The greatest line from any movie or TV

assuming TV is ok, a fave from Futurama:

Fry: When will that be?
Glermo*: Soon enough.
Fry: That’s not soon enough!

To this day I want to say “that’s not soon enough!” any time I hear someone use the phrase “soon enough”…

*I was sure Professor Farnsworth said this, but I just googled it to make sure and apparently it’s this one-shot character. oh well.

I blame society.

For Futurama?

Macreedy: You’re not only wrong. You’re wrong at the top of your voice.

Bad Day at Black Rock

That was an outstanding movie, and incredible performance from Tracy. Many excellent lines as well.

PINHEAD: . . . But trick us again, and your suffering will be legendary even in Hell!

Lots of great lines in this thread. I’ve been mulling over this one for a while, torn between some already mentioned, among others, but my fave (for right now, at least) is from The Wizard of Oz:
“Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.”

LOL

No, that’s my own personal “greatest line from any movie or TV”.

The full line is “I know a life of crime led me to this sorry fate, and yet, I blame society… society made me what I am.”

But I usually just shorten it to “I blame society”. It’s my own version of “that’s what she said”, kinda.

From Silverado:

Mal Johnson: Now, I don’t wanna kill you, and you don’t wanna be dead.

“Okay.” zzzip “Let’s be bad guys.”

Bruce Lee, Enter the Dragon. “You have offended my family, and you have offended the Shaolin Temple.”

“You elected?”

“No. Got nominated real good, though.”

Nitpick: “Shiny.” Not “Okay.”

Also, this one (couldn’t find video):
[Kirk and party have commandeered Kruge’s Bird of Prey]
Kirk: [to Maltz] You! Help us or die!
Maltz: I do not deserve to live!
Kirk: Fine. I’ll kill you later!
[later, once safely in Warp Speed]
Kirk: Take care of the prisoner.
Maltz: Wait! You said you would kill me!
Kirk: I lied!

Watch it.

OK, OK, it’s not a single line, but it’s great…

suck my fat one you cheap dimestore hood. Gordie in Stand By Me

I think it’s interesting that some Dopers have trouble with the word “one”. The idea was to pick THE best line so yes, you do have to make a hard life choice.

From The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly:
[Tuco is in a bubble bath. The One Armed Man enters the room]
One-Armed Man: I’ve been looking for you for eight months. Whenever I should have had a gun in my right hand, I thought of you. Now I find you in exactly the position that suits me. I had lots of time to learn to shoot with my left.
[Tuco kills him with the gun he has hidden in the foam]
Tuco: When you have a chance to shoot, shoot. Don’t talk.

From Die Hard
[McClane is scooting along on his back, trying to stay underneath a conference table while, above him, a terrorist is stomping along atop the conference table trying to shoot him through the wood. Eventually, McClain runs out of table…]

Marco: You are done now. Where you going, pal? Soon there will be no more table.
[pulls out his clip and jams a fresh one in. Then he misquotes Tuco from The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly]
Next time you have a chance to kill someone, don’t hesitate.

McClane: [fires upwards several times through the table, riddling Marco with bullets. Marco drops dead on the table with bullets and wood splinters in him]
Thanks for the advice, “pal”!

You’re going the wrong way, you’re going to kill someone…

If you’re a fan of Breaking Bad (who isn’t?), then you’ll love this line delivery by Giancarlo Esposito.
