The Hearthstone Thread

You don’t need card draw – you want to win quickly. If the game isn’t over by the end of turn 8 your chances diminish significantly.

With a face hunter you almost always hit face unless you have to clear a taunt or can make a really good trade or face imminent death on the next turn. Always check to see if you have lethal; it’s surprising how often you can burst them down by turn six or seven.

One more thing about card draw and how to play face hunter:

You don’t need card draw also because you use your Hero Power a lot. Starting on turn 4 or 5 you use HP almost every turn; rather than playing two 2drops or a 2drop and a 3drop, you play only one minion and hit face with hero power.

For improving your arena game I do recommend using Heartharena for a few games. It’s somewhat of a pain to do for each draft but it’s spot on the majority of the time.

If you watch streamers. Ratsmah specializes in infinite arena and he is very good about explaining his thought process in detail. He doesn’t get many viewers but his stream in top notch.

I’ve finally reached infinite since last month, but it took me about 9 months of playing to be able to do so. They should have an option for free arenas without rewards so that new players could get more practice at it.

Got my third legendary, Cenarius. Meh. I don’t really have any other cards that make a druid deck viable. What’s Cenarius good at? Some sort of turn 9 token strategy?

You guys may find this hard to believe, but I actually played a match today in which we made it to turn 7 and Dr. Boom wasn’t played against me. I know. I’m going to tell my grandkids about it.

Cenarius is kind of good. Definitely goes in a combo druid deck, gives you instant board presence and threatens lethal with force savage. A 5/8 is no slouch either. Actually, the only expensive essential part of a combo deck is force of nature, and you can get away with just one of them. For card draw, just run nourish instead of Ancient of Lore, and you can also run things like echoing ooze, haunted creeper, violet teacher for a kind of token/combo hybrid. Shades also.

Something like this Druid Decks for Murder at Castle Nathria - Hearthstone - Icy Veins or Druid Decks for Murder at Castle Nathria - Hearthstone - Icy Veins

Basically, the druid staples (innervate, swipe, KOTG, DOTC, Wrath for cycle and tokens, Wild Growth (dubious), POTW (optional but works very well with tokens)), token generators (Violet Teacher, Echoing Ooze, Haunted Creeper), Card draw (Nourish, Lore if you have it, Loot Hoarder, Azure Drake), and the combo (as many force/savage as you like).

I sometimes run a budget token druid when I get a druid daily, and that’s the kind of thing I threw together. Works reasonably well, but you have to be aware of getting max value from your violet teachers and POTW, and when to extend the board and when to play around board clears.

I was about to bag my 6th arena win when my opponent kind of desperately crushed his board into mine. But I had the cards to win next turn if he had no more taunt units. And I retained a couple of low health but high value units on the board, his entire board was wiped clearing out what he could on my board. His last move to was to hit my sea giant with his sneed’s. I’ll let you guess what Sneed’s became.

Uh oh. Does it rhyme with “Hell Chews Odd?”

You get a cookie. Based on the game situation it was pretty much the only one he could’ve pulled to win, and I think there are like 40ish legendaries? So 1/40 chance.

I’d like a sneed’s. I know random elements like that aren’t liked that much in the competitive community due to their inconsistency, but they’re fun. My mech mage deck - I don’t care about the mechs. I play it so I can use some unstable portals.

I did add Kel Thuzad to my mech mage deck. It does seem to give me some finishing power, since I often end up on turn 8 with a few units on the board but running out of steam due to lack of card draw. It can synergize well with echo of medivh too. In lieu of a real finisher, it has upped my win percentage noticibly, since my deck would frequently peter out.

I believe it also rhymes with “Gizzard is full of talentless hacks who think RNG should single-handedly decide games and not merely be a way to introduce a bit of fog of war.”

How the fuck does someone get not one, but two different combos of Dark Whispers, Soul of the Forest, and Savage Roar in the fucking Arena? I can’t build one goddamn combo (I can all but guarantee that if I take a Auchenai Soulpriest in round 5, I won’t see a Circle of Healing for the next 75 options) let alone get even the chance to put them together in a game. Twice.

I was watching Ratsmah’s stream last week and his opponent had Dr. Boom, Malygos, Sneeds and Alexstraza in one Arena deck. He got through the Sneeds/Myrmidon’s head, Boom and Malygos and had his opponent at 2 hp for the win when the Alex came down.

How is that possible? I might get one legendary every 10 games in Arena and I’ve never gotten two, let alone 4.

Yeah, I just saw that on Trolden’s Youtube channel. Link. The Alexstraza came from an Unstable Portal, but still.

I would pay a whole dollar for a new “well paid” emote I could use against wallet warriors. By mid-game, I had 6 hp and he had 22 hp with 17 armor, but I was able to hold my own for the next 9-12 rounds, gradually wearing him down, until he was down to one card. I had an annoy-o-tron and a few other cards on the board at that point so it was actually totally viable that I was finally going to fatigue him to death. His last card? A ragnaros which I barely could’ve killed except it instantly shot and killed my hero out of 4 targets.

Fun play of the match: I had a board of mechwarper, mechwarper, micro machine, annoy-o-tron and snow chugger. Cast echo of medievh, and was able to redeploy all 5 cards on the same turn for free.

Er, didn’t deploy the annoy-o-tron until after that, since the board was full. So 4 for free.

Just had the weirdest ending to an arena match. He has 6 health. I have 3. I have a 4/4 unit and a 2/3 unit. No taunts. He has a 4/4 unit and a 3/2 unit. We’re both topdecking. It’s his turn. I almost concede, but whatever, I’ll let him get his last hit.

He crashes his 4/4 into my 4/4, and his 3/2 into my 2/3 (empty board now), and then fireblasts me to 2 hp. I drop a fen creeper. He plays mirror image. Fireblasts me down to 1hp. I’m now mildly annoyed that he’s going to win anyway despite his inexplicable error. I draw a darkscale healer. Woo! Giving me just enough health to survive another couple of rounds. He plays some minor unit that can’t get through my fen, I kill his mirror images and then kill him next turn. Quite bizarre.

did you ever make that legendary SenorBeef? i’m still sitting on my dust. i have only ever opened 2 legendaries (not including Naxx) and i’m wary about using it.

So the good thing about playing budget Priest is that you get to play Dr. Boom anyway.

My 19 day old daughter and Chinese New Year have conspired to not allow me to play any Hearthstone lately, so I only just managed to get in a few more games today, ending at rank 11 again. Currently at 12 wins 9 losses, with an overall winrate of 57%. Not too bad, but could be better. My favourite game today was where I thoughtstole his Al-akair, SW: Deathed his Neptulon, and MCed his Dr. Boom for the win. Mm mmm good.

Do I have to start throwing the Acidic Swamp Ooze back in my deck to deal with the Oil Rogue?

Woo, I got my 4th legendary. Lord Jaraxxus, which is good. Except I don’t have any of the components for a handlock deck at all, and he can’t really work at all in a zoo deck, can he? What sort of deck that doesn’t require multiple epics like handlock could work for Jaraxxus?

I’m glad I’m finally getting some legendaries after only having leeroy for my first 100+ unpackings, but they’ve all been class specific ones, reducing their utility.

Edit: Wait, holy shit, it’s a GOLDEN Jaraxxus. I could disenchant it and make rag. Is there any reason not to disenchant a gold card? It’s just cosmetics/rarity, right?
