So you wake up one day and find yourself the main character in a popular TV show. What TV characters would be your choice in the “standard” relationships: boss, neighbor, co-worker, best friend and why? (Feel free to add additional categories.)
Boss: Mr. Bell from The Drew Carey Show, because he never comes out of his office and thus cannot interfere with getting your work done (and then goofing off for the rest of the day). Neighbor: Wilson from Home Improvement, just for the advice and interesting facts. Co-worker: Probably Alex Keaton from Family Ties because it’s highly likely he’ll end up taking all the work on himself and leave more time for goofing off. Best friend: Gary Hobson from Early Edition, to know in advance if anything bad will be happening to me.
This is post #3000, so join in and you’ll be allowed at the booze. holds up bottle
For my boss, I think I’ll choose Maynard G. Krebs from Dobie Gillis. You want a boss who’ll let you goof off? This is the guy.
My neighbor would be Samantha from Sex And The City. She’s so sex-hungry that she’d always be finding some excuse for me to, uh, drop by and “help” with something.
Co-Worker? I dunno, maybe I’d pick Jerry Seinfeld, or someone who’d keep me laughing all day.
And you stole my Best Friend!
[sub]I’ll let you slide, but only because it’s your 3000th post[/sub]
Congrats, Kat, on 3000 and a great thread. Can I make one addition to your standard list?
Significant Other: Mine would be on one of those shows like Seinfeld where the star gets a constant stream of gorgeous girlfriends parading through his life. Unlike Jerry, though, mine would last more than a week at a time. For the first arc of stories, say two months worth, we’ll go with Emma Samms. Grrrrrrrrrrowl.
Boss: C. Montgomery Burns, from The Simpsons. Hell, Homer keeps (and regularly gets back) his job, so I figure even I’d be looking at lifetime employment.
Neighbor: I’m going with my gut on this one and saying The Bob Newhart Show’s Emily Hartley. I can’t imagine a better, kinder, easier-to-talk to person to have as a neighbor in a sit-com situation. Plus, I’ve been in love with Suzanne Pleshette since I was like 7.
Co-worker: No question. Tony Soprano. Wouldn’t you want to know all your problems could be taken care of?
Best friend: Night Court’s Harry Stone? Grandpa Munster? Barney Miller’s Dietrich? I’m torn on that one. It may have to be an ensemble cast.
