The Major League Baseball Playoff and Predictions Thread

Man, the Rockies’ pitching really sucks after 8 days off!

Wow, even Gagne pitched well. This is a pretty good start.

Well, regardless of which side you were rooting for, that sure got boring in a hurry.

I wound up feeling sorry for the Rockies’ starter – man, what a hammering!

It’s only fair that the other Rockies pitchers get equally hammered in the next three games, so he won’t feel singled out.

The Sox are a scary team-I root for them and they scare me.

Still, anything can happen in the next 6 games.

No, it didn’t.

I’m in Seattle. I’m not really rooting for either side. But my girlfriend lives in Boston, and was watching the game at her parents’ house; we were on the phone together for probably six innings out of the nine. And despite their rabid Red Sox fandom, their attention was definitely drifting by the end of the fifth inning, after Morales couldn’t get the third out and Speier couldn’t even get one. By inning seven, we were talking about botany, for crying out loud, and my girlfriend’s mother had wandered off to google the relationship between cucumbers and watermelons.

Your mileage evidently varied, but for them, just because it was a thumping, that doesn’t make it an interesting thumping.

Besides, they want the Series to go six games so they can win it at home.

Plenty to go around. Brought in with the bases loaded and two out, and give up three straight walks. That’s just gotta hurt.

I turned it off and went in to my bedroom after the fourth inning, where I promptly fell asleep (at around 8 pm local time), so I guess you can count me among the bored. But I wouldn’t call it prompt, since the game had already been going for about 2 hours when I hit that button. Blech! Bad game.

Wow, the dessicated corpse of James Taylor still has a really nice voice.

No, Joe, the White Sox are not in the World series.

I thought I heard that.

In contrast to last night, this has become a real nail-biter (one down in the top of the eighth as I type this). Either way this goes it’s been a great game.

OK, this was a fun game to watch, different then last night, certainly.

How about that pick off to end the 8th?!

Oh, yes, a thing of beauty.

Yes. That was an exciting game. And that pickoff was an instant classic moment.

OK, so I know that every single one of you out there enjoyed FOX’s exhaustive coverage of that thing the guys in the Red Sox bullpen were doing. Like me, I’m sure you savored every moment of that feast for the senses. But I can’t help but wonder: what will the Rockies’ bullpen have to do to receive an equal amount of camera/microphone time on the FOX broadcast? I’ve collected a list of possibilities:

a) conga line
b) Riverdance
c) lighting their farts with blowtorches
d) human sacrifice
e) drag races in Nitro-Burning Funny Cars
f) raising the dead
g) “Porgy and Bess”
h) d and f together (sequential two act performance)
i) all of the above
j) none of the above
k) trick question: they’ll never get that much attention, BECAUSE THEY’RE NOT BOSTON

I eagerly await your input.

As for the game, not bad, though still too damn long. (I can’t believe I’m saying that, after years of dismissing that complaint, but honestly, even a lifelong ball fan like me can’t keep his attention riveted for all of a 3:30 2-1 game.) Rockies pitchers showed up tonight; the only problem is their bats look sluggish. They might have them revved up again in time for game 3. I don’t think it’s as hopeless for Colorado as it might currently look. If they grab game 3, I’ll start liking their chances again.

It’s been done. That said, the Rockies are, by and large, a fairly good-looking team, and I wouldn’t be mad at them if they decided to do their own pants-off dance-off.

The coverage is a bummer, but that’s pretty much just the way it works. Boston has suffered Fox’s slights as well, in the past. Hell, even now, Tim McCarver keeps figuring out ways to fellate Derek Jeter in a series he’s two rounds removed from (as mentioned in this thread).

I fell asleep halfway through last night’s game, and I’m bummed. Although the score was at 2-1 when I dozed off, it seems that I missed a much better game than Wednesday’s. I sincerely hope that the Rockies can pull out at least one in Denver, because I’d like to see this come back to Fenway.

If they would cut the pregame BS a lot more of us that get up early could watch the games. It was so nice in the first round to see the games start at 7:00 but good heavens those 8:30 starts are hell for first shift workers in the eastern time zone.

Amen. Last night it was a tight game, 2-1, sixth inning, and it was 11:30. I finally had to say “to hell with this” and went to bed. I love baseball, but Christ, I have a job, too, and it’s a weeknight. I realize it was just 8:30 on the West Coast, but Jesus.
