Thanks for the updates. Still waiting on my third.
Received my first card from Nayna - a lovely shot of PA. Thank you so much! I’ve never been there so the card is doubly welcome: fresh visions
Received a card showing the stage of the American Shakespeare Center from Raventhief yesterday. Very cool, and quite appropriate since I wrote my MA thesis on Shakespeare
thanks!
I’ve just got home and discovered a card in the post from jayrey. It’s a lovely view of the State Capitol in Salem. Is that a person on the top, or an angel?
We don’t have state capitols here. The closest equivalent would be the NSW state Parliament House. It’s not very impressive.
I’m beginning to wonder what’s become of the third card that I sent. All three went off more than a fortnight ago. Two arrived within a week; the third seems to have taken the longer, scenic route.
It’s a person, called the Gold Pioneer. The statue is actually covered in gold leaf. Very beautiful on a spring day in the sun. The building I work in is just a half a block away and equally beautiful (no gold pioneer, tho’) but no one seems to be interested in taking nice photos of us. <sigh>
Many apologies but I’ve been a bit under the weather. I just today sent out my postcards.
Stopping by the post office I saw I already received two. One from Nayna is a classic image from a Pittsburgh Steel Mill. The other from Grrlbrarian is a large letter card with various images framed by the letter of PEORIA.
And I got two from Silenus: one vintage postcard of a 60s hotel in Tijuana, and a super glitzy “LAS VEGAS” card; the happiest places on Earth for Krusty and Silenus, respectively.
Thanks!
Both specifically selected for the next time I got you in the exchange. Glad they got there together.
Here’s a a view of NSW Parliament House. Not nearly so striking.
I remember being surprised it was so modest.
NSW was the original colony and its parliament building was the first to be built, at a time when things were still fairly rudimentary. The main building of the original Legislative Council was a pre-fab, shipped out from the UK and assembled in Sydney.
The Victorian state parliament building, built twenty or so years later on the proceeds of gold rush wealth, provides a stark contrast.
I’ve gotten two out of three postcards, and sadly, have only heard that one person has gotten theirs.
So, trying again… phouka? Algher? Anything?
Today I received a beautiful card of Colorado (breathtaking landscape!) from Cheez_Whia and a placeholer card from Pai 325. Apparently I will get another card in a couple of days.
Thank you very much both of you!
Yay!
Iggy, I’m glad you got my “cool” postcard of Pittsburgh, and I hope you didn’t have to pay the surplus postage! I assumed it would be tossed because I’d used domestic postage, and sent another, “less-cool” postcard, which you should be receiving soon!
Clare de Loone, yesterday I received your tall ship postcard - I hope you have a lovely tourist season there! I have to admit, though, that I’m confused by your reference to Harry Potter. I don’t post much, and I’ve searched for a clue, but I don’t know when I’ve mentioned that I’m a fan! I definitely am, though, and so is my daughter … so much so that I’ve just made reservations to return to Orlando this year as a Junior High graduation and “congratulations on getting Distinguished Honors every marking period” present!
So, I’ve received two postcards, and I’m waiting for my third. I’m a little glad for the delay - it’s fun to check the mail every day and have a chance of receiving something other than a utility bill!
Maybe not as imposing, but lovely nonetheless. I like the color and beautiful iron fence.
Still waiting on my third.
:: taps foot ::
I don’t think I have gotten my third either.
Nayna,
I thought you mentioned your dog was named Muggle…perhaps I misread.
Have a pleasant time in Florida! Was just in Orlando over Xmas visiting family.
Clare de Loone, you’re right, his name *is *Muggle! I just didn’t remember writing that. It’s like you picked up on a little clue!
My daughter named him, and it’s a perfect fit. Adorable even when people don’t get the reference.
