The IT Crowd - Series (season) 3

I’m guessing it’s over now, as six episodes sounds like a British season to me.

Anyone else like this show? I was starting to lose interest last season, as a lot of the plot lines were getting extremely stupid, and the laughs just weren’t there all that much, but I think they’ve really turned it around.

This exchange might very well be my favorite of any episode from any season:

Any other fans around?

Also, I’d heard at least a year ago that they were planning an American version of the show. Anyone have any idea what the status of that might be?

My favourite part of the 3rd series was that whole scene where Moss and Roy convinced Jen that the internet was a small box with a light on top. To be fair, it didn’t take much convincing.

I love this, have almost cried laughing at it (the episode in the theater), and I also have an inordinate secret crush on Jen.

The weak points, IMO, are the character of the CEO, and the goth.

I have a lot of friends who don’t get it; it helps that I’ve worked in software companies, and with developers, a lot, and get the stereotype.

My favourite line so far was when Roy said “Have you tried turning it off and… ah, even I’m getting sick of saying that”.

Agreed. Also agreed about the crush on Jen. She is delicious.

I think the goth (the character’s name is on the tip of my tongue) is gone, though. He didn’t appear at all this season that I can remember. Jen said that he came down with scurvy.

I love that programme!

I’ve been watching it from the beginning and IMO the first series was a little weak - good idea but no substance. They built up the characters in series two, and by the third, I was really impressed.

My favourite bit from series 3 is when Moss is knocked over, and opens his dazed eyes as the Windows opening jingle plays!

And I love the current CEO! “Faaaatherrr!”

The goth is called Richmond, played by Noel Fielding. I like that character too, maybe because I like Mighty Boosh, but my favourite is Moss.

Be careful with that!

Jen: It’s very light.
Roy: The Internet doesn’t weigh anything!

The best bit was right at the end where Moss and Roy are disappointed that all the suits also fell for the box with a light thing and think Jen is an IT guru, but then the CEO and his “girl” friend crash though the wall and CRUSH THE INTERNET! Mayhem ensues as the suits think the sky is falling.

neutron you should search out Lab Rats. Report back once you’ve seen it

I was watching for the American version, as Joel McHale was in it, and I lurves me some Joel. According to wiki, it never aired.

I agree that the first series was a little weak but it has got better and better (as a lot of ultimately classic series do) and has become one of my favourite new comedies at the moment.

I can’t disagree more with jjim (sorry!) about the Goth and the CEO - Noel Fielding is hilarious and the episode that shows his descent into ‘gothdom’ is one of the best episodes so far. As far as the CEO goes are you talking about the original (The legendary Chris Morris) or the new guy, his son? I think that the new guy is possibly even funnier although it pains me to say it as Chris Morris is practically a god to me - perhaps you need to be a fan of the 'Boosh to get these characters as they are both in it.

Best line of the series so far? ‘I can’t turn it up to 8 - it’ll blow my cock off!’ (the episode where Moss ‘pimps’ Roy’s phone causing him to think he’s having a heart attack during Denhams funeral)

Oh yeah - add me as another one who thinks that Jen is amazingly hot!

I can’t speak for jjim, but the reason I don’t like Douglas is that he’s such a one-note character. There’s very little substance there, and rich-and-powerful-idiot-who-is-obsessed-with-sex-and-nothing-else makes for kind of a tired character, IMHO. Richmond was kind of flat, as well, but I guess they never really gave him enough screen time to entirely flesh out that character.

I’ll give it a shot when I get home from work this afternoon if nothing more pressing comes up. Thanks for the recommendation!

I don’t like the new CEO as much as the Chris Morris one. The new one is merely nuts, but the original one was nuts and slightly scary. He had a bit of the Cap’n Bob Maxwell about him.
That said, I think series 3 was a return to the form of the second half of the first series, after a disappointing series 2. I just hope we don’t have to wait so long for the next series.

Ultra-short British series bug me. I mean, if it was an American show with the number of episodes they’ve had thus far, they’d just be finishing up with season one!

The least they could do is not wait an eternity between each series. Ah well.

I loved when Moss tried to freak out Roy by throwing the empty cup of coffee but he really threw the full one and didn’t notice. I cracked up, then it devolved into Roy sleeping on the street.

The Friendface episode killed me too.

Pretty much even when this show gets a bit ridiculous or lame I still like it.

And Roy got a hair cut and looks much cuter.

I do see your point about Douglas but I think he’s not in it enough for it to get boring (for me anyway) plus I may be a bit biased because he really reminds me of someone I know!

I think Richmond didn’t get much screen time because Noel Fielding would have been working on the ‘Mighty Boosh’ at the time so was essentially a celebrity cameo. I just loved that episode so much (the descent into gothdom one) that I always find the character hilarious - particularly the way he has no idea what the server is or does but has memorised the light sequence on it!

Haha, yeah I’d forgotten about that one. That was pretty good. I also got a kick out of him giving the widow Reynham a Cradle of Filth CD at the funeral.

I do love that fight between Douglas and his friend who used to be from Iran. The little hop back up Douglas would do every time she knocked him down was hilarious.

I think one of the strongest episodes was when they went to see “Gay: A Gay Musical.” Roy’s delivery of “I’m disabled” never fails to crack me up.

I agree with those that preferred Chris Morris to Matt Berry. I find Douglas too much.
