The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo DVD redux (a wee bit spoilery)

Just finished watching this and was about to post asking about the homemade look of the disk. Luckily I searched and found the previous thread that assured me I’m not the only dumbass who fell for it. My other question is about the revenge rape scene. I was under the impression that it was quite graphic but the version I saw cuts right after she tases fat social worker guy. Don’t get me wrong; I’m perfectly fine with not having seen it. In fact, if I had my druthers I would have traded it for the shots of the mangled kitty; but I digress. Did I have a censored version? I don’t *think *it was a physical defect on the disk. The first time I watched it kind of stopped like it will when there’s a scratch or something, but when I played it again it was a smoove transition. Also, the scene when Lisbeth is at the police station and the cop is about to show her. . . pictures (?) and he asks if she’s eaten lately because what she’s about to see shouldn’t be viewed on a full stomach. Did they actually show whatever is was she looked at? Again, I can live without it but after all the buzz about how graphic this film is I was expecting something horrific and it just cut to the next scene.

Weird question, I know. Honestly, I’m not some perv looking for graphic violence. I’m just wondering if there’s something fishy going on with Netflix.

Since I’ve seen (and own) the original films, but haven’t seen the new US version, I’m going to have to assume you are talking about the remake, not the original. In the original Swedish film, the part of Nils Bjurman, Lisbeth’s new legal guardian, is played by Peter Andersson, who is tall and fairly thin.

Just a nitpick, but if you have a question about a film with multiple version, it’s going to be helpful if people know which version you are asking about.

It cuts there, but it cuts back when he wakes up to find himself tied up. Did you not see all that? It gets pretty intense and later parts in the movie would seem kind of confusing if you don’t know what happened there.

I didn’t see anything but the part I described. I even thought maybe it would be shown later as a flashback but the only other time I saw social worker guy was when she goes to him again for money and says next time she’ll point the taser at his head. So yeah, I was pretty confused regarding their scenario. Not even sure how integral it is to the gist of the movie except showing the nature of her character. I’m a little perplexed - how can only parts with one character be missing?- and kind of angry because I either got a defective disk or a censored version. Makes me wonder what else I missed.

Snowboarder Bo, sorry to be unclear. I thought people would know to which version I was referring because of the disk label issue. In any event, please feel free to fill in any blanks I missed in the remake.

She kicks a dildo into his anus and then tattoos him with something like “I am a rapist pig.” It’s pretty intense. Later she tells him to stop looking into tattoo removal.

Well, that explains the line about tattoo removal in the scene I mentioned. I was thinking “what, he’s some crusader for the outlawing of tattoos, or something?” I vaguely remembered reading about her tattooing him but based on their interaction and me not seeing the scene, I really wasn’t sure the revenge scene had occured yet. The more I think about it, the hissier I get. I didn’t like the movie enough to sit through it again but I would still have liked to have seen it in its entirety.

No problem; I wasn’t offended or anything. There have been a couple of releases of the original Swedish film (the film all by itself and also in a trilogy package), and I only one of of those. The trilogy package all have sort-of-matching discs, but for all I know the single film release is different.

Before posting this, I looked online and I see that the US version home release did in fact confuse a lot of people with it’s “home made disc” look.
