The Labo(u)r Day MMP

Is it a chest freezer? I suppose someone probably makes a frost-free chest freezer, but I’ve never seen one.

Why were you keeping Roxy in the basement? What could a two year old possibly do? :tongueincheeek:

Boo

swampy, I think you should go with the checked apron and a toque.

doggio, not a sugar mama, but if you could switch hockey teams, I work at a place where most of the production jobs are sit down and in a climate controlled building.

My mama was the queen of the bizkit makers. She was originally from east Tennessee, so hers were of the baking powder variety, but would raise high as a kite and were light as a feather. While I use her recipe, albeit subbing butter for lard, without as many years of practice as she had, mine aren’t as good.

I got enough stuff done at irk today, I should be able to knock off a little early tomorrow. Now for KP and playing around in the studio.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

I accomplished … some things.

I did obtain gooshy food for the cats, along with a (shh!) harness & lightweight leash for Monkey. He took to the harness like a champ (brand new Friskies! gooshy food helped) so I hope eventually to help him associate leash & harness with Happy Fun Times, since he’s not nearly as docile and good about coming when called as Nikki.

It’d be fun to take him on car rides. And shit does happen … as evidenced in Oregon. I’ve been texting my former bestie who moved there, subtly - and increasingly less so - urging her to pack a bug-out bag & figure out where she may have to evacuate w her beloved spaniel.

I have a pasta-cheese-onion conglomeration I just made up baking in the oven.
I’ll let y’all know if I have to resort to frozen box dinner later.

No, it’s a small upright, similar to this. It provides plenty of storage for the 2 of us.

I managed to get a walk done between downpours, getting back shortly before dark, and then only because I cut the walk short. But I needed to get out there. Last time I walked was Moanday, and I won’t get another chance till Saturday, weather permitting.

BBBoo - no, I don’t leave Roxy in the basement. :stuck_out_tongue: I can’t stand being down there - their old space reeks of cats and such. ick. Most of the stink should go when they remove the carpet. And when all their crap is gone, I need to clean and deodorize the space. So I’ve got that going for me.

And on that note, I need to crawl towards bed, since I’ve been up since stoopit early.
yawn

That may be half your trouble right there. Have you tried making biscuits with lard as she intended?

Pasta-cheese conglomeration (now starring: bonus onion!) was the gooey carb bomb I hoped for. Brown-crusty on the edges and top, too, because while I may have a tiny inconvenient kitchen, this oven’s broiler ain’t playin’ NO games.

I’ll be snacking on bites of this thing till work tomorrow, or till it’s gone, whichever comes first. Until then, a restorative cuppa hot Lipton is in order.

Pretzel Update: inhaled first rat like a drunk frat boy who’s never seen onion rings before. Ate second rat like a proper society matron who nonetheless hopes nobody witnessed that unseemly show of gluttony.

TLDR: my snake ate two big-ass rats one after the other, after fasting for ten solid friggin’ months last winter.

10 months gives hibernation a whole new definition.

Boo

I have and they come out marginally better. I just don’t keep lard on hand like she did. I also haven’t made them several times a week for ~50 years.

Evening all. Soccer has been practiced and Big Bowl O’Sallit has been assimilated, so the evening can be given over to readin’ and internettin’. Garbage can is still outside since I forgot about Labor Day and they garbage folks will come tomorrow. Ah well, 90% of my neighbors did the same.

shoe, nice that Pretzel had a good meal; maybe not so nice for the rats, but hey, I’m no vegetarian either…

I eat biskits at Cracker Barrel, but been quite awhile since I made any Bumba style. My Mom wasn’t much for baking bread products so never got in the habit.

Dot, we always want to see pictures of your cats; or any other beasts you have about. And of course we’re dying to know cat heritage stories, don’t you know we live for them???
And keep us informed on the potential new acquisition…

flyboy, exploding home appliances are not recommended.

Have read much but too sore to comment further. All y’all take care now.

How’d you get the clear air? :scream:

Made Italian chicken with cheesey potatoes for dinner. Time for the pre sort nap!

:rat: :rat: :snake: NOMNOMNOM
Pretzel eat like Gordie. Without the winter fast, of course.

The closest I have to a cool biscuit recipe is “cheesy crescent ghosts.
It’s from AGES ago. Like… high school. Must have been in the 15-16 neighborhood because I remember we drove to the grocery store on our own and it was kind of a big deal. Like we could get those sugar cookies with the ghosts or pumpkins in the middle and our own pumpkins to carve. On the way through the checkout (or maybe past it?) we picked up one of those little magazines with recipes in it because it had crescent ghosts on the cover. I’ve made them a few times since. Unless you’re part of a family with kids, there aren’t a whole ton of settings where they’re appropriate. They are fun, though.

No public takers for the baby kitty yet. I’ll give it til tomorrow and then ask.
My resident girl is cuddled up under my arm purring like she wants to make sure I know she’s mine and I’m hers. Don’t worry, little chicken… no fancy-looking kitten will ever replace you.

Ask first thing in the morning. Be there when they open the doors.
Then send pictures.

Boo

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 74 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 91 and maybe rain. Or not. Who knows. TWPTB are apparently havin’ a just CAN’T day. The big plan of the day is to assist with mowage over to the church house later this mornin’. Hopefully we will get at least most of it if not all of it done. Provided that we don’t get rained upon that is. We shall see, I reckon. Sup shall be majik intartoobz pizza and sallit.

OK, I read all but have no retention skillz this mornin’, so yays, boos, hugs, trouts, chitlins, noogies, and how you doin’s all around as needed.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah,

Happy Firday Y’all!

Another early waking day - made it to 3:30 this time. But I’m showered, dressed, fed, and caffeinating. We might actually see some sun today, but the humidity is just short of “inhale too deeply and you’ll drown” levels.

I’m getting pissed at Daughter and SIL. We gave them sufficient warning that we needed the basement empty and cleaned by Sep 14 and that we need our truck this weekend so we can buy the doors and molding. Meanwhile, SIL has work tonight and tomorrow night. The dump is closed on Sunday, which means the carpet won’t be going this weekend. I am going to make sure it’s out of the basement, tho - it REEKS!!!

What really pisses me off is that I kept Roxy on Weds when SIL was off work because he was going to move stuff. Well, he took one truck load. ALL FREEKIN’ DAY and he took one load. Then he was supposed to come over yesterday before work and get another load, but instead, he went grocery shopping for his brother who has to self-quarantine for 2 weeks. I’ve been grocery shopping for years - it doesn’t take all day! But nothing was moved. Meanwhile, I need the basement cleared so my cats have a place to stay while the painter is here.

So, yeah, pissed is the right word. They act as if no one in the history of time has been stressed and busy when moving. AAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGHHHHHHHH!!

End of rant. For now. I need to leave in a little bit to fetch the toddler. Then I’ll spend some time taking pictures off the wall and pulling nails. I also need to unload the hutch so we can move it into the garage, which means I need to clear a space in the garage. I need a staff of muscular young assistants to do this heavy lifting, dammit. Volunteers??? Anyone? Anyone?

Happy Firday anyway.

Dot’s gettin’ a kitten, for sure!

{* Raises hand.* } Ooh! Oooooh!

Me! I’m dying to know. Do you think she’s part Bengal? Savannah cat?

Will you post pics? I wanna see!

I haz a :open_mouth: at @susan 's pic. That’s horrifying. I can’t believe my friend hasn’t GTFO yet. When I asked if she had a bug-out bag ready, she was all “Hmm. Yanno that’s not a bad idea!” :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Oh, and anyone playing around with crescent biscuits is advised to make them the “normal” way … but roll up each one around a piece of chocolate or spoonful of mini chocolate chips. Bake as usual.

You are welcome.

Just spent some time in the basement, gathering trash & recycling, and packing bags and boxes with assorted miscellaneous stuff in no particular order. Daughter can take a car load home tonight. I’m taking a break at the moment, waiting for the carpet guy to show up. Once he’s done, I’ll head back down there and attack the room full of kitty litter and such. ugh. Then I need to find a spray bottle for a bleach solution.

I also started emptying the hutch. I’ve got a bunch of tea cups and saucers in miscellaneous styles - anyone want them? They’re yours if you pay for shipping or stop over to claim them. I’ve also got 3 clear glass oil lamps that have been collecting dust for ages. I see a trip to the thrift store in my future.

Dreary and overcast, but it’s not raining, so there’s that. Rah.

Blurf. Payday, but this one won’t go far enough, I’m afraid. Stoopit bills.

It’s a lovely day, though - cool-ish and pretty sunny. Hopefully that’ll put people in a good mood.

Have a good one, Mumpers.
