I still don’t get it. If the Broncos are so great, then they’re a threat to everyone. If the Pats are so bad, then everyone is a threat to them. Coming at it from either direction, then, clearly the Broncos are a threat to the Pats.
You keep on saying “no, no, they can’t be”, and then keep on giving more reasons why they are.
Who’s got a better track record: your eyes or Vegas? Your hunches based on three games played, or a massive machine which takes into account statistics, history, and psychology and which has fueled a multibillion dollar industry for decades?
Denver doesn’t have the exact same roster as last season. Manning isn’t under center anymore. The players they kept are now a year older.
You can’t look at the team as it stood a year ago, and extrapolate that they’re the best, even after roster turnover.
I despise the Patriots. But I have to admit that Bill Belichek could take 52 punters and Tom Brady and run deep into the playoffs.
Tom Brady is one of the best quarterbacks in history, and it kills me to say that. And he’s going to be fresh coming off of his suspension, whereas everyone else is banged up a little.
Belichek and Brady together are the best QB/coach combo in history. As long as they’re together, I can’t fault them being ranked the best.
Speaking to everyone who isn’t the OP, just as a sanity check here, the various NFL power rankings have the Patriots and the Broncos at either #1 or #2. It’s a pretty obvious, though somewhat subjective, assessment that they are likely the two best teams in football right now, so asking whether the two top teams in the NFL, who quite possibly may meet in the AFC championship game, are threats to each other seems like a totally normal discussion.
Manning was a non factor in every playoff game last season including the sb
2.if brady and belechick are so great why can’t they figure out how to win in denver? Also why did belechick lose to the same QB in the superbowl two times?
Denver has traded a future first-ballot Hall of Fame quarterback for a rookie. The Patriots have also not lost since 2015, are also 3-0, and after their next game will be trading their banged up 3rd-string quarterback for another first-ballot HOFer with 6 AFC Championships and 4 Superbowl rings. Led by one of the greatest coaches in NFL history.
Yeah, I see your point - Denver’s not really a threat to them I guess.
Everyone besides the OP realizes the 2016 Broncos are a significantly different team than the 2015 Broncos. I give them credit for starting out strong with a new QB but it’s foolish at this point to claim they’re clearly better than the other four teams that have the same record.
Let’s just be clear here. Peyton Manning last year was not a very good QB, and the Broncos won the Super Bowl despite him, not because of him. And while Trevor Siemian isn’t likely to be a Hall of Fame QB, he certainly can be as good as, and hopefully better than, Manning was last year, especially in the playoffs.
A minor nit: Siemian isn’t a rookie. He’s in his first year as a starter, obviously, but the Broncos selected him in the 7th round of the 2015 draft. He appeared in one game for the Broncos last year, making one rushing attempt for -1 yard (possibly a kneeldown).
You are missing an enormous opportunity, you do realize that, right? If you’ve got a better idea than the Vegas oddsmakers who should be favored to win the Super Bowl, you stand to make a fairly enormous amount of money. Right now the Broncos are 12-1 to win the Super Bowl, which means you can bet $1000 of your own money and if - nay, when - the Broncos win, they’ll give you $12,000! And it’s completely legal! Hell, bet ten grand and you can pay off your house! Since you see things Vegas can’t see, they’ll never see you coming!
On the strengths of the OP’s arguments, I decided to put $10,000 on the Broncos to win the 2016 Super Bowl. Seems like a lock. I’m having trouble finding the current odds, though…
