A couple of months ago I met a Doper in real life for the first time. We were at the same music festival. It was a hoot. Does that count?

Actually it was a Deadhead fest. It came up in a thread that we were both attending and we exchanged phone numbers.
I’d agree, but I think that there are a number of us non-Americans who are a little leery about visiting the United States right now, or just plain unwilling to.
Chicago would be a fine idea for the reasons you state, but perhaps not for a few years. In the interim, I’d suggest Toronto. Just as central as Chicago, easy to get to from all over the US and Canada, and certainly doable for our overseas friends.

Not so much. Airports are definitely Federal but TSA doesn’t care about weed. They are looking for explosives and such. But you definitely aren’t legal there nor are you in many States. It would be a silly thing to do
I think that @Horatius was referrring to Toronto Airport. In Canada, where weed is perfectly legal at the federal level. Shouting “Any Dopers here?” in Toronto Pearson Airport, might get you a few looks, and attention from any SDMBers within earshot, but the police will ignore you.
