I’m beginning to lose my interest in Hearthstone. The tavern brawls were keeping things fresh, but now even those are getting old.
It’s a damned shame, but at least I still have HotS.

I managed to win on my first brawl … but I got the ‘Win 5 Brawls’ off of my quest re-roll:smack:.
What should they do with obsolete cards? I mean cards for which there’s a similar card that’s just flat out better? King’s Elekk is just flatout better than Blood Raptor in every way for instance. Seems like they should change/remove the old ones. But then I guess that might butthurt people who have the old one but not the new. So I guess just leaving it uselessly in makes some sense, but then I get really irritated in arena when I have a choice between shitty old cards.
Taking Bloodfen Raptor out of the game altogether would make cards like Webspinner better: something they may not want to do.
King’s Elekk is not “strictly better” than Bloodfin Raptor - King’s Elekk is a class card and so cannot be played in Beast Druid, for example. And Bloodfin Raptor isn’t a terrible card in its own right. The cards that are flat out terrible like Magma Rager and Booty Bay Bodyguard should be buffed, not just replaced with newer, more powerful cards.
Unpacked a legendary. Prophet Velen, which I already had. Got me up to 1600 dust, though. What’s the best neutral new legendary?
Edit: Or class based, I suppose. The priest legendary seems pretty awesome, so maybe I"ll craft that and start playing priest. Is priest any better in the grand tournament?
There’s a few Dragon Priest decks that seem to be working. I don’t have the key cards for any of them so I haven’t tried it, but it seems popular around rank 13-11 (where I’ve been for the last several days).
out of the new neutral legendaries, Justicar Trueheart seems like a no-brainer. what are the downsides to crafting this, even when compared to the entire selection (new and old)? a permanent 4 armour per turn is crazy. even if it’s not viable, its different effects means it’ll still be fun across different decks.
Just got done playing some Hearthstone. Love this game. I have a majority of the cards and I really enjoy the expansions. Glad this thread is here. Happy to see so many players on this site.
Priest is definitely a better class than it was before TGT… but is it a top tier class now? I don’t think so.
Anyway, I’ve been running a deck I made myself: the Injured Priest. As the name suggests, it’s basically the injured cards (Injured Kvaldir and Injured Blademaster) and cards that support them. It’s doing ok so far, I’m at rank 12 and still win streaking, but I don’t think it has enough legs to be truly top tier. It’s just a solid midrange/tempo deck. See if you like it.
I’ve been trying SO HARD to make Beneath the Grounds and Burgle work, and it’s just not working. Rogue is just so tempo based that it can’t be value enough for these cards to really work - the lack of a real board clear is holding it back. What it really needs is a card like Lightbomb, which made control priest viable again, instead of relying on finicky combos to board clear.
That, and some kind of sustain. Although gang up healbots is something, it’s no shieldmaiden.
I’m trying to make a spare parts / gazlowe deck work for fun, but I think I need Antonidus.
I had a handlock manage to get a mountain giant out on turn 5. I had just put down a mirror entity and had a polymorph waiting. Backfired quite a bit.
Man, I was playing against a warrior who played Wrynn. I had decent board control and 24 vs 8 HP. And he pulled out Justicar Trueheart, Emporer Thaurissian, and Chillmaw for free. All summoned right to the board.
That card is pretty ridiculous.
If Varian Wrynn was just a 7/7 for 10 with “Battlecry: Draw 3 cards,” that would be about on par for the cost - you’d pay 3 mana over Ancient of Lore for +2/+2 and drawing an additional card. As a card that sometimes says “10 mana: Summon a War Golem, Ragnaros, Ysera and Grom Hellscream” it’s ridiculous variance.
I’m currently experimenting with a deck I call Ambush Paladin. Play a stealthed minion, dump buffs on it, double its attack with Blessed Champion, smash face. I’m currently 2-2 with it, but I might try out the same concept with Inner Fire Priest - I think I’d be able to fit more card draw in that deck, and Mass Dispel would work nicely to clear a path for the big hit.
Okay, when it finally rains, it pours.
My long legendaries drought came to an end when I pulled a Blingtron from my arena win pack last night… then I pull Sylvanas from the Brawl pack today.
I don’t think I’m allowed to complain about my luck for the next week at least :).
Annnd, my next arena pack had Wilfred Fizzlebang
.
3 packs, 3 legendaries.
I keep stats on the packs I open (among other things), and I’ve gotten 3 Legendaries in [checks] my last 72 packs. I’ll try not to fly into a jealous rage.
Another oddity, in this ranked season: my last 27 games have gone like this:
10 game winning streak, taking me from rank 15(0) to 11(2).
8 game losing streak, knocking me back to rank 13(2).
9 game winning streak, bringing me to rank 9(1).
I guess that’s nearly the most efficient way to earn stars in any 19-8 block. Of course, I suspect I’m about to go on a long losing streak again, particularly since I’m starting to get out of my depth. (Rank 9 is about as good as I ever get.)
All those games were with a dragon priest that also throws in the Shrinkmeister/Cabal Shadow Priest combo, which has won me several games. (You weren’t using that Ysera, were you?) In those 27 games, Dragon Priest is also, by far, the most common deck archetype I’ve played against (7 out of the 27 games). Despite all logic, I’m 7-0 in those games, but I chalk it up mostly to luck.
Still having fun!
Oh, I’ll do it for you.
RAAAGGGEEEEEE :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
To be fair I’d had a noticeable lack of legendaries leading up to TGT and I’ve opened 40 packs since then. It’s just more noticeable when all three come in a row.
Plus I’m glad I held off on any crafting till the TGT meta settled down, since Sylvanas was at the top of my to-craft list.
Anyone have any ideas for making Fizzlebang work though, it seems like it would be really hard to get decent value from him unless you’re already way ahead.
Another personal statistical anomaly:
The Ranked Play matchmaker presumably tries to match you up with someone of your exact rank, but failing that, with someone as close to your rank as possible. I’ve always had the sense that I tended to get matched up with opponents slightly better than me, more often that with opponents of a slightly worse rank. But, hey, that’s the kind of data-exclusion fallacy that all humans tend to fall prey to.
30 games ago, I decided to keep track. Here are the results so far:
Games where my opponent is the same rank: 24
Games where my opponent is one rank better than me: 6
Games where my opponent is one rank worse than me: 0
“Just because you’re paranoid, doesn’t mean they aren’t out to get you.” Grrrrr.
You can trigger his effect on turn 6 if you play a Fencing Coach first and save the freebie Life Tap until your next turn.
