The Magicians: Season 4 (open spoilers after airing)

Anyone here watch this show?

I wonder how quickly they’ll get the band back together.

Loved Margo getting thrown back into Filory without getting her memory back.

Crap, hope I’m still recording this.

I’ll have to wait until it hits Netflix (finished season 3 a few weeks ago)

Brian

Her name’s Janet! She’s a fashion editor.

I like how her name and circumstances have changed, but her personality seems to be mostly intact.

I watch, but usually wait until the season has aired to watch it. Thought Season 3 was the best by a LOT.

I’m watching

We’re watching -

Watching! (I also agree that Season 3 was the best.)

Julia can’t be killed! I take it this means she’s still a goddess despite losing most (all?) of her powers.

I’m somewhat surprised that they were able to break the enchantment so quickly. I thought they’d be spending half the season bumbling around, trying to figure out who they were. What’s the Monster’s intention for them now?

I’m really starting to like creepy Eliot but Margo will always be the best character in the show.

“You nut sacked out didn’t you?”

Are the events of this season covered in the book(s)?

I tried to poke around for a spoiler of how the monster is finally dealt with, but couldn’t find it. (Yeah, I like spoilers. I’ll often read the very end of a book early on just to know how it ends before going back and reading the rest.)

If someone knows, send me a PM.

This season is completely divorced from the books. The whole Library comes at the last second when they are about to turn magic back on and puts a siphon on it (and the resulting memory wipe) was never in the books.

Well, after they learned last season that some of those people can really sing, we got last week’s semi-musical episode.

Which rocked.

I’ve seen about 5 of this seasons and the show falls into a pattern:

First couple episodes each year are only OK. Dealing with fallout from previous season.

Then, the show hits its groove. This year, the Josh episode where he has a magical STD was absolutely hilarious. It really got the season back on track. Elliot’s episode(the last I’ve seen so far) where he goes through various memories to try to access his body again was also a lot of fun.

That season finale was… Amazing.

They hit all of the right notes and ended one story in a very beautiful and loving way.

It really did end very well. Amazing is a good word for it.

This show’s last 6 episodes were so damn good, the writers have really hit their stride.

Holy cow, it was so great, you could convince me that was the series finale, not just a season finale. They must have wondered if they were renewed and decided to make a potential finale.

It was so perfect.

The show has a problem in that the main characters are aging out and with season five , it starts to possibly get repetitive with the monster of the season arc’s. They seem to be dipping into the books when they need a filler episode, but for the most part the show goes where the show runners want them to go.

So in my opinion, I believe the show needs a reboot with new characters and promote the older characters into positions at the library and brakebills. Its coming up on five years and one has to wonder how many years does the cast want to have invested in this show before moving on.

That’s nuts. They’ve only been doing this for four seasons. This isn’t like Supernatural dragging on for what, 15 seasons or Friends lasting 10 seasons.

Obviously Brakebills is less of a focus, just as it was this last year, when none of them were actual students anymore, although Dean Fogg was still a major recurring character and ally.

We’ve already got one potential enemy for next season, the Dark King of Fillory. I think after potential world ending enemies the last few seasons, it is time to dial it back slightly for a season. The ever bigger and badder enemies bit doesn’t pay off for too long and the Monster and his sister were kinda the top end.

We’ve got Alice Quinn taking over the library and learning the ropes there.

Elliot, Margo and Josh dealing with the Dark King.

Kady is pretty much the Top Hedge at this point.

Julia is mortal again with magic. I’d like to see her regain her godhood.

Fen and Tick are out of the show now too, I would guess.
