Well, Abby, I confess. Recall, I love math and physics and all that stuff. I would rather spend 15 hours figuring the whole thing out myself than merely asking someone. I guess all I really have to do for a good estimate is determine the mass to volume ratio of that type of wood, and make a calculated guess for the volume that the trunk and branches encompass.
Maybe I will do that tomorrow. Sadly, I have the time.
You could post it as a challenge to motivate yourself. See who can figure it out first. (Everyone would have to trust that you didn’t get a jump start!)
That’s what I need: a jump start. I think my life has a dead battery at the moment.
Thats a thought about the challenge. But they wouldnt have the dimensions, unless I went and measured first. And I am sure that a few motivated dopers out there would be far faster with it than me. I rather prefer the idea of doing it myself, actually.
I’m so bad at asking for help anyway. If I were stuck on a deserted island, and a rescue ship came by, I would convince myself that I don’t need their help, I can get off the island myself, thank you very much.
Hey, ETF. Thanks for saying you liked the poems. I don’t think I do limericks that well, but I’ll have a look in that thread and see what (if anything) I can do.
Actually, I spent six hours yesterday writing a story. (and a few hours this afternoon fine-tuning it before posting it to a couple of message boards and LJ) I don’t know if you all want to see it, though. Let me know if you do. (it’s meant to be metaphorical and semi-autobiographical… “write what you know,” they always say)
Finally got around to reading that debacle, did you? I’m glad he got what he deserved.
It’s been my experience that sometimes you do get credit for each post in a multi-post episode. Other times, you get credit for only some of the posts. There was this time I was posting to the Song Title Game, and it turned out to be a quadruple-post… I only got credit for two of them. When I quadruple-post new threads, I generally get credit for all four posts.
If you do want to see the story, should I post it in this thread? Or should I just start a new thread for it? Let me know, too.
And I just realized that saying “when I quadruple-post new threads” makes it sound like I do it all the time. I don’t… I think that’s only happened twice out of all the threads I ever started.
How many have you started? Sometimes it seems really random. I have seen a few that I was sure would die, but they didnt.
There were a couple I was going to start- still might.
But it is getting close to time to start the exercise. I have been so lazy lately, and not getting around to working out until it is almost night time.
As I write this, it’sw now 11:15 AM… I just got up an hour ago (yues, I’m lazy), and right now I’m having some multigrain Wheat Thins. No, that is not my real breakfast / lunch. Probably I’ll have some Chunky soup. (checken noodle?)
Speaking of potatoes, I remember when a bunch of us were over at our friend Keith’s house a couple of years ago. Anita had made some scalloped potatoes, and Mel had apparently never encountered them before. His then-girlfriend Frances (now his wife) told him to try some to see if he liked them, so he did.
Mel then said: “So… the big pieces are the potatoes, and the little pieces are the scallops?” Needless to say, we all looked at him in disbelief. He thought that we were referring to scallops and potatoes. (frankly, I don’t know what kind of dish THAT would have been…)
Y’know, I can understand the need for an elephant gun. I mean, how else are ya gonna keep 'em from leaving footprints in the butter, if ya don’t have a physical threat to keep 'em at bay with?
But a potato gun? Really, kids, if y’all need anything more than your shoe to intimidate a potato with, it’s time to give it up and just admit the potatos have won.
BTW, ETF, I was really fond of your Pythonesque poem.
You seem to be condoning the use of potatoes by the general public. That has me concerned. All it takes is one accident, and someone’s life is ruined. Won’t somebody please just think of the children???
