The Grammys in Real Time.

Kelly Clarkson is funny.

Who is Rhianna singing with?

Alicia Keys with that fancypants faux hair. Stunning look. I am not a huge fan of hers, mostly because her infamous " New York, New York " song evokes a response that’s utterly without manners.

However, she has a glorious instrument and has a good touch on the piano. In a weird way I see her very much in the Billy Joel vein: She’ll be a solid piano songstress in 20 years.

So was that Katy Perry next to John Mayer when K. Clarkson was making her way onstage? Are they a thing now? Not that I’m paying much attention to the latest celebrity music pairings …

(I know this is off-topic, but I loved the SNL bar rumble a week ago with Maroon 5, Train, Jason Mraz and John Mayer … Bill Hader made a great John Mayer.)

Ah, so it’s Jay-Z who’s behind that funky track they’re using in the latest Dodge Dart commercials.

Well, Jay-Z with Kanye West, featuring Frank Ocean and The Dream. with special guests Frankie Yankovic and Ratt, with an extra-special solo by Petula Clark. Collaboration for the win!

Yes, Katy and John are an item. That Katy, she can sure pick 'em. So, does anyone know who was singing with Rhianna? Or, if not, a place I can look it up?

The Black Keys keyboard player: Hilarious !!!

I don’t think that was the Black Keys keyboard player. I think that was Dr. John. That song rocked, btw.

It did indeed rock- and holy moley. I know Dr. John was going to be on, I’ve never seen him quite so… Mardi Gras-y.

Mikky Ekko, who co-wrote and co-produced the song. According to the live blog on grammy.com, anyway.

Thanks, Unca!

He’s known for wearing Mardi Gras Indian outfits, going way back to his early days. Tonight’s costume looked like what he’s wearing on the cover of his latest album “Locked Down”, which was produced by Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys, and was my favorite album of 2012. It’s really great.

Pretty cool to see everybody in the audience singing along to “Locked Out Of Heaven.” And hey, there’s Sting!

Sting belongs up there. A lot of early Police as well as solo work shows his love of reggae. Pretty great band Ziggy had up there too !

I didn’t think I was going to love this broadcast and so far it’s pretty darned good.

An artist tribute should include more than 1/3 tributed artist songs.

Enough already with shots of Taylor Swift singing along.

#gettingold

Katy Perry looks like Elvira.

I was thinking how great Elvira was looking these days.

She’s wearing a dress made of Scotch-Lite™. VERY clever.

I couldn’t tell if Dr. John was performing or acting as the court stenographer.

Prince comes out to present Song of the Year … CBS cuts to a shot of John Mayer … who quickly starts applauding once he notices the camera is on him.

And Gotye wins a pretty strong category … Lumineers, Taylor Swift, fun., Kelly Clarkson, Black Keys … good stuff in there!
