The Great Freeze-Out (US weather)

Yes because of course the odd cold snap against a background of steadily increasing warmth clearly means global warming is a figment of his imagination.

Except it’s NOT steadily increasing in relation to CO2 and Al Gore is not a scientist. There might be a problem but we are not all doomed if we don’t invest in his get-rich-quick schemes. If there is a problem it needs to be dealt with scientifically and not by some worthless wealth transfer to poorer nations or carbon tax.

It’s not like we’re doing nothing about it but this sky-is-falling nonsense could easily prolong the world market depression if we tried to implement the programs he’s promoted. It’s just common sense to get the economy back on track so tax revenue can get back on the positive side. We’re borrowing money like it’s water going over Niagara Falls. Fuck him and the Lear Jet he rode in on.

It’s -42C/-43F with the windchill right now. It hurt to breathe when I was scraping the car off this morning. They say we’re getting to -17C today, but of course they never mention the windchill. Le sigh.

Does anyone know who we have to bribe to expedite my coworker’s license conversion? He came over from Asia and they haven’t gotten him his Canadian license yet so he has to walk.

And every time there’s an unusual cold snap, we get the usual influx of non-scientists and media extolling the absolute certainty that the earth isn’t warming.

I’ve no idea if the earth has been cooling for the past three years. It’s not really meaningful.

Definition of a jerk - someone who comes into a thread where people are complaining about weather they don’t like and starts up about global warming.

The chinook is finally here! 5ºC already! The streets are going to be one big, sloppy mess now! Yay!

Hey Cat Whisperer how deep are the snow banks in your area?

-6 C in Little Rock, Arkansas.

It’s warmer in Canada?

I hate you.

Is it cold in Arkansas?
Well, this guy threw boiling water off his dorm room balcony at Univ Arkansas and it froze before hitting the ground.

Now, that’s cold!

Schools here are closed through until next Thursday.

Check out second 12 of this clip to see how bad the weather is getting for some.

what many people do not know, once the temp gets below IIRC -20 F is that when you fall, bones can shatter.

I gotta see a cite for that. :dubious:

Wait a minute…define “can”

Unless you got one severe case of hypothermia or imminent frostbite I dont see how that can happen. Your bones are gonna be within a narrow temp range for any nominal living human no matter what the conditions are.

Well, ice does go from hard to very hard the colder it gets (I think) so that might make a little bit of difference if you fell on ice or well packed snow. On the other hand, if its cold as crap, I would think being dressed like the Michelin man would make falls a bit more survivable bone shattering wise, hard assed ice not withstanding.

We only got the cold for two days. At 5AM Wednesday morning, it was 42°F. By midnight it was down to -6°, a daily range of 48 degrees. Last night it got down to -16°, but it has just hit freezing, another 48 degree range. We might still gain another degree or two this afternoon.

It is forecast to be highs around 50° all week next week. Since that is ten degrees above normal, I’ll be sure to start a thread on global warming!

And at -40, if you turn your head, it will pop off, fall to the ground, and shatter, while the blood pulsing from your neck will instantly vaporize.

And if a bell rings, an angel gets its wings.

Here in Florida they say it might snow tonight or tomorrow. My friend is texting me at 4 a.m. and we’re supposed to get up and go outside and check for snow. Whether I’ll do that or not I don’t know, but if I see some I will be pretty excited.

In the words of that famous poet and lover, Nelson Muntz, HA Ha!

(The snowbanks aren’t very high here, except where they’ve piled snow up from road clearing.)

You are a dead man. Er, Canadian.

Today may end up being the first day here in many many decades where the temp never crawled above 39 degrees… Latest number I can find right now for my area has it at 36.

Mind turning on all your fans and pointing them east?

Actually your chinook is having its effect - it’s already up to -8C here and the forecast is single digits for the next 4 days which, for those who aren’t Cat Whisperer, is positively balmy for Saskatchewan in January.
