The Great SDMB Spring 2014 Postcard Exchange!

I even sent PMs to the two people who haven’t said they’ve received mine yet and I’ve not heard anything back. :’( I hope they haven’t been eaten by aliens or anything. Also, still nothing on the third one being sent to me either. I think I’ll sit out the next round.

I’m happy to send more cards if needed - feel free to send me additional names.

Thanks. By my count:

Phouka, Algher: if you did not receive my card yet, let me know and I will send another one.

Nope. I’ve gotten all three of mine and all three of mine have been received.

I sent three cards to each of my three people. So, jayrey, another two should still arrive and Lsura, one
more for your. The others went down under and I haven’t heard from there yet, but they should arrive sometime. I know one I got from there must have been shunted aside for a while at the post office.

I received the second of the three cards that Baker sent to me: A lovely picture of brilliant yellow sunflowers – it just screams HAPPY! Thanks, Baker! Hey, my kitchen is painted yellow, too, but my theme is chickens.

I just got Pai325’s AWESOME postcard of a painting of the Old Blue Boar Inn from Leicester, England! I’m a medieval Anglophile, so I am enjoying it immensely! The stamps have QE !! on them and they are red. Thanks Pai325! :):)

I’m happy you enjoyed it! I spent some time at Leicester Cathedral that day seeing where Richard would be buried and learning about their plans. His story has fascinated me since I was about 12, and I still feel (well, hope) that he didn’t kill his nephews.

I bought the postcard at the Guildhall where I went through their Ricardian exhibit.

I received a postcard today from Baker. It shows various emblems of Kansas, including the state bird, the western meadowlark, which also appears on one of the stamps. Very pretty.

I’ve been looking at the map of Kansas on the card. What’s the reason for the missing bit in the north-eastern corner from what would otherwise be a rectangle?

This morning I checked yesterday’s mail and there was card #3 from Baker. This one’s got some lovely buffalo on it - I bet the buffalo you can buy there is local, as opposed to what I can buy in the stores here!

The Missouri River, which makes up of the border of KS/MO

I was going to say it was the mice. They nibble away at everything!

Yesterday, I received the third of three cards from Baker, this one showing, along with the meadowlark and the buffalo, a lovely Kansas wheatfield blowing in the breeze. I had a friend from Kansas, who had moved to Oregon. She said that what she missed most were the wide, wide open fields. If Kansas looks like this postcard, I’d be tempted to move.

Still haven’t received my third card! Just updating, not complaining.

As Lsura has said, that nibbled looking bit is the Missouri river.

The border there is kind of strange. In the Kansas City area there are places where the river is the divide, and sometimes it’s the invisible border.

What a lot of people don’t know is that there are two cities named Kansas City. Kansas City, Missouri, and Kansas City, Kansas. It’s all one big lump, along with several other townships. Sometime you can walk across the street and you are in the other city and state. When my sister was a pharmacy intern at KC Med Center, and Kansas was still dry, all you had to do to get a drink was walk to the bar across the street in Missour.

I have heard that phouka has relieved my card. I’ve asked for them to post in the thread to confirm.

We have some of those border anomalies here too, but probably not as many as you’d have in the US. We have fewer states for a start, and the bulk of most states’ borders run through unpopulated areas.

Sorry I’m late posting. I moved over the weekend, and I don’t have internet at home.

I’ve gotten two of my cares - one from faithfool and the other from Anaglyph. Both are awesome.

Atomic Mama emailed me to say that her life has been crazy lately and she expects to mail her postcards soon.

Thank you, Iggy, for the two turtle postcards!
Exchanges complete!

This was fun!

Thanks,** Elendil’s Heir**, for organizing it all.
