No, it was pretty well after that. The cause of the schism was Ed parachuting in, making up a bunch of new rules - particularly for The Pit - that a bunch of folks found kind of stupid and patronizing, and everything blew up. Some posters never came back.

No, only partially right. There was a scare at the time the SDMB would be folded under the new ownership that triggered Ed to make the changes to The Pit.
It usually doesn’t get that much traffic - a lot less than this board, which doesn’t seem to have nearly as much activity as it used to as far as I can tell.
In terms of posts per year, the SDMB has been dropping by 10 to 15% per year for a while now. The GB, in terms of post count, gets maybe a tenth of the volume of the SDMB.
There were actually two boards that formed immediately after “cunt-gate” but, in the end, the Giraffe Boards won that competition (to the extent that there was one.)
