The Greatest 80s Cartoon That Never Existed

Space Stallions

That was pitch perfect. For a moment during that keytar solo, Reagan was somehow still president, the space shuttle was high tech, and the world’s greatest food was PB&J.

Nice to see Hulk Hogan is still getting work.

Although I have to disagree - this is the greatest 80s cartoon that never existed (also has some keytar action, natch). Space Stallions’ animation is too slick.

The animation was too good. The characters moved too much.

Were other 80s cartoon that, um, gay?

It was the Eighties, the decade that brought you Boy George, and when men wore hot pink unironically.

Everything was that gay.

True but…this is exactly what my kids are going to think the 80’s looked like. Much like today, we accept any long straight hair on actress in character as “70s”, even though lots of them look more like the Jennifer Aniston 'do circa 1994.

Well sure the animation is “too good.” It’s a tribute, not a 1:1 imitation. Also, this was made by film students, so the quality probably has to be there for the grade. Finally, smooth animation like that did exist.

Yeah, I don’t get why people think “metrosexual” is a recent concept - obsessively vain yet conformist men have always been around, it’s just that in the 1980s the end result was slightly different.

Exactly what I was going to say. The static, low res animation style is essential to any homage.

It reminded me more of a Ralph Bakshi theatrical endeavor.

It did lack a “Snarf” character which I think every 80s adventure toon had, otherwise it was pretty close.

BY Snarf character, I take it you mean a cute and annoying character that everyone hates, right? Seems to me that the flying TV set fills that role.

Geez, what’s with all the criticism of some silly horse cartoon? Seriously, it’s just nag nag nag…

Hay! Take it easy.

Oh yeah— that makes sense. It needed to be in the characters introductions then because I totally forgot about the flying tv by the end.
