehicles that hang out with the BatMobile, plus bad vehicles, too. It’s on Netflix if you want to check it out. I wouldn’t recommend it, but the kids like it.
Today is starting with 72 Ferrets, on the way to mid-90s. And the next three days threaten triple digits with Extreme Heat Watch. I can see our a/c getting a workout. Dammit.
Depending on when I get in gear, I may try to move more gravel today - I’m guessing there’s 500-600# left. FCD has a Dr appt at 9:30 - maybe I’ll work till he gets back. I need to go to Food Lion because he’s out of 'nanners, plus coke products are on sale. Nothing on the agenda beyond that. Yet.
Just enjoying the quiet for a bit. Happy Wednesday!
This thing is so dumb, it probably thinks it’s a washing machine.
71F and rain upon arising this morning. We’ll hit low 80s later today, which is normally bearable but for the humidity.
I’ll be making breakfast sandwiches in a bit, then a shrimp/pasta salad later on. Also have to make a quick trip to the grocery for a few things. Other than an exercise session, that’s about it.
Cool and overcast. No rain. Might get some cloud mist, but I’ll need to water. Windows open to clear the residual burnt odor from last night. I’m thinking hardboiled egg and fruit for breakfast, maybe with yogurt.
A goose just flew by, which excited the cat very much.
Ambitious cat. ![]()
today is the first day of the anticipated heat wave. i left the bedroom ac on for the cats. set it to 76.
our office decided to close on friday not monday (don’t know why they originally said monday). kinda bummed about that. ah, well. it just moves my very loose plans a day over.
It’s 8:02 am, and already it’s 79 degrees F. “Feels like” 86, say the weather folks, and we’re headed towards 95, which will feel like Extreme Heat Warning. I need a haircut, but I don’t wanna go out in that.
I started my new extended-release Parkinson’s drug this morning. In theory, it will smooth out the peak and valleys of my between-the-doses symptoms. We’ll see how that goes.
It’s July now, and the folks on the radio are doing their “don’t do stupid stuff with fireworks” warnings, with statements from surgeons, who say “we don’t need any extra work.”
D’oh! I forgot.
Time for breakfast. Be cool.
Bacon is cooking for a breakfast burrito. It won’t be cool, though; I’m going to try it with the ghost pepper sauce.
Just walked a mile and a third again.
Morning all. Up and fed, got the dishwasher running and will do some banking a little later in the morning, which will complete my adult activities for the day. Given that it is already 86F at 8am (high is supposed to be 94F), spending time outside is contraindicated. Gym is on a ‘we’ll see’ basis.
And condiment (catch-up) time…
I’m cringing just reading that, while I have no particular aches now, I’ve been in that situation and I know what you mean. Take care.
swampy, I’ll be out quite a bit in July on vacation, need to remember to take caps and some Not Our Coppertone with me. And while I used to watch the St. Louis Cardinals from the left field bleachers (our chant: “Right Field Sucks”), I remember one make-up game late one year with about 1,200 people total there, so I got some great seating on the 1st base line.
lily, I get flossed twice a year (during my dental checkups) but that is it.
Flyboy, I am the blandest eater on the planet, using any type of hot sauce is taboo for me, can’t imagine what it would be like to eat something that hot. But keep on walking.
FCM, I read a weekly Batman-oriented web-comic and that’s enough Caped Crusader for me. Pace yourself with the gravel, even in the morning, heat exhaustion is not much fun.
Knots, hopefully the drug will work as promised.
And onward into the morning. Have a good Hump Day all.
She’s getting you trained up…
boo fae, happy TM sorting…
Good morning, folks. It was 72ºF and (say it with me) humid this morning. Mrs Magill was still tired this morning, so it was just Chloé and me. It was a quiet morning. The only (non-avian) wee beastie we saw was a chipmunk. The sunrise was mostly nice. I’m guessing the Sahara dust that was being talked about missed Middle Tennessee.
Today is Fang’s twenty-third birthday. I’ve still have not had my discussion with him. He should be okay with it. One of his best friends in high school was a trans boy, but these things hit differently when it’s close to home.
Dinner tonight will probably be at The House of India. Fang has already declared his intention to have their buffet for lunch. He has not committed to dinner plans yet. If he doesn’t want Indian, he’ll probably want to go to the hibachi for the Fastest Knife in the West show.
I have no idea what this is like. “I’m just innocently playing with my ball. Oh, no. It has just rolled under the couch, after I nudged it with my nose. Who will ever be able to reach in those two inches for me?” BARK! BARK!
Swampy, Lily, & Nuts - If I didn’t have a smoke alarm, how else would I wake up everyone else to eat the bacon I was making for me?
FCM - Mrs Magill was asked at yoga last night if it was nice to have all the kids back under one roof. She said right after having three young men in their late teens/early twenties run around the house like they were still five was not the time to ask her.
“Keep your feet on the ground, but keep reaching for the stars.” - Casey Kasem.
our office decided to close on friday not monday (don’t know why they originally said monday). kinda bummed about that. ah, well. it just moves my very loose plans a day over.
Wait - I don’t have work Friday. I’ll call the wig shop and try for an appointment Friday afternoon. I’d rather have my sister here. As she put it: she has opinions, and she’s not afraid to share them.
Pace yourself with the gravel, even in the morning, heat exhaustion is not much fun.
Gravel is all spread and the truck bed has been rinsed out. It took me 2 sessions to move 1700# of little rocks out of the truck to the ground, then spread around as evenly as I could. I expect I’ll take the rake to it a few more times as it settles in place.
After cleaning the truck bed, I watered the plants on the front porch before coiling up the hose. FCD has gone to the Dr and when he gets back, I’ll go to Food Lion. I don’t need to wait for him, but I don’t feel like running to the store just now, so he’s a good excuse.
The dishwasher is going thru its cleaning cycle - I do that the first of the month, just because. As little as we use it, I could probably do it ever other month with no problem. Maybe I will.
I should decide what to that for supper. Maybe some ham?
Good morning.
It’s 52F and partly cloudy right now. The forecast calls for mostly cloudy to cloudy skies, with a daytime high of 67F. I am grateful that it isn’t hot.
Good news, Hippie!
I hope the new meds help you, AskNott.
FCM, I saw the pics of your work on FB. Nice!
So, we headed to the big orange store yesterday and purchased stuff to paint the guest bathroom. It started out badly. Mr. Taters’ “Project Asshole” mode came out. We had tentatively agreed on a paint color the night before, but yesterday morning, he was coming at me with colors not even close to what we agreed on. I pushed back, he got nasty and dismissive, I walked away “to look at rollers and stuff”. We eventually settled on a color, but I wasn’t really happy with it. Anyway, we got everything we needed to do that room and came home.
We washed the walls and ceiling, let them dry, taped and draped everything, and I started cutting in along the ceiling. Next, we painted the ceiling, and then I finished cutting in along the door jamb, baseboard, and all the corners. Today, we’ll put another coat on the ceiling and paint the walls. I forgot how unforgivable semi-gloss is. The next bathrooms will have an eggshell finish at most. The rest of the house will be flat or matte.
My husband is happy that we’re getting started, but I told him “Project Asshole” is fired and needs to go away. I also told him that I won’t put up with that again. Next, he decided I needed to get rid of my nice WFH desk in the bonus room. I told him that it isn’t happening, and then I was accused of hoarding junk. Says the man with the jankiest and ugliest of computer desks.
My desk is very, very nice. It’s too big for the den downstairs if I have to share the den. Perfect for a single person in the den, though.
Last night we talked about moving his upstairs computer in there, but, honestly, I think I want to move my computer from the den up there. Then I have my own space. He currently uses three spaces for his computer and VR games: my daughter’s old bedroom, the bonus room for VR, and the den. I’m kind of sick of that because I don’t really have a space that’s mine. Which is ridiculous when you consider this house’s square footage.
In a bit, I’ll head out and water the posies, because although it’s been gray, it’s also been relatively dry here. At about 9:00 or 10:00, I’ll head back to the bathroom upstairs and get started. We’ll probably finish that room today, or tomorrow morning at the latest. It’s actually not that large, but I’m trying to give plenty of time for the paint to dry before adding another coat.
For now, though, I’ll enjoy some peace and quiet along with another cup of coffee.
Please take care of yourselves.
Another 90 day. Going to dermatologist. Tomorrow my food stamps fill up. I have 1.48 left for today.
Gravel is all spread and the truck bed has been rinsed out. It took me 2 sessions to move 1700# of little rocks out of the truck to the ground, then spread around as evenly as I could.
When we lived in Charlotte, our back yard had a berm that rose twenty feet. After nearly killing myself several times trying to mow it, we decided to mulch and plant trees to bring the woods out a bit. Mecklenburg County waste would sell you a semi trailer full of mulch for dirt cheap. Every couple of years, I would take a week of work and spend eight hours a day with a pitchfork and a wheelbarrow moving the mulch from the front to the back then spreading.
Today is Fang’s twenty-third birthday.
Happy birthday Fang!
I hope that hubby straightens up and flies right soonest, taters.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. I’ll hit Aldi today to round out the grocery shopping, but not a whole lot else planned.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
wow! that is a lot. i hope the colour is going well.
everyone needs their own spot. a corner, a square, a room. then have the items they like in it without complaint. tough in a studio apt. not so tough in a house.
