OK, first off (in a spoiler box if you didn’t watch previews for next week)
The Hell? You end the ep with a character having a heart attack, yet in the previews you just show him walking around, willy nilly? Way to for go all attempts at dramatic tension.
Overall, a decent episode. More dramatic than others, it seems. I loved it when the dude (I still don’t know their names) started killing all the bugs. Seriously, that vegan chick is a bitch, and he needs to dump her ass, or something.
And I knew something would happen for the fat guy to net get surgey since…well…if he DID, then the actor playing him would actually have to do some SERIOUS dieting before the start filming next season.
Where was mean group leader lady? I miss mean group leader lady! That mean group leader lady wannabe is just not going to cut it. Mean group leader lady NOW!!
I loved how Cancer Girl called Evil Gay Dad on his shit. I don’t know what’s up his nose about Billie. Did we learn that EGD was a conductor or something? Maybe he’s pissed at her for not continuing in ballet and he’s sublimating it into his bi-phobia?
Vegan Nitwit Girl has got to go. Either that or she needs to start really walking the walk, and walking it while wearing Jain-style clothes and face masks to keep from killing the helpless microbes and sweeping the buggie wugs out of her path with a broom and shit. I’m not vegan but I am vegetarian and don’t believe in harming animals, but even I draw the line at animals in my house uninvited who don’t pay rent.
This show is liable to lose me. The characters are too neurotic without enough redeeming humor. None of them have even made the slightest progress, yet none of the plotlines where they continue their self-destructive crap has been especially funny or compelling.
I don’t think they’ve decided if they want to be a comedy, a character study, a satire, or a full on drama. Perhaps that’s why they botched the preview/teaser spoiler, not sure if “uncertainty” is part of their formula.
Unlike Omniscient, I am loving the show more and more, and am distraught that next week is the Season Finale. I love both Cancer Girl and Vegan Girl—I think Vegan Girl is just the type of good-natured airhead to shake Sam out of his self-centeredness (not that it’s working—and too many closeups of roaches!!).
Where was the bulemic cop this week? Off canoodling with Mean Group Leader Lady?
Leader lady is funny, but the guy they had last night was pretty good too. Do you ever notice that they always say the meanest stuff to Sam? Hehe. He really does deserve it though. (Off topic, I go to support groups and sometimes I’d just love to say something like that to a whiner. )
Cancer girl is cool, but I think vegan girl needs to go. I don’t like those types.
He was at the meeting (faux-MGLL said some bizarre shit to him about having a black muscle body) and he was there for about eight seconds after the meeting, lying to Dan about nothing being wrong at work.
Say Eve, not to hijack this thread too much, but did you end up watching that episode of Sunny/Philly?
No, I was out of town, and it wasn’t on when it was supposed to be, so I couldn’t even tape it. A friend saw it and said it actually wasn’t bad at all, though.
Another thing I like about Starved: the four friends don’t constantly hang out together, as in Sex and the City, Seinfeld, Friends. They only see each other occasionally, lie to each other, don’t even know a whole lot about each other’s lives. Now, that’s realistic friendship!
Sam and the girl have known each other for ten years, but I think the others are all people they know from the eating disorder group. Therefore, they might be support friends and not close personal ones.
They may have started of as supoprtfriends, but I think the fact that the fat guy asked to live with the black ghuy for a while (few weeks?) due to marriage problems says they got a little closer. And then, of course, the black guy made him payback the favor by pretending to be gay.
