The Little Things That Make Life Worth Living...

The perfect pistachio: the slightly salty taste that melts in your mouth.
Waking up a little early in the morning, all snuggled up with my SO and knowing I get to stay there for 10 minutes.
An evening spent playing silly card games with friends.
A music performance that ends with that perfect silence. The one that sends a shiver down your spine.

Inquisitive minds.
People who have never learned their proper place.
The Bright Ball Up In The Sky.
Making friends.
Spanish “chocolate in a cup”, the one that’s barely on the liquid side of solid.

Now if we could just bottle up each and everyone of these wonderful things we’d have a fragrance that would bring peace to the world

The anticipation you feel when you receive an unexpected package in the mail. The first bite of a perfectly cooked steak. The first day of the year where it just “feels like spring.” The softness of a woman’s skin. Leaving work when you’re about to start a long vacation. The taste of beer after you exhausted yourself helping someone move. The sound and feeling of a perfect golf swing. Attending a baseball game on a sunny, not-too-hot day with a dog in one hand and a brew in the other. Taking the seal off a jar of peanut butter. A state fair. Seeing your favorite band live for the first time and learning they’re even better in concert. Eating a weekend lunch your SO made you by surprise. Drinking on an outdoor patio at dusk on a summer day with friends. Cooking a meal yourself that’s so damn good you think it could be served in a restaurant. The feeling of air conditioned air hitting your body on a hot, humid day.

Nice idea for a thread. Mine:

-Fireflies at twilight
-The quiet of the evening
-Getting engrossed in a good book or computer game
-Driving and blasting some good rock music on the radio
-Sleeping late
-Hiking in the mountains
-Swimming in the ocean

I nearly forgot Tomato Frogs. No world in which there are frogs which look like tomatoes can ever be an entirely bad place.

I’m gonna have to try that, thanks!

I’m going to nominate ice tea, especially on a hot day. There’s nothing quite like coming in from 100+ heat, and slurping down tea that’s just this side of frozen.

Indeed I did mean earworm. :o

I shall also add to my list - Bacon Salt.

The sense of genuine appreciation from an audience.

That thing where you can see several different situations all converging exactly on the punchline that only you have thought of, just in time.

When things turn out exactly as you intended - for example, when you cut a mitre joint and it fits so snugly that you couldn’t slip a sheet of paper in between, or when the meringue rises and sets in the perfect shape and consistency, or when you crack open the boiled egg and the yolk is just right for dunking toast soldiers.

Extra effort that produces extra good results.
Hearing a heartfelt “thank you.”
Giving a heartfelt “thank you.”
Having a coworker berate you for something or other and being able to explain that doing what he wants is actually Against Your Orders.

Dragging yourself in from a hard day at work, having had to struggle through the piercing wind and driving rains all the way from the train station, only to find that you forgot to turn the heating off before you left this morning!! Oh, god, it’s such a lovely feeling to come home to a warm house on a frigid winters’ day.

Listening to little babies laugh. Nothing thaws the hardened heart of this disgruntled old broad quicker than hearing a little 'un with a bad case of the chuckles. It is THE most amazing sound in the world I reckon.

Finding that ALL of those cuttings you took from the lavender and rosemary plant/s have actually struck this time.

It tastes even better if you can persuade someone to make it and serve it to you in bed.

Watching the unfettered delight of babies as they discover they have toes to play with. Watching a toddler chase pigeons. She has no chance of catching one, she wouldn’t know what to do with it if she did, but nothing’s going to stop her gleefully and determinedly stumping after them.
