^^^Lancia, what will you do with a box of nail clippers? Just curious.
To my surprise, three great bottles of Scotch. Some of my favorite pipe tobacco, some candy treats, a nice shirt, and a scarf hand-knitted by my sister.
Mr. Beetle and I have five children between us, all adults, and I couldn’t help but notice that only the girls thought to give gifts. The boys complacently recieved, with no inklings of reciprocation. ![]()
We had another gift exchange last night with some of the family and got a couple of gift sets, one with cups and cocoa, the other sausage and cheese.
I assume Son-of-a-wrek is only on the gift train because his wife does the shopping.
The one in our family who relishes the receiving but not the giving is the lil’wrekker. I have to make sure she remembers to do it and generally finance it. She’s a bit spoiled.
ETA I know, I know, I have created this monster.
I’m an assistant scoutmaster and one of the things we do with new scouts is have them put together a first aid kit. We usually buy bulk boxes of band-aids and gauze and whatnot and have them put together a list of needed supplies, then raid our mothership to put together their individual kits. What we don’t have they’re supposed to go get. Fingernail clippers and tweezers are usually at the top of the “we don’t have” list but it’s rare that they actually go get a pair. So a day or two into a hike they’ll need a pair for some reason or another and realize they’re screwed.
Anyway, a box of nail clippers in our main supply cabinet would be a godsend.
That’s what I got last year. Also laryngitis and a sinus infection. It was a rough winter.
This year I got a technical balaclava and a new router for our difficult wifi set up.
New windows in the house which is about a 6 thousand dollar gift and 3 new ceiling fans and a bottle of vodka.
The windows are hurricane impact resistant even though we will still use the shutters we should not have to.
Did no one get jewelry? Diamonds, gold? Engagement rings? The lil’wrekkers boyfriend gave her a star sapphire ring. Very pretty. I’m not sure of the meaning, and they wouldn’t talk. I think they are pretty serious about each other. They’ve been dating off and on for 3 years. The first year was an emotional rollercoaster. Break-ups, tears, reunions. Jealousy. The whole 9 yards. Things have settled into a pleasant routine. They’re at different colleges, now. I suspect he’s planning on transferring. I’m planning a big talk with her before she goes back to school. He’s of Palestinian descent and his family are Muslims. I have no issue with that, but his family is really against him dating her. I mean they really, really hate it. According to him. So, ol’ Beck, the helicopter mom, worries and frets.
Sigh. I hijacked my own thread. Sorry guys.
I got model kits, mostly from Starblazers 2099, and DVDs, mostly Santo flicks. A couple duplicates, so I’ll give those away to my buddies.
Books and movies, which is what I asked for.
This situation is going on in my family right now. In the sense that 2 young 20-somethings are engaged, but one family rejects the union due to ethnic objections of the prospective spouse. Very sad IMO. I’m sorry you are dealing with this.
^^^Thanks, Enola.
Rocketeer, could you please read your PM? Thanks.
They’ll make great husbands someday.
My favorite thing was these gnome slippers. I love gnomes.
Two youngest sons are into building their own gaming rigs (with their OWN money.) They both upgraded recently and took their old spare parts and built me a state-of-last-year’s-art PC. Wife requests Amazon lists from everybody. I got an IR thermometer for work as well as an analog VOM, flavored coffee packets, a display case for my NFL team autographed football, and a water bottle my daughter promised not to ever borrow and leave in her room for 3 weeks with hot chocolate in (it’s happened b4.) For Christmas I decorate the hibiscus plant on my desk with birds. I prefer pine cone style or more “real” looking birds. I got about 2 dozen new ones this year.
Wife and I got various flavored cheeses from the local corporate mega farm that dumps their waste in the field next to our house that flows down our driveway towards the river when the snow melts. It does fertilize some of our lawn along the way. Son and his girlfriend also gave us a gift card toThe Bar.
A light hoodie with a fox print on it, from my landlady. (Last year she got me a similar gift, but it was too small).
A blanket with foxes on it, from Mom. (I love foxes).
An Android box from my landlady’s son, which he’ll need to come over and set up sometime.
