Post card from the other Las Vegas (didn’t know there was one in New Mexico) and the better known Carlsbad Caverns. Of the two, I would prefer to visit the Plaza Hotel in Las Vegas. I have read Blind Descent by Nevada Barr, which is set in Lechuguilla Cave, and I am quite happy to let others do the caving.
Thanks for the cards!
In other news, it seems that Swiss mail is slower than German mail. How embarrassing for the Swiss Post.
Bonus cards!!!
JaneDoe42 sent me two (!) bonus cards! One with a view of the Grand Canyon and a H.P. Lovecraft one. I admit I have never read Lovecraft, he’s still on my list and really an absolute must read!
Oh ho! A card from @BippityBoppityBoo showed up today. It’s a card from the University print maker’s studios that may or may not be a depiction of pomegranate seeds in parade formation(with glitter!). Thanks!
Hurray, all of the cards I mailed have been delivered. The post office did a much better job than they did for the Secret Santa last year. I was so stressed out by the time my person finally got her package.
@The_Butterfly_s_Ghost HP Lovecraft is hard reading, like most archaic books and stories, but well worth it. Once you have slogged through them, you will start seeing his influence in many horror books and movies.
Many very influential authors have written at least one HPL tribute story and its fun to recognize one as you come across it. Not wanting to spoiler it, I will finish by saying you won’t be reading shock and slash horror. My favorite movie adaption of The Colour Out Of Space is (I believe) Finnish and is both black and white and silent.
Received my last two postcards in the mail today!
The first, from BippityBoppityBoo, is orange, sparkly and not “Pomegranates On Parade”.
The second one, from EinsteinsHund, is a cartoon by Loviot (aka Vicco von Bülow), featuring a bunch of people, and a pug, staring into a box.
We are on a roll! Underneath a stack of the usual mail stuff is another postcard. This one from @Elendil_s_Heir featuring a Guardian of the Traffic from the Hope Memorial Bridge. A perspective on Cleveland which was totally new to me.
I received a postcard today from @ToadBuddy all the way from Ontario, showing pictures of all four seasons, a Mountie, and an enormous inukshuk. Well, it looks enormous, but it is silhouetted against the sunset/rise and so it could be a close-up from a low angle of a small inukshuk. I like thinking it is enormous. Maybe 2 stories! Thanks, ToadBuddy!
Received the “A” card today from @Die_Capacitrix, an old bridge over what I’m guessing is Lake Luzern? It must have crossed paths somewhere with the second card mailed.
@JaneDoe42 - I received my copy of “At the mountains of madness” yesterday and bumped it up to first place on my to-read pile. @EinsteinsHund loves Lovecraft and has tried to get me to read him a couple of times already, so he is excited I’m finally getting started! (Me, I’m a Pratchett fangirl through and through and have EinsteinsHund started on him, so it’s about time I started reading one of his faves as well. )
Excellent choice for your first “exposure”. I would suggest the Call of Cluthlu next. This is my favorite song, but the HPLHS’s Christmas Carols are also really fun.
