You people in the MA have all the fun.
Any outdoor dopers in Georgia?

Cool beans, Arky! The more the merrier.
Yep, I expect mud, given the amount of snow we’ve had. My front lawn squishes under my feet, and probably will for awhile. I’m hoping that another week will give things a chance to dry a bit. But if not, what’s a little mud between the boot treads?
I am also in for the 22nd- I printed out the directions 'n everything!
April 5th would be fun, but there’s some MAD paintball in the works for that Saturday (it’s in MPSIMS if anybody’s interested) and I’m working on being there.
What time should we try to make the hike? I’ll be hoping for nice weather!..and petcat haiku is always appropriate!
Great!
How about a midmorning start - 10 or 10:30? That way, nobody has to get out of bed at the crack of dawn to join in.
I’m thinking, bring along some light munchies for on the trail, then finish up in time to repair to somewhere with beer and reasonably-priced food for a late lunch.
Yippee! I was hoping we’d do Billy Goat first, and I’m free on the 22nd.
Don’t worry Theios, I’ll be puffing and panting right next to you. I’m out of shape from my long winters nap, and will be taking this verrrrrry slooooowly.
Time sounds good. Bring a power bar and plenty of water, and a few bucks for a sandwich and a cold drink afterwards.
I am right in the middle of a major schedule revision, so I am not totally sure I will be available on the 22nd, but if I am, it sounds good to me! Unfortunately, Bluesman will not be able to join us, but I will try to drag along as many Blueskids as I can.
Anita - glad you can make it! FWIW, I do plan to take things s-l-o-w. I’ve gotten very little exercise since it first snowed back in early December, and I’m getting to the age where I’ve got to ease into things like this. This ‘getting old’ stuff absolutely bites.
Lucretia - we’d love to have you (and any combination of Blueskids) if you can make it! And I understand about Bluesman; I figure they’re keeping him pretty busy right now.
So, barring typhoons and whatnot, this thing is on for a week from tomorrow. Time to dig out those hiking boots from wherever they’ve gotten buried over the winter, so you know you can find 'em next weekend!
Forecast for Saturday: partly cloudy, highs in the low to mid 60s.
Where to meet? Somebody gonna hold up a “Dopers congregate here” sign?
There’s parking at the park (at the Great Falls Tavern Visitor Center), but it’s $5 per car, and that seems a bit steep.
There should be a shopping center or something nearby where we can meet and carpool from there. Let me see what I can find out.
Ah, found it.
There’s free parking across the road from the Old Angler’s Inn (at lower right of this map. Driving directions are here.
How about we meet at 10am, and try to be on the trail by 10:15? I’m told the lot can fill up. If it does, park in the Angler’s Inn parking lot across the road and walk over.
Who’s still on for Saturday? If we know you’re coming, we’re more likely to wait for you if you’re running late.
For An Arky and anyone else who comes who hasn’t met any of us before, my pic is here. I drive a dark blue Accord, which I’ll be hanging out next to until other people show up.
Thought I’d bump this for those peeking in during lunchtime.
Alas, it looks as though I’m not going to make this one. You guys have fun, I’ll see you next time!
I’m still in. Weather report I heard this morning said it was supposed to be near 70 and beautiful this weekend! Yay!
I’m also in, although I’ll probably be suffering terribly- I have promised to be a Friday night good sport in celebration of my roomates MA Comps. Please, wish me some common sense and self control!
TeleTronOne, that’s what Weather Underground is saying, too. I can’t believe we’re getting two good weekends in a row, in mid-March - that just never happens!
Lucretia, sorry you won’t make it, but we’ll look forward to having your company on the next one.
panache, for me the key has always been: avoid dehydration. If you just keep drinking enough water or soft drinks to balance out the alcohol, you should wake up tired but otherwise OK on Saturday morning. Good luck, and see you Saturday!
I’m still game for the hike. I’m researching geocaches in the area right now. Hopefully, we’ll get a chance to bag a cache on our little outting.
I’ll be the woman driving a very yellow Jeep Cherokee and fiddling with a GPS.
I’m there. Good weather, too! Yeeehah!
Oh yeah, I’m the 6 foot redhead driving either a green VW or a gray Dodge.
Count me in. I’ll be driving a maroon Camry with a roof rack.
