Morning all. 76F heading for 88F and no chance of rain for the next couple of days, so may have to water the yard this week. Only labor today is getting out and over to Jersey Mike’s for my Moanday sammich and shopping at the next-door Publix (need bananas and Q-tips…). Outside of that, nothing much planned.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! MG. Don’t dwell on it, just find some cake and eat it, enjoy life.
Happy birthday MG! :throws confetti: Go for the cake and ice cream.
Up, caffeinating, breakfast is et, supper is in the crockpot and I’ll do the Sunday chores today (yeah, I know). I may head to Cookeville to check out a stall in their antique mall this afternoon. If not, Nelson will get a brief trip to the dog park.
Happy Labor Day! I awoke to a blood-red dawn and the smell of smoke from the El Dorado fire. Can you believe that is was sparked by some idiots doing a gender-reveal?
Roxy wore herself out at the playground. When we got home, she had lunch, watched a little TV, then crashed. I’m hoping for another hour of quiet.
I’ve got 3 loads on the lines and I just finished folding the 4th load - it went into the dryer because I ran out of line space, and I don’t hang unders and socks out because it would take tooooooo long. Next labor is to clean the bathrooms - one of my least favorite chores. But it’s gotta be done and the dog won’t do it, so there ya go.
It’s so hard being me sometimes… ^pose of woe and despair^
Happy Birthday, MLE! (Thought you’d like that better’n Midget.)
Let them eat cake!
Well, I’ve go everything out of the basement, and removed the bottom six steps of the stairs. Found out that there wasn’t much holding them up, so I’ve got some rebuilding to do. Wednesday the guy is coming with his Bobcat to scrape it flat and load in a bunch of gravel. Next week we get concrete!
^Flings confetti with wild abandon!^
Then I get to fix the stairs and load a lot of this stuff back into the basement. Our back yard looks like Fred Sanford’s junk yard. But a lot of that stuff will get piled up to wait for the Fall clean-up the city does twice a year. (free trip to the dump sorta thing). Previous owner left everything. A lot of it broken, but there’s a nice big compressor down there and a few other things I’ll use.
Anyway, I think today shall be a day of sloth. We’ll prolly try to set up Wifey’s fancy new bird feeder is all.
Happy cake day EmilyG now you have to eat one bite of cake for each Mumper. It’s a rule, that I just made up.
I don’t know where a bit of energy burst today came from, but I gratefully rode that wave for an hour.
Got a couple boxes of crap cleared outta the basement, cleared out the litter box (holy smokes, adolescent boys - including felines - have weapons-grade pooping abilities!) and the crowning achievement, scrubbed several levels of grime off the top of my microwave, which had gotten coated with that greasy dusty film we slobs get on our kitchen appliances. THAT has been bothering me for a while now, and I am very glad it’s clean(er) although I may take a new scrubbie sponge to it later.
Also, just generally got some junk organized and put away. I have lots of scraps and odds & ends “just in case” and I need to do a more ruthless job of not hanging onto every last bit of randomness.
Debating going for a drive this afternoon. I have a vague sense of where there’s a national forest not terribly far away.
I double-plus LOL’d at this. Still giggling, because I can see it in my peripheral vision on preview. Thanks for the belly laugh.
Hall bathroom is ready for the painter. I won’t bother scrubbing the floor or tub till he’s done. Master bathroom is halfway ready - I need to buy a few more magic eraser sponges - I had one left and it didn’t take long to get raggedy, but it does a good job, so I’ll buy a bunch more.
Daughter is on her way here to use my vacuu-bagger and claim her spawn. While she’s here, I’ll run to the dollah sto’. I should pull something out of the freezer for supper. Off to forage.
Both Q-tips and Bananas have been acquired, and yes, I do know which ones go where…
Got some more paperwork for soccer printed out. And a friend who owes me money sent it to me, along with the news she is getting divorced and injured herself falling…so I sent it back to her, I don’t need it and it can help her out.
Outside of that, nothing much planned for the rest of the day.
shoe, google maps are good for finding things like stores and National Forests…
You’re cute. I long ago drank the Google kool-aid (no Alexa in this house) and what I meant was, I looked at Google Maps for a bit, saw that the main highway nearby goes directly into the Nat. Forest, and figured “Eh, I can wander in that direction. See what I see.”
I just want a cheap-to-free way to get outta the house. Walking outside and standing in the yard staring at nothing is quite free, but may eventually attract odd glances from the neighbors.
Put our flag out this morning in honor of all those who have fought the good labor fight over the years.
Had another Best Breakfast Sandwich Ever Concocted this morning. Damn, but I love those!
Went out and put another coat of paint on the outside stair rail, then hauled all the trash bins to the curb for tomorrow’s magic trick (you put trash out on the curb and it disappears!). And all before noon!
We had some work done in the basement, including replacement of some carpet that had to be removed in order to dig up the concrete and repair a drain pipe quite some time ago. The carpet down there is glue-down instead of felt backed. It would have been a major project to remove and store all the crap down there and then have proper carpet put in, so we opted for glue. Man, that stuff stinks, and it wafts up through the ventilation ducts, even with everything shut off. Can’t leave the door open down there because of critters, so it’s just having to dissipate slowly, with a little help from the exhaust fan. Luckily, it’s warm weather, so we can open the doors and windows upstairs.
Our next door neighbors are coming over to chat this afternoon. We’ll be exercising due caution out on the deck. It’s just been ages since we’ve had any sort of extended conversation with anybody, so this is welcome.
The wife has been having dizziness, so I browbeat her into seeing her doctor. The doc thinks there may have been a TIA incident, so she’s got a week of appointments ahead for ECG, MRI, Holter monitor, etc. She’s understandably worried, since her mother had a major stroke that left her paralyzed. But as I remind her, that was the result of a clot after a mastectomy. We’re trying not to get in a lather over this.
We worked outside for the morning. I stained a new and larger top for TIS’s sewing table and sorted through stuff. TIS picked up the yard and pruned some of her flowers. We had Popeye’s spicy chicken sandwiches for lunch. I have some beautiful New York Strips to grill for dinner tonight.
It is odd to think that today is my last paid holiday. I retire in 12 days.
The news has yet to reveal the sex of the soon-to-be-taken-by-CPS-because-its-parents-are-idiots sprog-to-be.
The fire is headed uphill, and I am 3 miles away downhill, so I’m feeling pretty safe. Except for the smoke, falling ash and constant drone of water-drop planes overhead.
First day of irk with students around. I have the first (sorta) class with me in charge tomorrow- in fact, I have 2, as my manager told me just before I left that I’m doing one first thing as well- I was literally sticking my head round the door to check if there was anything I needed to do tomorrow, on my way out the door and I hadn’t planning on coming in until 10 (I was told I could fit my unscheduled hours in wherever). I think this just be the way of things there, so I can either deal with the chaos or quit… Ehhh…
Dots- the first time I had atarax I slept the sleep of the innocent for 16 hours straight and scared my doctor…
Today’s PSA: Did you know more chimp attacks in Cincinnati have been caused by ear bananas than by radish earrings? Don’t become a statistic, people! If you MUST wear bananas, insert them in your nostrils. You’ll look like a walrus and frighten off any rogue chimps. (This is why chimps and walruses are seldom seen together in the wild.)
MG, please give us an updated cake report when you can. I hope you put a birthday candle in it and made a wish.
cookie, I hope your wife is OK. The good news is that even if it WAS a TIA, she can take steps and meds to prevent a major stroke. Still, tests are no fun, and waiting sucks. Hope all goes smoothly and the results are a relief!
hippie, congrats on only 12 more days. Is that work days or calendar days? We need to have a virtual retirement party.
Dots, sleep is so important for our poor beleaguered brains. Why not check with the doc to see if taking the “as needed” meds close to bedtime is OK on the regular is OK? If not, there may be other good alternatives.
