Hiya! I posted some rumblings about this in the current MMP , but I’m going to be a little more specific here. I’m going to be hanging out in DC for a conference later this month.
I’ll be flying in on the 23rd, but by the time I get in and checked in at the hotel, I’m not sure any of youse would want to be out on a weeknight. I’m free on Thursday the 24th and Friday the 25th after 5:00 pm if anyone wants to have dinner, coffee, or wants to do anything else. I fly out early enough on Saturday morning that I suspect you all won’t want to have anything to do with me at that ungodly hour.
So, who’s in the area? Who’s available? Anyone?
Oh, and is there something going on that weekend? It was an absolute nightmare trying to find a place to stay. The conference is at L’Enfant Plaza, and the hotel hosting it gave my agent a list of nearby hotels - ALL FULL. I ended up not too far away in Arlington, VA but it was one of the few places open. What’s the deal? Anything in particular?
Maybe a goup of MADs would like to get together for dinner Thursday or Friday night? Perhaps in Arlington (tons of great restaurants in the Clarendon area).
By the way, I have no idea what is going on that weekend. Curious…
As I mentioned in the MMP, I may be able to make it Friday evening. I don’t know any places in the DC area to recommend, so I’ll have to leave that planning to someone else. But if no one else bites, you can come to my house for dinner and conversation!
ultrafilter, you wouldn’t necessarily need to be anywhere at 5. That just happens to be when the conference ends for the day.
I’m not opposed to actually leaving the heart of DC if it makes things more convenient for whoever’s available. Anyone have ideas of a good place to go for some eats?
Where’s everyone from? I know where Ginger lives, but that’s pretty much it. That could help determine where a good meeting place might be. If it winds up in Maryland, I might even be able to do Thursday, but crossing the Wilson Bridge will put it out of reach for me that night, tho Friday would be doable.
I’m good for wherever. I’d rather not cross the accursed Wilson, or get anywhere near DC at rush ‘hour’, but I know that’s not a possibility. I am lucky enough to be a free agent (read: unemployed) and can head down earlier if need be.
I know you’re probably just enveloped by certain other threads (:)) but any recommendations or whatever are helpful.
Even for meal times if we can’t get together, is there anything in DC/Arlington that’s not to be missed? I’m a sucker for regional things I can’t always get out here.
I’m thinkin’ maybe a smallish get-together Thursday night, for those who can get into town on a weekday evening, and something somewhat larger on Friday.
For Thursday, how about whichever of the Taqueria Poblano locations is closer to scout1222’s hotel? (Assuming you like good Mex, scout. Maybe you should fill us in on your culinary preferences.)
Im in. I work in McLean so im close to DC or Arlington. I would recommend that with traffic being what it is around here we think of meeting after 7, would make life easier for most I think.
I live less than 20 miles from Mexico. I am ALL ABOUT Mexican food, mi amigo! As for other food, I don’t much care for seafood, and I rarely eat beef, but everything else I’m sure I’ll be able to find something I like.
Based on where I’m staying, both locations of that restaurant are less than 10 miles away. The Arlington location was 7.5 miles away, and the Alexandria location was 4.5 miles away. (I’m staying on Jefferson Davis Highway basically at the Crystal City Metro stop - well, not IN the train station, but ya know!)
