the line that defined the movie

OK, since this seems to be movie lines week on the SDMB…

We’ve covered the best lines, we’ve covered the worst lines, now,

What is the line that summed up the whole movie for you?

For me it was-

The Star Wars Trilogy “I have a bad feeling about this.” probably the most overused line in motion picture history.

Network the expression on Faye Dunaway’s face after being told “We are talking about putting a patently irresponsible man on national television!”

Carnosaur “Peace, green brother.” Delivered by a man who was seconds away from being eaten by a large, carnivorous lizard…

The Outlaw Josey Wales " We thought about what these words meant, ‘endeavor to persevere.’ When we had thought about it long enough, we declared war on the Union."

Videodrome “It always helps to take the casette out.” Truer words were never spoken.

The Fugitive “I have five very unhappy dead people down here.”

Anybody else want to throw in?

“We’re on a mission from God.”–Blues Brothers

“You’re gonna need a bigger boat.”–Jaws

“Open the pod bay doors HAL”

2001

“Houston, we have a problem.”–Apollo 13

“Lexie, look out for the flowers!”

I leave guessing the movie as an exercise for the reader.

This exchange sums up a movie, a war, and a whole period of American history.

Bridge assault in Apocalypse Now:

Capt Willard: “Who’s in charge here, son?”

Soldier: “Man, ain’t you???”

Gattaca: “I never felt farther from my goal than when I was right next to it.” I may have gotten the wording wrong, but that’s close enough.

Ripley to the alien queen, in Aliens:
“Get away from her, you BITCH!”
The whole series was about a woman finding empowerment. It comes down to the quintessential chickfight.

Robert Duvall’s character in Apocalypse Now:
“I love the smell of napalm in the morning. It smells like… victory.”
Strange values.

In the same movie:
“Terminate with extreme prejudice.”
The ultimate in doublespeak.

Ferris Bueller:
“How can I be expected to go to school on a day like this?”
and
“Life moves pretty fast. If you’re not paying attention, you might miss it.”
Words to live by.

Orgazmo: “I’m a bad, bad Mormon.”

Wargames:

“I wish I didn’t know about any of this. I wish I were just like everyone else, and tomorrow it would just be over. There wouldn’t be time to be sorry.”

“Go Ahead, Make My Day”

Bunny: I’ll suck your dick for a thousand dollars

The Dude: I’ll go find a cash machine

"I want to learn the ways of The Force and become a Jedi like my father.

We’ll always have Paris

You call THAT a knife?

I see dead people

Shall we shag now, or shall we shag later?

Shit sandwich!

Q: How’d you like it if your balls were between your ears?

A: I could hear myself coming.

Deep Throat

“Welly, welly, welly, welly, welly, welly, well.”

Clockwork Orange

I’ll never let go Jack.

(immediately followed by her dropping him into the water)

“Excuse me while I whip this out.”

Blazing Saddles

“Soylent green is made of people! You’ve got to tell them! Soylent green is people!”

“Charlie Don’t Surf” Apocalypse Now

“Your Ton-Ton will freeze before you reach the first marker.”

“Then I will see you in Hell.”- Empire Strikes Back (just the whole spirit of the Rebellion)

“Mesa Jar Jar Binks”- Star Wars Phantom Menace (right there I knew I was in trouble)

“We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high power blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…and also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of Budweiser, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls.” “The only thing that worried me was the ether.” “There is nothing in the world more helpless and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge.” “And I knew we would get into that rotten stuff soon enough!” -Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (just the absurdity of the drug use and abuse in this movie was amazing)
