The "I'm sick of winter" thread

Hell has frozen over!

It’s 27C and very pleasant here today, with a gentle sea breeze.

The past fifteen years I’ve lived in a suburb of Cleveland OH.
Three of those winters have been described as “the worst winter on record”.

In August I moved to Flagler County FL

On Christmas Day, I played tennis outside.
Know why?
'Cuz I could!

Puts things in perspective for me.

Today I bitched because as a customer came in off the golf course he mentioned that it had gotten a bit nippy. It had dropped to just below 60. Last night I closed the cart sheds in a t-shirt and shorts.

Yeah, I’m just going to refer back to this thread when I feel cold.

But it’s not winter, is it?

Yes, this winter can just go now. We had the ice storm to beat all ice storms, leaving me without power for 6 days, and I was one of the lucky ones. Most in our area were out for nearly two weeks, getting their power back the day before Christmas. The storm started with 4 inches of rain/freezing rain, we then had a sub-zero, windy cold snap, two big snowstorms and a warm up in between. We’ve since had another snow storm.

We’ve gone through over a month’s worth of wood in less than two weeks and are now having to use more of the oil which we were going to save by supplementing with the wood we had. And it’s only the first week of January. If the weather is typical, we will have less snow, but sub-zero cold in January and then get hit with the big snows in February. By March, I expect to be a raving lunatic. Thankfully April will arrive and it will hopefully bring sanity.

Hey! We’re supposed to see above zero temps this weekend! The coldest this week in the state was some village up north where the high for the day was -60F, and the low was -67F. Cripes.

Every year older I get, the more I hate winter. Since I’m currently 32, that means by age 50 I’ll be a seething ball of rage by January…

I was looking through some pictures/video that my husband had uploaded the other day, and there was a short video of my son riding his big wheel. In the summer…

I watched the video, but could only see the big green trees and listen to the summer sounds. I actually felt longing in my heart, like for a old pet or lost teenage love…

::Sigh…::

And don’t forget the earthquake

Me neither. I have to get up in the dark this time of year, and I hate that.

If I ever got really, really rich, I’d live in Australia six months (or so) of the year and in the US the other part of the year, so I never had to experience the early sunsets this time of year. Presumably I would be rich enough to not need to work, so the late sunrises wouldn’t matter so much- I could just go back to sleep until a more civilized hour.

I walked out of my apt. building this morning, and everything was coated in ice. Me being a klutz, promptly fell. Ugh.

I don’t know how much snow Boston has had this December, but it’s too much for my liking. Ugh.

I can haz spring?? Plz?
