The Gift of Life in the MMP

Our county landfill will give you all the mulch you want for free. But there’s no telling what you get - bits of plastic bags, poison ivy, invasive weed bits, thorns… To me, it’s not worth it. Not that I have huge areas to mulch. If I did, I might think differently.

My sweetie is home. I’m having lunch, then I’ll make a 'nanner run. Then, we shall see. He asked for wings for supper, so I’ll probably have me a hunk o’fish.

Ad astra per aspera, as the cats would say if they knew Latin, but they don’t. I’ve tried to teach them sic transit gloria mundi, but they just yawn. This may or may not be a response.

Yeah, but I’m always glad of it when a cat horks on the wall.

Sorry for the stress. And you should have your own space.

[Unsent morning post]Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave. It’s 76 degrees Ferret Height(24.444 Centipedes) outside. [/unsent morning post]

It wasn’t a horrible sort for once, maybe the FSM touched us with his noodly appendage this day. On the walk back to the car I saw something funny. Somebody in a Kia Soul was driving on a flat, and probably wrecking the expensive aluminum rim. The funny part was the car was being tailgated by a box truck from Kiki’s Tires. A fresh batch of sketti sauce is in the crockpot.

I celebrate since I get mistaken for Canadian. Weird, eh?
Also Happy NHL Free Agency Day! :ice_hockey:

Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit

I have a porch chipmunk. He hits the feeder when Onan is off terrorizing the neighborhood.
:bottle_with_popping_cork: :birthday_cake: :partying_face:HAPPY BIRTHDAY FANG!!! :birthday_cake: :bottle_with_popping_cork:

Very much so.

Dang June just flew by - I can’t believe July is here already. I mean I can when I go outside because the heat dome seems quite happy with itself and will probably not shift until August. There’s no point in even checking the weather anymore. Highs near 100, and lows in the 80s for the foreseeable future.

I am very jealous of you PNW people.

hippie Congrats on getting to stop the meds! Especially prednisone, that is some nasty stuff. Also, good luck with the creepy neighbor, I would be very unsettled.

taters Good luck with the hubby, hope he’s able to straighten himself out. And I’m another vote for you get your own space too, he can deal with what he’s already got.

Mollie yay for the name change going through! Also, good luck if you talk with Fang.

Metal Mouse You might want to look into that food deal. If you’re going to be in the park most of the day it might be cheaper (unless they restrict it and most food isn’t actually included). I would imagine you’ll spend near $30 just on one meal and a drink.

To be clear, I’ve never actually donated but I’m on the list of willing donors and sent a sample they are presumably still checking for matches. But yes, donating sounds like a very painful and difficult procedure.

lilly That is some good info about those meds/supplements you posted. I need to send that info about glucosamine to my mom - I think she takes it, and she’s got an appointment scheduled with a neurologist because she’s concerned about her brain function. Also, good luck with the Invisalign. I did something similar several years ago and holy cow those first few weeks suuuuucked. I had braces as a kid and I forgot just how much your teeth hurt at first. You get used to it but I couldn’t tolerate more than soft solids for nearly 3 weeks.

There’s a lot I can’t respond to as lunch break is over and I need to head back to the office. Hugs for those that want it! And if you don’t want it, sorry, there’s just gonna be some non-consensual hugging.

Back from grocerying. I didn’t get much, tho I spent over $50, and no meat except for the wee bit in the salads I got at Aldi. EEEESH! On the plus side, I got some mega-yum sweet cherries at Food Lion.

FCD was rather bummed after his Dr visit. No details because he’d hate me sharing here. One thing that stuck out - he said he feels like he won’t be able to do things he wants to do. Based on that, I took a look at our budget and our retirement funds. We have a chunk in a CD that we kept shielding for “emergencies” - theoretically a wise move, but we have 3 other accounts with considerably more for emergencies and almost as readily accessible (maybe 2 days?)

Anyway, I suggested that we each make a list of things we want to do, not taking the other person into consideration, just what each wants. Then we’ll compare lists, talk about schedules and finances and whatever else would be involved, then we’ll try to make some plans. So we’ll see how that goes. I know right away that our little nest egg won’t cover one of the things I’d love to do (cruise to Australia and New Zealand, then hang around there for a month or so.) But I think a transatlantic cruise from Europe will be doable, even with upgraded airfare to get there. I’ll be curious to see how his list matches mine - I’m sure parts will.

We’re now under a heat advisory - glad I got my gravel done early.

Upper 80s again here today. At least I have a short shift this afternoon - I don’t open AND I’m early out. I foresee “needing” to go into the walk-in a lot.

This made me LOL and I am so using this line at the next opportunity.

Today is July 1 so Happy New Year to everyone whose fiscal year starts today. Normally I work an average of 2-2.5 hrs per day but today was 5.75. I had only expected to work 3-3.5 hours today so didn’t eat before work and didn’t take anything for lunch. Working on a bowl of Greek yogurt w/ sliced bananas, blueberries and walnuts. As I drove home, the temp was 97* and supposed to be a high of 99.

There’s 50 new posts since yesterday and can’t read them right now so Yays, Boos, Hugs, Noogies to all as appropriate.

Please stay cool and hydrated! I think I’ll have a cold slice of :watermelon:

Got my dot removed, they will biopsy it. Got the bump on my face froze off.
I made it back in time to go to the church dinner, thankfully.
Its 95. Crap.
The cat man is giving our building ferals extra water.

That’s good of him.

I’m never awake enough to remember that. First thing I say is almost always something to a cat.

Happy to be of service, ma’am.

80 of 87 ferrets at 1600 (heat index 84), which appears to be the high today. 20% chance of rain overnight, and the radar map shows a large green blob that appears to be heading straight toward us. We’re now a few hours into the extreme heat watch; forecast for the next three days is 94, 92, 92. I think I was supposed to get an INR draw this week – if so, it can wait until Monday, when we’re only supposed to get 78 ferrets.

hippie that’s fabulous! Congrats

Our nephew is getting married this fall in the Chicago area. The invite says Formal Attire. Between new suit for Hubs, new gown for me, lodging, parking, meals, gas, tolls, etc, we’re considering sending a generous gift and staying home.

My Mom was 41 when she gave birth to my baby sister and she had a very rough time. She had a number of transfusions and did get Hep C from the transfusions. So, glad they screen for bloodborne pathogens now.
lily do you know when HCV was identified?
somewhere up thread someone mentioned they are put off by all the questions you have to answer. they are correct. The questions are way over the top. There are so freaking many of them. Takes me almost 15 minutes to answer all the questions on the Quick Pass. There have to be at least 20 regarding sexual contact.
I can put up with the questions on the Quick Pass, sort of, but when the screener asks me how many pregnancies I’ve had then asks me if my last pregnancy was in the past 9 months and she has my age, I just started laughing. Then about 3 minutes later she asked me if I’ve ever been pregnant. Not too bright if you couldn’t put the answer to that down yourself lady. I said I already answered how many pregnancies I had several minutes ago. She said, she has to ask because it’s on the Red Cross list. What? The Red Cross thinks they’re going to trip someone up because they potentially lied about having been pregnant x number of times?
But I can put up with that with a bit of an attitude but for crying out loud, learn how to put the needle into someone’s arm in a gentle manner that doesn’t cause a lot of pain. She said just a little pinch. I have news for her; it was like she jabbed a knife into my arm and did it in a way that I could feel it throughout the blood draw. I will not allow Miss Kaitlyn to draw blood from me again. [rant over] The other times I gave blood I barely felt anything so will be donating again.

you’re motivating me to go buy some goggles. don’t know what happened to the ones I used to have but probably new ones would be in order regardless. I don’t like to swim laps without them.
Had dental insurance when I was FT but it wasn’t a benefit that carried over post retirement. I’m just very grateful for the post-retirement health care that I have for Hubs and me; otherwise, we’d be bankrupt and living in a tent somewhere.

BrightTree do you know anyone with technology expertise or can you take your devices to a computer store? I had a similar problem to you. I could receive email on my iPhone and my mini iPad but not on my computer. My daughter’s girlfriend, who used to work at a computer store, was able to get my email to come up on my computer and get them sync’d a few weeks ago. I just sent another TY to her.

red Nelson is just the cutest; I love his coloring.

yepper; I had 3 chocolate chippers, some cheese nips and 2 small packs of fruit gummies. And Hubs bought some peanut M&Ms for me. between the peanuts and the flour in the cookies and cheese nips, I had a complete protein.

I do love your greetings next to a smiling Yogi Bear; always brings a smile.
I wonder if I made a cobbler with peaches and rhubarb if it would be any good. I have both; peaches were just $1.29/lb last circular at Kroger so I took advantage and I have 2 rhubarb plants in my backyard.

lily boy do I hear you about the flossing. My sister says she flosses every single day. I’m embarassed to say how seldom I floss.

Dad, who lived through the Great Depression and was quite affected by it, would take me regularly to watch the Tigers. We always sat in the Center Field bleachers. I got in the habit of liking to be in line with the pitcher, batter, catcher and home plate umpire. Still do but now I sit in the 2nd tier seats directly behind home plate so I am still in line with the pitcher, batter, catcher and home plate umpire. It is more enjoyable as I am able to concentrate on the game better. This month we’re not going until the 29th and hopefully will see our Tigers :broom: the Orioles.

Mollie hope you’re able to get a wig appointment for Friday! :crossed_fingers:

any chance you’re on Threads? there’s a woman in England who coined the phrase “walk away to look at/admire the walls”. Same meaning. Her Thread name is “i_am__sherlocked__”

I think it must be the same for the NBA :basketball: as Mgr told me the Pistons got a good player this morning.

52 I will happily accept a hug. Here’s one right back atcha :people_hugging:

I don’t understand this reference. Little help, please.

And now I’m caught up, Proofread first and found a few missing words so hopefully this all makes sense now. Have a good evening folks!

That’d be my inclination. I don’t do formal. I can manage “not jeans” but if you’re expecting sequins and high heels, tiara optional, that’s just nope.

Supper has been ingested. I’m thinking I’ll sleep with Mel tonight, since the kids kinda messed up my routine last night.

Oh, and I ordered yarn - it’s been several months since I made any lap robes. I need to do something other than play tablet games in the evening, so I shall be productive again. Delivery maybe Firday"??

Currently 68Ferrets, up from 52F and supposed to top out at 72F. Please don’t pelt me with rotten vegetables!

We both have good taste for dinners.

Re Ms. Peach, Ollie liked to play that same annoying game. I fixed his wagon! It happened that I needed a new sofa not long after he showed up. I made sure to get one low enough that his balls won’t roll under it. Heh, heh, heh. Sadly, it still doesn’t help when the damn balls roll under other furniture that is high enough to permit access… I guess he gets the last laugh.

Have one soon! Mine really hit the spot last night.

I hadn’t made any for a long time, either, but it was like riding a bike. The only hard thing about making it was learning to handle dough that is so wet. And yes! The best for sandwiches! Happy birthday to Fang, and may your wig shopping be rewarding on Friday.

red, your supper sounds yum, too! I might make a version of that to use up the leftover chicken in my fridge tonight.

Glad your temperatures are moderating at last, BooFae!

Good luck with the new Parkinson’s drug, knots.

taters, you have far more patience than I would in your situation. One thing I always appreciated about my husband was that he viewed home decor as my exclusive domain. I did always ask his views, but the response was invariably, “Whatever you think best, sweetheart.” He was happy to organize the shop, so that worked out well for us. I wish you equanimity as you navigate this minefield of decisions! I agree you need your own space, and yes to the desk!

52, my apologies. I did have that understanding, but my response was sloppy. I should have included the words, “willing potential” bone marrow donor.

FCM, I’m sorry FCD had an unhappy visit with the doc. It sounds like you are taking a very positive approach to a challenging situation. May it all go well for you both.

Glad you got your own medical issues dealt with, coppertone.

I do, and he’s a whiz. Last time I saw him a couple months ago, he offered to put a little app on my phone/computer that would enable me to easily transfer photos off the phone. I didn’t bother because I didn’t foresee it would be this much of a challenge. I keep meaning to call him, but he’ll probably want me to come see him at his office (understandable!), and I’d rather wait until I have more substantive work for him to do besides just this.

Meantime, I’ll just have to keep trying to get better pics of Ollie with my camera – which I do know how to transfer to my computer. It’ll happen, just probably not fast.

And anyway, honestly? Just picture any standard black and tan dachshund you’ve seen, and you’ve got Ollie. He’s adorable, but a pretty standard issue.

More gutter cleaning today. I’m sllloooowwwwlllyyy getting it done. The spa is drained, but refilling and balancing chemicals will keep for another day or so.

Ollie is barking at the Invisible Mole People. Again. I’m expecting a delivery today, but that’s always chancy, especially with the USPS, so the intermittent barking is driving me a little batty(ier).

The foxgloves are in full bloom, so pretty. I know they can be dangerous to livestock (digitalis), but we have fields of them here in some places and they are gorgeous.

Time to take Ollie for a ramble.

My car said 105 when I left work, drove through a very heavy, but brief storm on the way home, afterwards, the streets were actually steaming. Installed Coolio Sr yeah, shoe I’ve stolen the name. Coolio Jr went into the bedroom window yesterday.

Here’s Ms Peach being a doofus. She was in that position for at least 5 minutes.
Imgur

Me, too. Went “woooosh!” right over my head.

Sweatin’ like a ho’ in church today. Fer chrissakes I moved outta TX partly to escape the heat! Eff this “heat dome” or whatever you’re calling it. Go home, Satan, or at least quit squatting over us.

Pics puhleeeeze once you can?

That I can do pretty quick. I know I have some from past years that will serve.

“Rabbit rabbit” is something some people say at the start of each month. I think it’s a good luck thing.

If “rabbit” (or “rabbit, rabbit” or “rabbit, rabbit, rabbit” – I’ve heard all three) is the first thing you say aloud on the first day of the month, you’ll supposedly have good luck the rest of the month.

I’ve gotten to the point that I just send a card for all but the most informal of weddings. The whole industry is an excuse to double prices and the expectations of the couple make it a spendy affair. This from someone who has profited from the same industry in the past.

I’ve never tried mixing peaches with rhubarb, but strawberries or mulberries (not a lot of flavor on their own, but very sweet and offset the tartness of the rhubarb) are good blends.

Ya gotta love their goofiness!

Oh, shoe, honey! We’ve been in the nineties for several weeks now. When I got in my car to come home from Aldi, my car said it was 99 ferrets.

The supplemental groceries are home from Aldi and laundry done. Now that I’m not wearing heavy clothing to keep warm, it only takes one load for clothes. Now for chillage.
