It seems that good people die too soon and real bastards hang on and on. (You know who I’m talking about.) I’m tired of it.
We made a pizza for dinner last night and didn’t use all of our chilis. You know the ones; usually in the little blue cans that say ‘Ortega’ on 'em. I think they’re anaheims. We used another brand that I think are a little spicier. Anyway, we made eggs this morning with some cut up ham, the leftover chilies and some shredded cheddar. Very tasty!
It’s calm and sunny and 71F here this morning. Just another day in paradise.
Apparently other people think so too. We’ve been seeing a lot of RVs going by lately. Our little town has less than 500 people in it in the winter but pretty much doubles in the summer.
Later.
Well, the chess board is going to be a cutting board. It looks good at ten feet, but is a mess up close. But I learned some lessons from it, mainly not to make chess boards.
In Quebec we call cinnamon rolls “pets de soeur,” which mean, umm, nun’s farts. I’m not kidding!
Though to be fair, that’s only what it means in modern-day Quebecois French, and I think I’ve heard that the word origin was more like a teacher’s “pet,” a favoured student of a nun.
The eye is a little more painful today, so I decided I’d better go to the clinic. I was trying to figure out how the heck I’d get there. Finally decided I’d have to risk Uber. Then I called the clinic. They’re closed today. That solves that. My vision is OK, so not an emergency. I have a history of iritis, and I suspect that’s what this is. It’s led to rejection before, but I’ve already bumped up prednisone drops, so should be OK.
I shall venture forth to the store today. I won’t need fresh produce until tomorrow, but I’m thinking things will be pretty picked-over by then.
Butters, so glad you got home safely and have Buddy Boy back. I bet he’s glad to be home with you and Mr. Butters. Is there any hope of finding your bag? If not, have fun shopping!
Moooom, those dinner plans sound delish. Deviled eggs AND ribs? Sheer heaven.
Me: :attepts post work nap:
Gordie: “HELLO NEIGHBOR, LET ME VIOLENTLY WARN YOU OF THE PERILS OF THE INVISIBLE MOLE PEOPLE” “HELLO OTHER NEIGHBOR, LET ME VIOLENTLY WARN YOU OF THE DANGERS OF THE INVISIBLE MOLE PEOPLE”
Anybody want a geriatric Jack?
Yay susan!
Don’t you dare, we’ve lost enough Dopers this decade.
The worm bin cleanout did not happen today because procrastination is a vital part of the process. I did make chili, though. And I grocery shopped and went for a walk in the too-hot heat. Now I shall fritter away the rest of the day!
Actually, the ribs were for tonight - the eggs are for the gathering at my mom’s tomorrow. My sister said there’d be 12 of us - I’m taking 2 dozen deviled egg halves and 2 dozen ears of Amish corn. Daughter is going to make 5-cheese mac-n-cheese. No clue what everyone else is bringing, but it’ll be a huge feed because it always is at Mom’s.
We may have found a house for daughter and SIL - I sent a message to the realtor to see if we can get a tour on Mon or Tues. It’s small, but very affordable. So we shall see. The rest of the evening is for chillage.
I am both totally fed up with doctors/appointments/therapies/all things health-related including those related to employment and talking about nothing but that all the time… and also sort of don’t have anything else to talk about. My own, I mean. Talking about yours doesn’t bother me. But right now, I never want to see another doctor as long as I live. Forget it. They’re not doing anything helpful anyway.
Anyway. So there’s Hamilton, though. I know Hamilton back-to-front and have seen it live (the touring show), so I’m sort of putting off watching it. Keep it tucked away for when I really need it. I wonder how many people will watch it today and how many new sign-ups Disney+ has had. I was going to sign up for a month of it for this, but a friend gave me her password.
And there’s the kid, of course. The birthday party was planned at her uncle’s house so that he could do the cooking etc., but her uncle’s girlfriend had a baby uh (checks calendar) yesterday. So the kid has a new cousin (the only other girl!) and it’s not really a good time for hosting a birthday party. Baby was due on the 7th, so I don’t know why it was planned this way to begin with, but… I didn’t plan it. I don’t know what the plans are at this point.
I haven’t got her presents wrapped. That got away from me. Only wrapping available through the grocery app at Walmart was My Little Pony and… meh. Stuff I could order on Amazon mostly came in 3-packs and tbh I just don’t have anywhere to store a whole bunch of it. I’m thinking of doing a “treasure hunt” instead- one of those deals where you start with a card that says “I am a breakfast you adore, I come in berry or in s’more. What am I?” and then there’s a card in the pop-tart box that says “To keep them healthy, clean, and bright, you use me on your pearly whites. What am I?” and there’s a card under the toothbrush holder. You get the idea.
Next thing to tackle is food. For me, tonight, I mean. I have cream cheese wontons in the freezer and I think that’s dinner. Not a healthy nutritionally-balanced adult meal by any means, but I’ve still been feeling really punky and that’s the only thing that sounds edible right now.
Evening all. Did manage to get to Wal-Mart, got a new area carpet for the office space (the 3’ x 5’ was to small, so we’ll see if a 7’ x 10’ will do better) and a couple of odds and ends (and once again gave into temptation and got a new jug of Cheese Balls…). Still in the high 80’sF outside, so will spend the rest of the night inside.
Dot, I’d listen to Vow if I were you…he’s Pre-Med (see if anyone gets the reference…). And if you’re up to it, I think the hide-n-seek game is a neat idea…just not too many clues or the kid could get bored/frustrated.
FCM, glad the kids may be moving and you get your house back…but what about all the backyard equipment for Roxie? Or is she going to be a frequent visitor? And get things checked, but don’t worry about it.
hmm our corn is about 4 for 1.25 by way of the hispanic market chain so that’s not too bad for a doz tho
i lived in indiana off and on as a kid so i remember when by 4th of july you’d get corn off the stalk for like a dime a piece … (and buy it frozen in december for 5 times that )
Tomorrow’s gonna be interesting as our mayor might be put in jail by the governor for defying the fireworks show ban i have a thread in the QZ zone about it …
oh, my job at Brown is corrections and updates for addresses, for when you type the wrong ZIP and such. I’ve been here 3 weeks, and there are customers I already hate.
Howdy everyone. I must have been tired as I slept a good part of the day which means I shan’t sleep tonight and the vicious circle continues. I like being a night owl but when /if I ever go back to irk that won’t do.
Hubby is still doing great. Said he was a little tired too and of course there is no rest in hospital. He took a couple short walks around the hood today and took BuddyBoy out multiple times. These are things he could not do less than a week ago. He also spent more time in his office trying to get a handle on his business. He made me 50% owner a couple weeks back and added me to his bank accounts so I could access money should he not make it. The business would get shut down if that were to happen as I do not have an HVAC contractor license but I would have the ability to dissolve the corporation. Thankfully that was not needed yet. We are also thankful he has a couple good employees who was able to keep it running. In a couple weeks or so he will start to do small little easy jobs.
We discussed and decided we shall stay distant for 14 days as Miami is a real hotspot for Covid. I will have to venture to the grocery store once. Our county has a mandatory mask rule and the store has limited capacity. If I go very early I can avoid most ppl. I was very careful up there but would not want to
make anyone sick.We will have follow up appts soon too so another trip or two back up there.
Dots I know how you feel about hospitals, doctors and talking about illness. I’ve been doing it non stop since December. I had a good pity party yesterday and a good cry while waiting on hubs to be discharged. He’s been in hospital 7 times this year and countless appts. I am so very tired of it all. Plus the distance is about 125 miles from home. Just so sick of all of it. I do see some speck of light at the end of the tunnel. Plus, for me, this virus has really started to wear on me too. I’m tired of being afraid.
I am off now to try to find something to watch on Netflix or Amazon. I hope everyone has a fun and safe holiday.
I made fish’n’chips tonight. I used cod, and I don’t think I’ll get that brand again. Bones. (To be fair, they were big enough to avoid; but still…) Mrs. L.A. liked the fish, and said the chips were perfect. I’m on my 3rd margarita. (I had a Guinness with dinner.)
FCM, good luck on the house! The sale info for our rental went live today, and we hope we get a few offers this weekend. It’s a great little property with an excellent location. We planned to retire there, but after losing my job, we need the money.
It’s staying here - I’m the designated sitter snerk so once her parentals are fully back to work, she’ll be hanging with me. The house is in the same elementary school district as we are, so she can catch her bus right here! Anyway, here’s hoping we can see the place on Mon or Tues.
Had a terrible time getting to sleep last night and I kept waking up. So it’s gonna be a long day, on top of the gawd-awful long drive there and back. But there’s the pool, so yay for that! And FCD will be going - glad to get him out of the house and away from work for a little while.
And I’m finally getting rid of our old toilet! I put it under Freebies on Craigslist eons ago, and yesterday I heard from someone who wants it. She’ll be coming by tomorrow, so I’ll put it out next to the garage and she won’t even have to knock. I’m just glad to get it our of here. I didn’t want to throw it away - huzzah for re-homing!!
Happy Fireworks Day, USA and Happy Saturday to all!
