Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. YAWN 'Tis 56 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 70 and sunny for the day. Also, right now, it’s foggy out. Real foggy!
Today’s excitatement involves gettin’ stuff done for tomorrow’s big New Year’s Day dindin. Eight people will be here to snarf it down. As I post N.O.T. for the N.O.T. sallit are cookin’. I also need to clean collards pretty soon and get them cookin’. I actually like ‘em cooked the day before and warmed up just before servin’. Collards taste better to me that way. Matter of fact I think all greens taste better that way. The black-eyed peas also need to be “looked over” and set to soak bein’ as they are dried. So, busy cookin’ time today at da cave.
BBBobbio I’m glad you managed the trip speedin’ ticketless.
gt you home now or still galavantin’ all over the world?
shortdrum good to know the CO detectors work!
I needs me some more caffiene and should consider some brekkie for rumbly tummy.
Still alive. Still have a headache. We’re gonna have to take the storms off the windows in the bedroom to air it out because it still reeks of exhaust.
Up earlier than I wanted to be, but honestly, I’d rather Scruffy bark to be let out than relieve herself on my clean carpets. So there’s that.
No idea what today’s plans are. **FCD **wants to get out of the house for a while - I’ll leave our activities up to him.
Our new aquarium denizens arrived safely yesterday, but one of the fish didn’t look too good. Once the lights turn on, I’ll look to see if he’s still alive, poor thing. They didn’t ship one that we ordered because they said it looked ill - guess this guy looked better before being bagged. This company is really good, tho - if it dies, they’ll make good.
Got a call from daughter last night - she was in Tampa with her friends dining at Sonny’s. She wanted to know if we wanted a bottle of BBQ sauce. What we *wanted *was Sonny’s BBQ, but we settled for the sauce. Go ahead and gloat, swampy!
Very mild weekend forecast - it might hit 60!! Definitely not winter-like. Then by Tuesday, the highs are supposed to be in the 30s, which is lower than normal. Screwy weather for sure. At least there’s no white precip in the forecast. With 2 weeks till cruise, just watch a blizzard hit the night before we’re supposed to go!
Heh. Just what I was coming in here to post about. I’ve been having a problem with dehydration lately which has led to some periods of lithium toxicity. It has seemed to me that this has occurred on days when I’ve had more caffeine (diet coke) than usual. So, I decided to give up caffeinated beverages altogether to see if I felt better.
It turns out that I actually have been feeling much worse this entire week because… caffeine withdrawal can cause depression until your body fully adjusts.:rolleyes:
Slept decently (thanks to Vicoden, Skelaxin, and a Twisted Tea) and woke up at a reasonable hour; then languished in bed with a purring kitteh for another 45 minutes.
I am going to venture out later today (after Peapod) and bid 2011 Good Riddance. I might even go over to friend’s house (as invited) but then again, maybe not.
N.O.T. sallit is made, blackeyed peas have been “looked through” and soaked, and collards are all washed and torn. Later today I shall put the collards on to cook and this evenin’ before beddybye I shall toss the peas in the slow cooker with some hamhock and let 'em cook low and slow over night.
ohai! this week was my Winter Vacation most of it with no Intartoobz
I went to San Diego and visited my Mom: 'twas her 80th birthday! >^.^< spent most of the visit talking, going wherever she wanted, and carefully hiding my Net withdrawal symptoms she is very very happy, so Yay! it was even worth sleeping on a Too-Narrow couch all the time I was there.
swampy, I had black-eyed peas soaking but your post makes me WANT! greeeeens too… I shall soon brave the market.
Happy Noo Yearz Eve to everyone!
Drove to Putnam to meet the mechanic - 45 minutes.
Waited for mechanic - 20 minutes.
Followed mechanic to his garage - 20 minutes.
Got there and realized the garage is on 169. Memory sparks - 169 is somewhere near Southbridge too. Decide to take 169 home.
Drive home time - 20 minutes. :smack:
169 dumps off right near the center of Southbridge - about 3 miles from my home. In other words, the garage is about 15 miles from my home. We drove all the way to 395 in Webster and then down to Putnam and over to Pomfret, because none of us realized it was a straight 15 minute drive. Now that we know, it makes this mechanic even more desirable. He’s actually closer to us than Firestone is.
My bedroom still smells like fumes. We’re got a baby gate to put in the doorway (The Terrible Iggy Dammit is on a marking kick so he can’t be trusted in there). Now the bedroom can air out. I still feel oogy but that’s not surprising considering how little sleep I got and that I spent my whole morning surrounded by richly burning vehicles. Ugh. Gonna finish my soup and go back to sleep - in the living room.
Good morning. I am feeling somewhat more human today. At least I feel like I can do something besides lie around feeling like death.
We’re supposed to go to a friend’s house to celebrate the new year tonight. I honestly don’t want to go, but since my nose is not producing copious amounts of snot, and my coughing and sneezing are down to almost nothing, I’ll go.
I’m only going because my friend is making a special dish especially for my husband.
I hope Gnat is feeling better today, LiLi. You are all still in my thoughts.
Greens to ensure money in the new year huh? Maybe that’s what I’ve been doing wrong.:dubious:
Got my new iPhone 4S yesterday and played with it most of last night. There are some things I really like about it and some things I really dislike. Maybe the dislikes can be dealt with though. we’ll see. I guess I need to download iTun es on one of the computers now.
Shortdrum, how’d your house get past the inspectors? You’re supposed to have a fire rated wall and door between your garage and your living area. At least that’s how I remember it.
Does green jello work? Or pistachio pudding? Or mint chocolate chip ice cream?? Or this guy?? ----
We ran to Waldork and I returned the ugly shirt to Sears - easy-peasy, so yay! Then we went to the AT&T store where **FCD **talked to the salesguy about android phones and tablets. Now we’re home.
Supper will be whatever leftovers we forage out of the fridge. And punkin pie - very yummerrific punkin pie! The chances of me making it till midnight are close to nil, but we shall see.
Fun! The annual NYE Twilight Zone marathon is on the SyFy channel. Yeah, we’re such partay animals!
Collards are cooked. Aigs are deviled. I deciced we need deviled aigs for tomorrow, cause, well, deviled aigs! Soon I shall start dindin. Steak, baked N.O.T., sallit and cheesey bread. YUM!
I suppose any green leafy veggie one cooks would work for ensurin’ money in the new year. Around these parts that means either collards or turnip greens. Cabbage could work also, one supposes. Spinach, kale, or any other green leafy veggie also I guess. I like collards cooked with a ham bone. Mucho nummy!
Oh and I have strawberries from da freezer thawin’. Dessert tomorrow shall be Mennonite lady pound cake, strawberries and real whipped cream. Num, num!
I’m assuming that’s is a matter of everything else in this house - either it was grandfathered in or it’s a special circumstance because it’s a log cabin. We also have a laundry chute in the bathroom which isn’t allowed but was grandfathered in.
