This has officially passed “The Comeback” as my favorite show (OK, they basically are the only two shows I watch, but . . . ). Why are people not raving about this like they did “Sex and the City?”
No spoilers, but the Chunky Monkey scene was hilarious. And this is one of the few shows that can go from snide/funny to sad/touching without getting whiplash.
It will probably never make it to Season Two, dammit.
I agree (with it becoming my new favorite show.) I love dark camedy, and this has the perfect amount of it. I’ve only seen three episodes, and it’s so amazing. I do wonder why they repeated the same episode twice. Last week, they showed a new one, and an old one. I want to catch up, dammit!
I do wonder, though, if Bobbi (that’s her name, right?) really doesn’t remember making out with the girl and hurting that guy, or if she just said she forgot so they can both just pretend it never happened.
And I’m sort of torn on whether I’m glad she doesn’t remember or not. That scene was so amazingly vicious that I’d hate to think that she doesn’t remember it, but at the same time I don’t think I could continue to hang out with someone who could be that flat-out nasty to me while fully cognizant of it. And I like the fact that actions on this show have consequences; everything doesn’t just get reset every week.
Y’all are bracing yourselves for the end, right? Because you know it can’t last…
Hi, I’m ThinkSnow and I’m…a supporter of the show. I hope it’s going to be around for a while, it looks like it’s got legs.
I think it was the pilot ep with the scale and the “penises…touching…” line along with the figners touching to graphically show what Billie was talking about, yeah, that’s the point that my wife and I were hooked. That was such a funny exchange, and believable to a great extent…heh.
This show is incredible, and I will put myself in the same category as Eve–saying that this show has surpassed all others to become my new favorite.
The subject matter they are dealing with is incredibly sensitive, and while they make it hilarious at times, I think they are also making some very serious observations about addictions in general.
Last night was great, and I know it won’t give away anything to say that I thought the “Don’t ask don’t tell” turn around was great.
I was talking to my friend Donna in L.A. last night, who’s also a huge fan—“I am so 'Sam” I am appalled," she says. It’s nice to see a show about people as f**ked-up as my friends and I!
And it’s not just about eating disorders—in fact, I think concentrating on that in the promos will hurt it. The characters are dealing with sex, parents, drinking, work, friendship issues . . . Plus, it can be damn funny, and it was nice to see an episode without the too-easy gross-out humor.
I thought it was weird that he would rather be thought of as gay, than having an eating disorder. I also wonder how far the internal affairs officer would have goine to try and prove he wasn’t gay. I can imagine him talking with his superior:
“Well, he went out with me, and he was ok with that. We started making out, and he liked that, too. He was even into the oral sex, Sir. But he said he didn’t want to have anal sex because we were both tops. That’s cleary just a lame excuse, Sir, and he can’t be gay.”
If he admits to the disorder, he is fired. He then has to admit his failure to everyone, and he has them convinced he is doing great. He turned the tables quickly, knowing not only that his job would be saved–but that his means for purging would be continued.
I agree with this completely, and I hope they do continue to focus on the people, especially their relationships, and not just their addictions.
BTW, is anyone else as impressed as I am with the level of acting in the show so far?
No, no. They said if he admitted to being bulemic (I think the actual phrase was ‘girly eating disorder’), he would just get a suspension until he went through rehab. Granted, keeping a job is better than a suspension, but still better than completly off the force, which is what he has to deal with now.
Hmm. The hubby and I were lamenting the fact that there is NOTHING ON THIS SEASON.
Last night, we watched Pterodactyl on the Sci Fi channel. It’s that bad. And the thing is, we have a DVR, so, theoretically, everything worth watching from any hour of the day should be on the harddrive, and there was nothing but repeats.
