I loathe this show with every fiber of my being, and yet I watch it almost every night. Well, not watch, have it on in the same room where I’m doing several things, one of which is monitoring the TV broadcast.
What do I loathe about this show? Oh, don’t get me started.

[li]Pat O’Brien – what a scumbag. His obnoxious “nickname” (“POB”), his faking friendships with the various stars, his “keep coming back” signoff since his monthlong disappearance for substance abuse treatment (it’s a slogan in 12-step circles, and isn’t usually used for bad syndicated TV shows), his general skeeviness… shudder[/li][li]Kathy Lee Gifford – need I say more?[/li][li]The constant stories about weight – there are two ongoing stories at the moment, one about these anorexic twins from Australia, who are total freak-show material, and the other with a size zero reporterette donning a fat suit (because we the viewers demand it) and going out and being driven to tears by mean people. I’m really not sure which is more offensive.[/li][li]The recycling of “Entertainment Tonight” material. Can’t they at least pretend they’re not showing a different clip from the same fluff interview we saw ten minutes earlier?[/li][/ul]
Why do I watch it? Honest to god, I don’t know. I’m not going to watch “Wheel of Fortune,” and the third network channel (I don’t have cable) has the show with Billy freakin’ Bush on it, who I loathe, but not with the soul-cleansing hatred I can muster for Pat O’Brien.
