The Harry Potter movie poster

Did anyone else think that the owl’s wing draped over Harry’s head made it look like he was wearing a Yarmulke? The first several times I saw the poster I remember thinking to myself “I never knew HP was Jewish ”.

The only reason I put this here instead of MPSIMS is because I think it was a bad artistic choice and I’d like to hear what some others think about it. Couldn’t they have put that owl somewhere else? Aren’t you supposed to avoid sticking things through people’s heads in pictures/paintings?

Heh…I’m thinking a scene exactly like that is in the TV ads for the movie, too, because I remember thinking “Harry Potter’s Jewish?” and being very confused.

;j Did anyone else think the poster looked shockingly similar to the Star Wars Episode I poster?

Here is a link to the poster that I suspect is being discussed here, provided for those who can’t recall seeing it at the theater.

Personally I think it’s better than the official final poster being used in the UK, although not as visually interesting as one of the American teaser posters.

I don’t really see the yarmulke effect that the OP describes. Neither do I see a shocking similarity between this poster and the Star Wars Episode I poster. At least not the Ep. I poster that I recall. Maybe pezwookie can show me which poster he/she is thinking of?

Well, you probably aren’t going to see it when it’s fullscreen 18 inches from your face. Go to the movie theatre and stand about 15-20 feet away. I swear I thought it was a yarmulke for such a long time…And even if I’m the only wingnut that sees a yarmulke, like I said in the OP, aren’t you supposed to avoid sticking things through peoples heads anyway?

And speaking of such, who the heck is that blonde girl in the poster? She sure doesn’t look like Hermione!
