The Lord will win!!

In the immortal words of Popeye the Sailorman, “I’ve had all I can stands, and I can’t stands no more!”

We have not persecuted you for being Christian, GodlyGuy; we see you parade your ignorance under the guise of enlightenment, and it sickens us. Do not be so arrogant as to liken yourself to Christian martyrs who suffered and died for their faith. You are merely a shallow gadfly, a nuisance that denigrates Christians by usurping their name. Our only sin is to tar all Christians with the same brush, when we really intend our criticism for you and your ilk alone. We need a new word for you Christian Trolls, a Chroll if you will, that’s what you are, you’re one of those Chroll people!

You Chrolls are the false prophets, in your clothes of sheep, which conceal not ferocious wolves, but merely yapping pups. (Matthew 7:15)

We know you Chrolls by your fruits; you are the thornbush which produces no grapes; you are the figless thistle ["]http://bible.gospelcom.net/cgi-bin/bible?language=English&version=NIV&search=&passage=Mark+7]]( [url="http://bible.gospelcom.net/cgi-bin/bible?language=English&version=NIV&search=&passage=Mark+7) (Mark 7:16)

GodlyGuy, you and your Chrollish friends profess to love the sinners of this world, yet what have you ever done to demonstrate this love? Have you ever fed the hungry, clothed the naked, given water to the thirsty, visiting the sick, or those in prison? (You LIAR!!) You Chrolls with your judgements and condemnations are nothing but the clanging gong (1 Corinthians 13:1)

You Chrolls protest when we castigate you for prophecying the time of His return; yet it is Jesus himself who rebukes you as evildoers. [(Mark"]http://bible.gospelcom.net/cgi-bin/bible?language=English&version=NIV&search=&passage=Mark+7](Mark]( [url=“http://bible.gospelcom.net/cgi-bin/bible?language=English&version=NIV&search=&passage=Mark+7) 7:22-23) He will certainly not return in the fall of 2000, and it is precisely because you have said it is so. [(Mark”]http://bible.gospelcom.net/cgi-bin/bible?language=English&version=NIV&search=&passage=Matthew+24](Mark]( [url="http://bible.gospelcom.net/cgi-bin/bible?language=English&version=NIV&search=&passage=Matthew+24) 24:36)

You Chrolls come in here, trumpeting your virtues and braying your prayers as though you care for the welfare of our souls, when is is actually your own place in Heaven you are seeking to ensure. Well, I have news for you; you have already received all the rewards you can ever expect. (Mark 6:1-7 )

You Chrolls think we hate you; we do not. We hate ignorance, not the ignoramus. You are welcome to participate in this forum, but only if it is with the intent of intellectual discourse. Anything else is a “tale told by a fool, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.” (Macbeth act 5, scene 5, William Shakespeare)

Get thee behind me, kid, you bother me. (1 Corinthians 13:11)

Doubt those who find it.” --Andre Gide

Aw, crap.

I’ve already said before, “I like this message board.” You people really make me think and sometimes, like now, examine myself. I want to thank you Thufferin Thuccotash for reminding me that I do not put my faith into action enough. I also want to thank you for giving me some great links.
I’m not going to spam your board with threads. I’ll try to be a good group member. I am learning a lot. I hope others are too. One of the things I’m learning is to practice my faith more instead of just talking about it.

OK everyone_ first off- Godlyguy is 13!!! He is very knowledgable in the bible-but, remember everyone, he is still 13. OK-try to go easy on him. Now I know he came in here himself and you all will say he deserves whatever he gets-but, again, he is 13! OK?

Next, we are all not just sitting around waiting for the rapture to whoever made the comment about come back next year so we can point out how it hasn’t happened! Well-you are right-it hasn’t ahppened-I don’t remember anyone saying it would-people do like to debate when it will happen-but, noone knows. The rapture is something that certain Christians believe in-different denoms have different interpretations of it-but, I assure you-we are not just stockpiling food in our huts waiting for the Lord to return! We work, have jobs, families, watch movies-all kinds of normal stuff just like u guys do-

OK-I am done-I just wanted to ask if GG here could get cut a little slack…

Now I KNOW I’ve been too overzealous, to be grouped with ARG. Remind me to check my zeal at the door next time ARG decides to call me a non-Christian.

Don’t worry about it, Nishi. We’re not ogres here (well, most of us aren’t). Once we know how young a kid is, we back off on the serious slams. Except perhaps the ones against his parents for allowing unsupervised use of the internet, of course.

Now as for converting him to skepticism, well… no warranty express or implied

Jesus saves… Gretzky grabs the rebound… He Scores!

That’s ok snark, many of us non-christoans are at the brunt of their attacks

Besides Buddha could whup jesus any day.

She caught your eye like one of those pointy hook latches that used to dangle from screen doors and would fly up whenever you banged the door open again.

Chrolls? I dunno…I kinda liked the Gansta’ Christianity remark.

Waste: My sentiments exactly. I came back to all this nonsense too, and it took me a little while to get a good idea of what exactly was going on.

Godly Guy: Just do me a favor. Please tell me you don’t actually believe that you have the slightest clue as to when Jesus is coming back. One of the dumbest things that anybody can do is to predict the date (be it month, or millenium)of Christ’s return. The second dumbest thing is to go public with it, and sell it off as truth.

Sure, Nishi. He can get a little slack. But not much. AFAIC, there is no age online, only words. And I value reason and coherence in posts. Why should I hold GodlyGuy to a lower standard than I hold myself or any other poster? I certainly wouldn’t cut John (Ai Yue Han, a SDMB regular in high school) any slack, but the diesn’t need any, as he is willing to listen and learn (not to mention that he was awfully articulate to begin with).

But as to the Rapture, you raise a valid point–many people debate the date, many people debate the method. But the vast majority of Christians do not actively believe in it at all. Rapture theology is a very recent development in Christianity; it’s no wonder it’s still hotly debated.

Which leads to the question (I guess it’s a thread hijacking, but oh well): For you (and any other Christian, especially LBMB folks), is a belief in an imminent Rapture a salvation issue? If I know Jesus as my savior, but do not agree with your interpretation of “End Times,” am I still a Christian?

-andros-

I don’t think I’ve said it already, but it’s nice to see you back, Adam.

I had a nephew that was sure the rapture was going to occur in something like 1988. I don’t remember exactly what year. There was a book written about it back then pinpointing the year. I tried to tell him that no one knew when the rapture was going to happen but he didn’t listen to me. I hope Godly Guy will think again about being so sure the Lord is coming for us this year. Someone made a wise statement to me once. He said live as if the Lord is coming for you today and make plans for the future as if you’re going to be here forever. Godly Guy stay close to the Lord and be ready for the Lord to come but also study and learn all you can to be prepared to live to be the fine man I know you’re going to be should the Lord tarry.

Sorry, Adam, typing with my brain turned off. IMHO, you’re a really nice guy.

Andros: Thanks.

On the rapture:

I would have to disagree with this. Then again, it depends on what you call Christian. Perhaps you could clarify it for me(us) Andros.

tracer:very funny
Snark:You know you would win in a religious mud-wrestling match with arg!
godlykid:where does it say in the Bible about the seasons not being able to be told apart?

ARG220:

If you define rapture as the Second Coming or as the Parousia, the vast majority of Christians do accept it in some fashion.

If you define the Rapture as an event in which a specific group of the elect will be instantaeously removed from the earth, to be followed by a period of Tribulation for those left behind, then a very loud minority of Christians actively believes it.

You will find no discussion of the second version of Rapture in the Catholic Church. You will not find any discussion of that event by Luther, Calvin, Murray, Knox, Wesley, or any other great Protestant leader prior to the very late 1800’s. It is a new belief and it is not held by the majority of Christians. (Even fervent Fundamantalists have bitter wars among themselves regarding a pre- or post-Tribulation Rapture. There is no single majority-held belief on the subject.)

Now, if someone wants to claim that only his or her little group of friends and fellow-believers are truly Christians and that they all believe that the second version of the Rapture is going to happen, then I will be forced to dismiss him or her as a loon. (Unless he or she is so silly in their response that I am compelled to return and ridicule them.)

Tom~

Not really getting into this… Someone asked if the rapture was a salvation issue… No, it’s not. GG, I think maybe you’re in over your head.

Thanks, Tom.

How do those religious mud-wrestling matches work? Do they pray before wrestling? Do you have to turn the other cheek when slapped?

I want to see the ARG-Snark mud-wrestling match! Can we put it on the same card with the Jesus-Satan one from South Park?

Adam, welcome back! I for one have missed you. And, to answer your question, you occasionally got Pharasaical about who was and wasn’t a Christian and what a Christian must and must not believe. But you listened, and apologized when called out on such stuff. Many of the LDMB people – and those who aren’t, please don’t be offended – refuse to see that someone can hold beliefs that differ from theirs (or not hold beliefs at all) and still be a decent person. Though you occasionally made that mistake, you never insisted on it when someone pointed out your error. God bless you, my brother.

Godly Guy, if you’re still around, check out the mutual respect and forbearance with which people here post – and remember what the fruits of the spirit are, and what St. John quoted Jesus as saying (in his Gospel) and had to say (in his first epistle) about how one knows a Christian. Then join in the fun.
