Hmph.
Places I’ve worked, they’d have the staff out there at 100 American with hand crank generators.
Yeah but then they’d have to be  horror of horrors  doin’ actual irk.
I don’t think you meant it this way but -------- it proved to me, a fairly non-believer in such things, that ghosts exist. I know I’ve told this before but --------- not the long version.
We bought back the house my FIL was raised in. It seemed like a good idea at the time but I have often regretted it since but thats another MMP. Anyway, shortly after we moved in I was doing some auto work that required a special “triple deep” socket set I got from Snap-on; tuning the torsion bars on an old trunk lid. Not having the most secure garage in the world, I keep all my good tools in the basement and only bring them out as needed and put them away as soon as I’m done with them.
I finished and took the set into the house and set them on the stove. I washed up, put a couple other things away and turned to get them and put them away ----- and they were gone. This is something larger than a schoolbook and maybe 5 pounds and I’m home alone. Where did I put the damn things? Went nuts for three days and reinventoried everything and not a damn sign. I mentioned something about this a couple weeks or something later and my FIL said “Maybe my Mom took them. She always got pissed at Dad for leaving tools in HER kitchen and would do the same thing to him when they were alive. Take his tools out of the kitchen and hide them”.
Yeah ---- right. Cue the rolling eyes and Outer Limits music here. And then maybe a year later I “lost” a battery charger the same damn way. Special one I got to use on my one old Harley. Set it on the stove, home alone, went to check for mail and never saw the damn thing again. This critter was 12x18x8 for freaking sake! What? Someone slipped in and stole that while passing up my wallet laying next to it? I still didn’t believe but it was the last tool I left in that kitchen.
OK ------ two years or so go by. Popsi (the FIL) and Muvver are on a weekend trip to Conneaut Lake and their car breaks down. No biggie; they are in the parking lot of the motel and its only a couple hours away. So I grab some tools and run up to see if I can help them out. Easy fix - broken belt on a K car. One fast run to the parts store and I can even be home before my wife gets home from work and I can start dinner like we had planned. I’ve had worse in my life.
I get home and go to start dinner and as I’m getting something out of the fridge I see my socket set sitting right in the middle of the stove where I had left it two years before. I am totally freaked. Happy (the damn things were so expensive I had never replaced them) but now I’m basically hearing the Outer Limits theme for real. And I got this feeling like “Since you took a day to help my baby out, you must be OK”.
I told my wife about all this and we had some laughs about it and all. She isn’t the skeptic I am so she was pretty accepting. That night while we’re laying in bed she suggests maybe I should ask for the battery charger too. So I just sort of laughed and said to the ceiling “The kids right Gramma. I got a new one but I did like a lot of the features on that old one. Be nice to have it again”.
Next morning my wife yells up the stairs “You are NOT going to believe this – get down here right now”. She had opened the pantry to get her lunch bag and there is my batter charger - right under it.
OK. Feel free to think I’m making all this up, that I’m a drunk and into heavy pharmaceuticals or anything else you want to think. But as far as I’m concerned I sharing my roof with some lady who died before I had any reason to know her. And something in it all makes me feel good. We’ve had other things (I’ll tell the long version of the stove some day) over the years and the creepy feeling is long gone. Just one of warmth and love and family. And like I said before, I’ve had worse in my life.
cool story, ruble. I believe you.
Lost lots of things over the years, but the longest gone and returned was Dagger, my 20-lb. tabby tomcat, who wandered off the farm and was presumed dead. I married and left home, Mom got rid of his stuff, life went on. Five years later, he wanders back, demanding some food. Mom called me and I went right over to visit – it was him. He stayed for a couple of days and wandered off again. It’s been about 20 years now; I don’t think he’s coming back again.
I lose things everyday. I tend to be forgetful.
I am supposed to be working on some paperwork for a career review with the personnel peeps in HQ. They are suddenly concerned that I am unhappy and considering leaving  of course they are  and not at all worried about the lack of bonus if another female at my level quits. No no all concerned for my welfare. They forget I did a stint in personnel/development.
Anyhoo I think I will return to my end of month reporting instead.
I’m done for today. I got a second coat on most of the stairwell - all of the parts that were reached from the platform. Then I installed the new light fixture (it works!!! ) and removed the platform. I started taking down the support structure and stripped out 2 screw heads, so quit - I’m tired and I didn’t need to deal with it. Maybe in the morning when I’m fresh.
Meanwhile, I’m showered and cooling down with some lemonade. Shortly, I will assume the knit position in front of the TV and veg the rest of the day away. Supper will be a salad with the 4 cherry 'maters that I saved from the evil bastard squirrel who stole the others. That is, if I feel like supper. I had leftover pizza for breakfast and lunch and it’s sitting in my gut like a lump. ugh.
**kopek **- creepy story!
And I forgot to share my favorite quote about lost items:
Of all the things that I have lost, I miss my mind the most.
How bout if we believe your story and also believe you’re a drunk and into heavy pharmaceuticals? Oh, like you believed for one minute I’d pass that up!
Howdy Y’all! I’s home! YAY!!! Tomorrow is my Firday. Even more Y AY!!!
Dindin tonight shall be ribs leftover from Sattidy, N.O.T. sallit and corn sallit. Easy Peasy!
limey you made me think of “dog parties.” My aunt and uncle who owned a farm had an assortment of mongrel dogs that lived in the yard. Every once in a while two, three or a hunnert of ‘em (really, a lot of mongrel dogs. I never exactly knew just how many) would wonder off for a couple of weeks and come back all scraggly and beat up. My uncle always said they were off havin’ a “dog party.” Kinda like they were all out partyin’ in bars and gettin’ into fights and such over lady dogs.
The terms are mutually exclusive.
Ruble, maybe your wife is playing tricks on you Nah, she wouldn’t hide something for two years…would she?
Moral of the story: KEEP YOUR TOOLS OUT OF THE KITCHEN!!
I can’t think of any lost and found stories right now. Just lost and lost ones.
Like…A couple months ago, I somehow lost my keychain. Used it last on the mailbox. It was the only key we had. Wouldn’t care, except that I’m unemployed, so paperwork is coming to the house fairly often.
Went to the post office, got a new set of keys, they replaced the box, no biggie.
Except that I LOST THE KEYS ON THE WAY HOME. Seriously have no idea where they would have gone, I live a mile from the P.O. and they went into my purse. Got home, no keys. No holes in the purse, they weren’t in the car, they aren’t in the lining…WTF?
Go back to the P.O the next day and repeat the box change-out. Keys made it home. Problem is they wouldn’t open the box. I thought maybe it’d take them longer than they thought to replace it. Finally called them, they said they had a faulty box, come in and we’ll give you keys to the NEW box. Which…also didn’t work. Finally a box worked, I got the keys, yay!!
It’s been a month now, and I’ve lost 2 of the 3 keys I was given. Again, no idea how or where.
We’re moving next month, and I am so looking forward to having my own mailbox, no key required. :smack:
MENTAL NOTE:
Never, ever, ever, never lend Tao my keys.
Dindin was good. Tomorrow night is sallit with sliced smoked chikin. I also have to make cheese thangs for the Fourth of July. Apparently I promised in some fit of [del]drukessne[/del] generosity a couple weeks ago but I forgot until OYKW reminded I promised JDD I’d make cheese thangs to take up to his folks.
Now I have lemonade. Life is good.
Man, I’ve got your creepy feeling right here.
This story sort of reminded me… Ruble, have you ever been to the Bonnet Tavern in Bedford? It’s supposedly haunted. We’re going to be spending the night there and it should be interesting because one of us (me, me, me!!!) is creeped out by that kind of stuff.
This reminds me of two stories. At one point I lost my P.O. Box keys. Except at my post office it takes 6 weeks to order a new key. :dubious: Somewhere within those 6 weeks the key reappeared underneath the driver’s seat of my car.
And, I have also been able to lose something directly on the way home from picking it up. I had 7 tablecloths dry cleaned and one of them (incidentally, the only one that was a different color) didn’t make it in the house. They went straight in the van from the cleaners and straight out of the van at home. I never have found it.
Speaking of tablecloths and work, I’d better get back to it. Big show this weekend.
Oh, and congrats, phoukaroo! :):) More to you later when I have a moment to breathe.
That’s what I thought. “Leave this shit on my stove?!?! I’ll fucking hide it!”
She wouldn’t have to pay for lunch for a week telling her pals about it.
I checked in with a friend in suburban MD today - she and her fiance were okay didn’t lose power but so many others did! Keeping them all in my thoughts and praying that power is restored ASAP.
You’ve been very busy, 2Gig, I can’t imagine how stressed out you must feel! Glad you’re getting all the overtime, but feel sad that you’ve had so much crap to deal with.
NM continues hot, although the forecasters are daring to suggest that “monsoon” season may be here. LOL We’ve had dry thunderstorms the past few days - well, mostly dry, with just a hint of rain! Some places did get deluges, though, and in the desert that stuff doesn’t get absorbed, hence the name monsoon.
My daughter and I went to Walmart today for grocery and some regular shopping - my gosh, that store is HUGE. We got a whole lot of stuff, and it’s mostly less expensive than a grocery store and looks pretty fresh as well. Stocked up on fresh fruits and veggies, good for you stuff. Oh yes, I did get a few goodies.
Tomorrow is back to the pool, than BBQ on the 4th! Whee! Hope everyone is doing well and will have a good holiday.
Lost and found … well, my Dad is looking for a book he thought that he’d given me … I don’t think he did give it to me. If you can’t make sense of that, don’t worry, neither could I!! My Dad sometimes will give you something, then ask for it back 2 months later.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. YAWN 'Tis 76 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of only 94! Well, BRRRRRRR! Also, maybe a fifty percent chance of rain.
Herbs at the risk of the villagers comin’ after me with pitchforks and torches I will say I like the produce at  Wally*World. It does always look pretty fresh and has good prices. I don’t shop there much because, well, that means I have to deal with  Walmartians  and they scare me.
Ok, that’s all I got for now. I need more caffiene and rumbly tummy wants to be fed. Then, alas, irk purtification must commence. However, this is my Firday. YAY!!!
Happy my Firday to me!
Happy Tuesday to the rest of y’all!

'Tis a sad day. The kids go home to Indiannoplace this afternoon.
You say that like it’s a bad thing.;)
swampy, Nelly the beagle always migrated in October. Guess she was going to one of those dog parties.
I lost a Blackberry a couple of months ago.:smack: and my mind, at some point. Off to irk, then to my “just friend”:)'s house to do her dishes, and feed the cats.
I am irk but having a short day today. Yesterday I started off an ear infection and it’s not magically disappeared yet, so I am off to see the quack this afternoon. Last time I had a similar infection, I ended up spending three days in hospital having IV anti-biotics. Hopefully this time I’m early enough to avoid all that fiasco.
I slept in today, sorta… It was nearly 8 when I got up, but you have to subtract the hour between 2 and 3 when I was dealing with a bit of internal distress. Just FYI, there’s really nothing on basic cable between 2 and 3 in the morning. I tried Netflix, thinking I’d watch a stand-up comic, but I fail to see the hilarity of saying “fuck” every third or fourth word. Seriously - I saw a comedian tell the same joke in 2 venues - one was a DVD and the other was for a televised special. The only difference between the two was the profanity on the DVD, and honestly, the version for the special was actually funnier to me because he used a rather silly term in place of the profanity, and it really tickled me. I dunno, maybe it’s because I keep visualizing all them cussers on my lawn just daring me to chase 'em…
Anyway, I got up at 8, donned my last set of painting grubbies, and immediately went to the stairwell to remove the support structure that defeated me yesterday. When **FCD **called last night, he told me I should have been using a square drive bit instead of the Phillips bit - DUH! I knew that, but I wasn’t thinking. So anyway, with the square drive, I got all the boards down - I was even able to remove the 2 screws I stripped out yesterday. So yay! Then I slapped some spackling compound on the holes and while it’s drying, I’m having some breakfast.
Before I get back into the stairwell, I’m going to clean the disaster that is my kitchen. I didn’t eat supper last night, so I didn’t venture in there, forgetting about the accumulated dishes and other mess. Plus the breakfast bar is where I’ve been piling assorted stuff I’m using for this project - I can get a lot of that put away now, so I shall before I start painting again. Not a lot to be painted today - less than half of what I had to do yesterday. I do have to replace one more light fixture, but since I’ve done that once, this second one should be really easy.
And the guy who looked at our boat last week never did call back, so we’ve taken it off the market for now. We’re going to gut it and redo the interior, then maybe in the spring, we’ll pull the mast and paint it. And we’ll install some lights in the cabin - the old ones haven’t worked forever and we had been taking some small lamps when we went cruising. This time, we’ll do it right. Anyway, according to the broker, if we did all that (tho he didn’t mention the mast) we could probably get $10-15K more for it - he said cosmetics sell more boats than systems. Obviously he’s never sold to engineers, but I know he’s right - if the outside looks good, most folks don’t care what’s behind door #3. Anyway, **FCD **is all excited - he loves working on the boat. So we’ll spend our loooooong holiday weekend tearing down fabric and other nasty stuff and planning how to put it all back together.
Oh yeah, and speaking of the bastard squirrel in my back yard - he’s not above stealing green cherry 'maters! I was out there watering this morning, and I was missing at least 3 little greenies that I know were there yesterday! Stoopit squirrel. On the other hand, at least 2 or 3 cherry 'maters and 1 or 2 big-ass 'maters are getting more red than green, so I’ll be harvesting soon. I’m trying to decide if growing my own makes more sense than driving a few miles to the nearest Amish produce stand… I have to go there for 'lopes and cukes anyway.
Whatever. Happy Tuesday. Stay cool, fools!!
Blurf.
Got some writing done last night, which made me happy. Didn’t get any cleaning done, which needs to be done before my parents come Wednesday morning.
And I was bad and went to sushi for dinner last night.
