The MAD Outdoors Club

Cool - see y’all Saturday at 10! Trail should be a bit muddy after all this rain, so be sure and wear boots or shoes with good tread.

I’m pretty jealous.

You should be - we’re gonna have a fun time, and you won’t be there!

So pick a weekend for hiking that stretch of the AT up your way, already.

For this one, it looks like we’ve got me, An Arky, panache, TeleTronOne, Theios, Emilio Lizardo, and I think Anita Vacation. If anyone else thinks they’ll be there, say sumpthin’ so we know to look for you in the morning.

Oh yeah?

Well I’ll be at my MOTHER-IN-LAWS!!! Top THAT, bucko!

So is anyone up for heading to the Great Falls Tavern (or similar) for some post-hike relaxation and refreshment?

I think post-hike snacking is in order- I don’t know any places but will gladly follow anybody who knows better. Now if I could only get those be-dratted directions to print!

PS For those who haven’t met me, I’ll be the lady with long dark hair driving a black Acura. Don’t leave without me

Post-hike beer and food are definitely in order! My sister (who lives in Rockville) recommended a place along MacArthur Blvd; unfortunately, its name is sitting on a scrap of paper in my office, and she’s not at home tonight. Well, she’s an early riser; I may hear from her in the a.m. before heading out. If not, the Great Falls Tavern would certainly do.

And don’t worry, panache, I should be able to recognize you by now! Seeya there.

Jonathan, I don’t think I’ll even try.

Wow, Anita is participating in MAD events when I don’t even live there any more! My big sister is all growed up. sniff

Oh, man, I gotta bag. I’ve been looking for a car for my wife. Good news: Found one to go look at. Bad news: It’s this morning.
So, I won’t be able to make it THIS TIME, but I’m definitely interested in future treks. Somebody drink an extra cold one for me…

The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and they’re forecasting a high in the upper 60s. It should be a great day for a hike.

Sorry you can’t make it, Arky, but I know how it is: if that car’s any good, you want to see it today, before it disappears. See you next time!

Geobabe - yup, she’s a real Doper now. We likes her.

Aw shucks, RT.
I’m on my way out the door. See you soon.

That was fun!!

I’m especially pleased to know that I made such an important contribution to the team this morning. Anytime someone needed to rest, they would suggest that they just wanted to “wait for Anita to catch up”. I’m glad to help!

I don’t think I even came close to having a heart attack, but boy, I expect to be sore tomorrow. Any suggestions how we can track down the comedian who marked that trail?

RT, thanks again for sitting on that rock listening to my life story, even if it was just another excuse to rest.

I really enjoyed meeting everybody. Too bad you couldn’t make it Arky we had a blast, and had a $5 beer for you.

Wish I could have been there, y’all. Sounds like fun. Got the car, though, so at least I accomplished something!

Well, I gotta haver a beer myself, now!

[schpzzz…gulpgulpgulpgulpGULP…uurrrp!]

I think I got a sort of nasty sunburn - I guess I’ll have to remember that next time

And, just for the record the death toll for this DopeFest was an astonishing zero!

I had a great time guys. Sorry I couldn’t stay for a well deserved beer. But I did manage to get the gf home in time so she could get to work. She was very glad that she came out with us. It was such a beautiful day.

We need to do this more often. I have every other weekend off. So if you plan it, I’ll come.

And here I figured GF handled that planning.

I had a great time (despite also having a nasty sunburn), was glad everyone who came along, did (note careful wording choice :D), and I definitely want to do a bunch more of these, this spring and summer. I’ll have to think about where we might go next - and if anyone else has ideas, please chime in!

Ditto on the sunburn. Nevertheless, I had an excellent time and am eagerly awaiting the next trip!

Well, I guess I’ve discovered a benefit to being too winded to climb out to those overlooks: I don’t have a sunburn!

RT, the beach campground I was referring to is the Breezy Point Beach and Campground. It’s so close to your place it could bite you! This would be a great MAD Outdoor Club getaway for families with members who have trouble with rocks (like me).
:::Oh darn, Yeti is home and is nowl kicking me out of his room:::

:::pout:::

Anita, I’ve been there. It’s hard for a beach to be depressing, but Breezy Point Beach came close - it was kinda seedy and rundown-looking when I visited it a few years back, when I was first in the area. Maybe they’ve spruced it up; I hope so. And considering that admission is $5 for adults ($3 for kids), and no reduced rate for county residents, I haven’t been in a big hurry to go back.

North Beach is free for locals, with a modest charge for non-locals; and Brownie Beach is free, period. There’s no picnic tables, but OTOH they each have a boardwalk.
