The GOP Super Tuesday Thread

He probably takes votes from Trump more than anyone else. He’s serving a very valuable purpose. He’s also running head of kasich nationally and has raised more money than anyone left in the race. Sure, he doesn’t have a path to the nomination, but he’s viable enough that he deserves to be there.

Way too flawed a candidate for that to be a sure thing. If it was Biden, yeah, slam dunk. But Hillary’s negatives are almost as high as Trump’s.

Yeah, I didn’t see the Minnesota results when I wrote this. If Rubio wins there, he’s not going anywhere soon.

So I guess the next big hope is to keep Trump from getting 50% of the delegates, then hoping for a contested convention?

Unfortunately, I think we are seeing the results of one of Trump’s actual skills - cutting deals. He’s already managed to pick up three head-scratching endorsements - by the time of the convention he may have the power brokers wrapped up.

To clarify, I meant the path to the nomination. However, I would not say she would beat him “easily” or even at all.

Carson has no path to the nomination, so he is not viable.

I suspect the Democrats are going to be as shocked as Republicans are when he starts peeling off votes from them. Trump’s appeal doesn’t apear to be ideological or partisan. He’s tapping into something that has little to do with traditional politics.

I love the dueling “you drop out!” “no, you drop out” comments from Cruz and Rubio.

Rubio is electable, Trump isn’t. So I look at it the other way – if anyone has a shot at blocking Rubio and handing the election to Hillary, it’s Trump. Go Trump!

Nah, Ben just spends most of the debate napping. He doesn’t really bother anyone.

Cruz: “Abolish the IRS!”

Yeah, that’ll help pay your salary, pal.

I agree.

His wife is a regional director for Goldman Sachs. They’ll manage without Cruz’s salary.

I think what you are getting at is different from what Sam is getting at.

You see him as a quasi-fascist demagogue rising on a racist, xenophobic, anti-Muslim sentiment whereas Sam just sees him as an outsider tapping in on the anti-establishment sentiment. (Sam please set me straight if I’m wrong.)

Not many returns in, but predicit is positive Rubio’s going to win, so it looks like that’s going to be Rubio’s first win.

And if he can win in MN, then by all rights he should win Florida.

Predicit also has not increased Trump’s likelihood of winning the nomination, but it has increased the likelihood of a contested convention, to 31%.

What’s the opposite of a cite?
Basically, trade deficit or no trade deficit, Mexico ain’t footing the bill.

Breaking News: Rubio believes Trump is a con artist.

A bit slow on the uptake, that one.

Watching Cruz’s victory speech was amazing. Like watching a guy who got turned down for a date bad mouth the guy she picked over him, it was soooooo much fun to watch. I want to see Rubio’s ‘victory’ speech too now.

The winner of GOP Super Tuesday? Hillary Clinton.

Trump is without question on track to end up with at least a plurality. Maybe an outright majority, maybe not. But it is now more than before assured to be an even longer, more bitter, more divisive, process on the way to the convention and possibly even there. Whatever factions lose will include large chunks who will hold grudges and rather not vote than vote for that other asshole, no matter how much they dislike Hillary.

Yea!

Did he really say that the EPA was an enemy of SMALL business?

Perhaps – but Trump’s chances of peeling off Dem votes are roughly the same as Sanders’ chances of peeling off Pub votes, and for roughly the same reasons. As has been discussed before in this forum, there is a considerable and strange overlap between their constituencies and a significant number who are wavering as to whether to vote for Trump or Sanders.
