Well, today is my birthday and I never work on my birthday - so that is good.
SO and I might hit a movie, go out to dinner and perhaps drop a few coins in a slot machine, but that is about the extent of it.
Got some nice cards, emails and calls from family and friends.
So while there are some other less pleasant things floating around my universe, TODAY is an excellent day so far!
(Oh, and I am NOT fishing for Happy Birthday wishes…not a big fan of the celebration side of it…just happy for the quiet day with SO and not having to go to work! So, carry on with your own good happy news!)
I’ve been trying to figure out how to put a happy face on my day, and I have come up with this single silver lining: In a couple hours, consumption of cat food and litter in our house will go down by 50%. Poor little man is miserable, and I think maybe he’s just trucking on to make me feel better.
Stately Manor has been scrubbed, the wild tomato jungle has been pruned and shoved into a semblance of shape for the next week, and the fallen maters have been placed on a brick with the orange ones to ripen a bit. Since they’re all destined for sauce I don’t care if I have fancy vine-ripened tomatoes or not. Brick-ripened’s good enough for me.
I even mopped the floors!
Complicated Friend is giving me back all the music (plus some) that I accidentally deleted several years ago during the first Great Computer Malfunction. It’s…quite a lot of music. Oh well, I enjoy going through all the music on my computer and sorting it out. It’s always music time in the Stately Manor! Right now it’s Hall & Oates time.
Ummmmmm… I know this is the happy, happy MMP but I just got off a conference call and all I can say is…
WELL, JUST DAAAAAAYYYYYUUUUUUMMMMMM!!!
I’ve been kinda hmmmm the past three irk days because all of a sudden I can’t get hold of TPTB in our state orifice and have been gettin’, “we’ll have them call you” responses from folks answerin’ the phone. Well, this was a conference call from our national office which are rare things indeed and we (my cohort coordinator type colleagues and I) have been informed that our state director and our state manager are no more since last Thursday. Hence the above statement. Somebody will be replacin’ them (note a somebody, not somebodies) at some point in time. Until then we report to somebody at the national orifice. This is all I know.
Sorry to down the happy, happy MMP but I’m just sorta numb right now. I will say this, one person I am sad to see go, the other person well, let’s just say, I’m not so sad, borderin’ on downright estatic. Still makes me wonder if I shouldn’t mayhaps dust off ye olde resume and be puttin’ out some feelers. Never hurts, I reckon.
I promise to go back and read what I’ve missed later. Just had to post this.
Ok, time to finish up some irk stuff so’s I can head out.
Mercifully, no furloughs in my business, and they’re anxiously awaiting my return. Just hope I remember how to do everything once I’m back. One thing my employer does well is taking care of its people - no worries that I’ll have a job to go back to, and thanks to my years of service, I get 100% pay coverage on short term disability.
Stark contrast to DH’s employer, who gave no leave or payroll continuity while he was recovering from cancer, and we’re still trying to recover financially from that. At least his latest PET scan came back clear. Just a couple small external spots that should wither away on their own, or if needed, they can be nipped off in the office with little more than “this may sting a bit”
Oh, I forgot to share - as long as we’re squeeing about happy stuff - that one of The Other Shoe’s aunts gave him/us two tickets to an upcoming Rodrigo y Gabriela performance this weekend. I’m soooo looking forward to it!
Deutsche Mark (or D-Marks) was the German currency prior to the Euro. I thought about Retired Currency but think that may be to long so I feel we should go with GerCurr.
What say you, Kopek?
I’m home at last!! The crabbers finally showed up around 2:30 and I was on my way 15 minutes after. And since it was 2 crabbers, even tho they were on one boat, I get to report 2 monitorings and I get paid for 2. Yay!
On the way back, I got to run into the store and get a few groceries, including ice cream, so tomorrow I can make 'nanner muffins. No, the ice cream doesn’t go into the muffins - it goes into ME!!
Small update: We’re trying to sort things out with my mother. Maybe things will work out. I guess that, in the end, it’s her who’s fucking up her own life. The problem is, she sometimes manages to fuck up other people’s lives in the process.
So, umm, good news. At least it’s not raining today. I’m having some fun on tumblr. And the tech guy is back at work now. Now I don’t have to worry if I screw up the technological devices at work.
