The Great Summer 2022 Doper Postcard Exchange!

You’re welcome! I was worried the USPS might splinter it.

Took me a lot of searching to find any. Now theyre in the mail! woot

I received my third postcard yesterday. It was from @Die_Capacitrix and was what looked like a tram station scene in Zurich. Thanks to all for the cards!

Today, I received my third postcard, a “Mr. Peanut” from Suffolk, Virginia. Thanks, @ekedolphin . I hope my third card also reached its destination, as I sent it out at the same time as the other two.

My set of cards is complete. Got a card from @Elendil_s_Heir with a portrait of George Washington at the Battle of Princeton. Many thanks!

Got a beautiful, extra long card from Chad Sudan. Its Yosemite national park. Loved the funny comment about the stamp!:+1:

I’m glad you liked it. I haven’t seen yours yet, but I anticipate it with bated breath.

Postcard today! From @peedin showing the Chicago skyline. Looks very tall.

@blondebear I must thank you over and over again for the “dead fish” postcard. I tell my mother the story behind it every couple of days and she laughs every time. I love hearing her laugh and treasure each time like it could be the last.

Aww…

From my notes, it appears that everyone has now sent their cards, and everyone has received at least one card but for one Doper, whom I will PM.

@JaneDoe42–glad that card provided a little extra joy to you and your mom. I picked it out of 7 or 8 other “dead fish”-related cards…so I have some in reserve in case I get your name for the next exchange

Curious, @blondebear, how much space does your postcard collection take up? Is it a drawer, or a box, or a room, or…?

I got a postcard of BigFoot today from @SuntanLotion. I’ve never owned a picture of BigFoot before. Thanks, SuntanLotion!

Hmmm…it’s a little hard to say since I don’t have them all in one place. As you suggest, they’re scattered around in various boxes, drawers, books and binders. I suppose if I consolidated them all together they would fill the equivalent of 8 or 9 shoe box-sized containers plus a couple bigger boxes for larger-format cards. (This includes postcards, greeting cards, music and movie promo cards, etc)

The Back of Beyond is heard from! Got 2 cards from penultima_thule depicting several of the “DANGEROUS MAMMALS, REPTILES, AMPHIBIANS, BIRDS, FISH, JELLYFISH, INSECTS, SPIDERS, CRUSTACEANS, GRASSES, TREES, MOSSES, AND LICHENS OF TERROR INCOGNITA, VOLUME 29C, PART THREE.”

Kewl! Thanks.

I just got the card from @Anaglyph , a holographic card showing a melting glacier from 1900 to 2004.

“Where have all our glaciers gone,
long time passing?
Where have all our glaciers gone,
long time ago?
Where have all our glaciers gone?
They’ve all melted in the sun!
Oh, when will we ever learn?
Oh, when will we ever learn?”

Loved it, and now I have all three cards. I think @Die_Capacitrix is still awaiting mine.

I received an envelope of cards today from @penultima_thule, both first-day-off-issue stamp postcards, one of an Australian Brush Turkey and one of a Leafy Seadragon. I’ve actually seen a Leafy Seadragon in person at the Monterey Bay Aquarium! (… which gives me an idea :bulb: for postcards for the next exchange…) Thanks PT!

If you sent a postcard to me, I promise to let you know I got it just as soon as I get back home and open up my mailbox! That should be at the end of August.

Today I got three – count 'em, three – postcards in my mailbox! Thank you, @Teuton, for the lovely views. Shall I assume that is a nun on the bicycle in Brittany? Or is it a woman smuggling a roll of paper towels on her head? And I wonder about that Compuserve address for the monkey sanctuary. How long ago was that set up?

I’m not sure if that particular example is a nun - those caps are called bigouden and are worn by all ladies of the area on formal occasions.
The Monkey Sanctuary has been going since 1964, it’s probably just an old postcard!
