That’s right, I just forgot the name of it today. (And it went on too long)
I just remembered another part I liked: Han counseling the guy on the other end of the line in the “weapons malfunction” scene.
The elevator muzak version of the “Imperial March” was good too.
okay - some of my favorite bits -
Tom Baker and the blue vortex (tops the list - will always top the list)
the rotoscoped space ships (it’s tough to rotoscope an explosion, so I was fine with them being lifted off the DVD)
all the Reds
Chris (Seth Green) whining about Peter’s put down of Robot Chicken
Darth Stewie
Brianbacca
But after reading all your posts, I am going to have to watch it again, because I missed all the cantina (Play the same song again! Okay, we’ll play the same song again) patrons
eta: You still got that bag I gave you to hold?
That’s funny, because I was thinking “Chewbrian.”
I thought this episode was VERY boring. It was a shot for shot remake of the movie with a few jokes thrown in. I thought Obi-Wan was not funny. I thought Han-Solo was funny. I thought the sofa joke was funny at first but then not so much when they got to the MF. The only real laugh out loud moment for me was the Thai-Fighters joke. I also chuckled at Hans comment to Luke “Don’t get Penisy”.
I was quite disappointed with the Grey Poupon joke. That is WAY outdated.
All in all a 3 out of 10.
Other lines I loved: “Hey! What if they don’t come in this door?”
“This is how we do it in my neighborhood, bitch!” (Shoots Tie Fighter down with gangsta pistol shot)
The massive number of outright duplications of SW special effects shots in cartoon format must have cost a pretty penny.
ETA: “Thanks! We’re the Cantina Band! And we’re playing your requests!(As if someone else) Play the same song! OK! Same song!” (Plays same song.)
I loved the pimped-out Thai fighter.
HA!
I didn’t get that at first, but now I see it’s a ricer!
Haha, I loved the part where they were all going into the garbage compactor, and Brian didn’t want to go, so Peter took a pigs ear and brian said,
“That’s not fair, peter…” then starts barking incessantly!
I love it when they play up brian’s dog-like behavior. That funny “woowoowoowoo” type barking makes me laugh so hard. Another moment was when, last season, Brian had to toilet train, and he and stewie were trying to figure out the toilet. After figuring something had to do with the handle, brian said, “Don’t touch it stewie!” Then as they both ran away in fear, stewie was yelling, and Brian was barking again.
I think, if you’re really a big FG fan, you ought to give it a chance. Mr. singular and are haven’t seen any of the prequels, and only saw the original when it came out in the theaters, but we loved it! You’ve absorbed a lot of SW trivia through pop culture osmosis, more than you know. You’ll get most of the jokes (not many of the ones mentioned here went over our heads), and it’s a visual delight. I’d recommend it. It’s still on our DVR for re-watching, and that’s unusual for us & FG (although we still have Prom Night Dumpster Baby - great remedy for a shitty day at work!).
[hijack] Seth and his sister Rachael (who voices Hayley on American Dad and Olivia on Family Guy) were interviewed on Adam Carolla, and they grew up in the midst of musical theater. They’re both deeply into musicals, so don’t count on the musical numbers to go away any time soon. [/hijack]
Isn’t that part of the joke? The original explosions were tacked on too, because the spaceships were all done by motion capture.
I’m in the opposite boat of some of the people in this thread.
I can’t stand Family Guy. But the TV was still on Fox after the King of the Hill premiere, and we left it on. I couldn’t tell if it was going to be good or terrible until the line, “Hey! What if they come in another door?”, something I’ve been wondering for thirty years. Laughed my ass off the rest of the way through, sad to say the most at the more geeky things (the Imperial March Muzak had me rolling).
It was definitely meant for people my age. The Airplane jokes, the Grey Poupon reference, the Minnie the Moocher walk which was definitely a Blues Brothers reference (to this former sound guy’s ears, it sounded like the actual recording from the BB soundtrack album), all great period gags from the late 1970s early 80s. The sheer earnestness with which they went after jokes no one else has done in three decades of Star Wars parodies was heartwarming.
Me too. That is my favorite running gag. He is so pretentious, but at heart he is still a dog.
My faves:
- The Tennis Ball distraction “Yes, I would like the ball, please.”
- The Vacuum Cleaner torture.
- Getting pissed at Tom Tucker and wiping his ass on the carpet (my favorite!)
- Barking at black people.
I re-watched this episode last night and I grabbed a few more funny bits:
-
The non-flashback related joke about Phil Mickelson’s wife. As a moderate golf fan, who has ogled at Phil’s wife, this bit cracked me up.
-
The People’s Court theme song.
-
Even the sarcasm guy was included but no Joe? I don’t think he was the stormtrooper guy. It seems like they could have easily included Joe in the episode as a droid. Or even as the General giving the briefing at the end. I hope Wharburton hasn’t gotten too busy with his sitcom for FG. I love Joe.
-
The entire Stewie Conference Room scene was priceless.
“We have to think of resell value.”
“All your powers haven’t given you the ability to sell that overpriced condo!”
“Are you kidding? That thing is just above Sunset?”
“Lord Vader, your obscure references to the LA Real Estate Market…”
“I find your lack of faith disturbing. That place is going to fetch a great price!”
As for the Grey Poupon commercial, I liked it. I’m like a fish in a barrel for GP jokes. Even if you didn’t like it, you must marvel at the effectiveness of that ad. 20+ years later, we still remember it and associate it with the product in a significant way. Impressive advertising.
Tatooine, Wind, and Fire
“It’s called ‘Star Wars.’ Let’s start with Part Four.”
“Use the Force, Luke. Just force it in there. Like I showed you with the puppets. But don’t tell anyone, or you’ll get in trouble!”
Herbert has now been Gandalf, and Obi-Wan Kenobi. What other beloved & respected fictional characters will be soiled by this foul perv?
Just wait until they do the Family Guy Bible Stories.
That whole bit was a lift from “The Blues Brothers.” That’s how Jake and Elwood sneak into the Palace Hotel and Ballroom for their big show.
I was disappointed that we didn’t get a riff on the medal presentation scene with someone pointing out why Brian doesn’t get a medal too.
Loved the cameos in the Cantina scene. I actually had to pause it to catch Coach McGuirk and Roger.
What of the Simpsons had done this episode?
Cast:

C3PO- Lisa
R2D2- Milhouse

*The natural inclination is to make Burns into Darth Vader, but this joke is too obvious to miss, “Vader! Release him…and release the hounds!”
