The Mentalist- question about relationships

What if Grace gave him the list? Patrick is drawn back in when Rigsby is found dead and Grace is missing, and the final reveal is that Grace was either a mole the whole time or was turned along the way.

I’ve paid so little attention to the ‘arc’ stories…

So, the real Red John was … Sherrif? They never said the character’s name during the episode.

Anyway, who was he? His job? Why/how did he become a suspect?

I don’t normally watch the Mentalist - I’ve seen one or two reruns on TNT - but I happened to catch the last 20 minutes of this. I can’t comment at all about the arc or whatnot, but I will say I thought it was surprisingly gutsy of them to have the main character, who is supposed to be the good (if roguish) guy strangle a helpless bad guy, and show it happening. That’s not the kind of thing you would usually see on CBS programming.

Jane had not shared the list with anyone when RJ called at the end of last season and read it off to him.

Grace would not be the mole, if for no other reason than her experience with her first fiance.

Fight Club?

Did you guys catch the name of next week’s episode? It’s “My Blue Heaven”. I find that reassuring.

Re: Patrick not wanting to know how Red John got the list. Maybe because he didn’t want Red John to pull a “neener neener I know something you don’t know.” Cuz there is always glee is showing that you are smarter. Patrck didn’t want Red John to take any pleasure in giving Patrick the answer.

And why wouldn’t Red John say he was sorry he killed Patrick’s wife and daughter? I figured he was lying to try to save himself and thought Patrick would take pity on him. But why would he be afraid to die? Psychotic serial killers usually don’t care abouty dying (not that I know any, just what I’ve seen on TV and the movies). They seem to have the “come and get me, copper” attitude.

I have spent WAAAAYY too much time thinking about this.

The show seems to be on the bubble in terms of renewal. At least that’s the most optimistic view. So we might be looking at the wind down of the series. I hope not. Another way to look at it is that this will be an attempt to breathe new life into the series. The Red John arc was certainly getting old and it was definitely time for a change.

In terms of how Red John knew who was on the list, I don’t know if anyone else caught this, but as he was dying, RJ muttered something about being psychic. The show has dealt with that theme a couple of times before and made some suggestions that psychic phenomena might be real so that fits with previous story lines. However they’ve always been careful to just suggest this rather than deal with the issue head on.

RJ wanted to live - the last piece of leverage he had was ‘how’ he got the list - and possibly ratting out the rest of the ‘blake association’ (although he said he ‘was’ the blake association…) -

I thought he blinked that he WAS sorry… the blinks were hard to follow,

Yes. I think it was 2 blinks for yes and one for no. I’m pretty sure I counted 2 for both questions.

That’s the way it looked to me.

here as well -

I phrased that wrong. It should have been “Red John would say he was sorry he killed Jane’s wife and daughter because he wanted to live.” He had no reason to say he wasn’t sorry. Kind of a double negative…

I think we need The Cho Show.

IOW he said he was sorry, but no way of knowing if he meant it.

Ditto on the Cho Show. As long as he keeps wearing those shirts that are a size too small in the sleeves.

(Watching now)

Looks like Jane moved in down the beach from Mike Franks.

I didn’t trust that woman in Mexico, and I never trusted the FBI guy. Jane should have SHOT that asshole for shooting the dog. Grrr.

I’m now through with this program. Cho being on the scene is no compensation.

I saw it coming–they went for the obvious swerve, and a dialogue clue pointed to it. But I think they missed a bet not having the lady he met on the unnamed island just be a friend/love interest of his from here on instead ofreplacement Lisbon.Nice that the FBI are ahead of Jane instead of him being ahead of everyone.

That remains to be seen.

Watched it last night. It was definitely a transition episode so I will give it a few more weeks. Totally agree that the old Jane would have figured out the woman on the beach was more than just a pretty face. It would appear that Jane and Lisbon will be working as a team and hopefully there will be more Cho who was even more deadpan than usual (except for the teeny smirk as Jane went into the FBI room). And I still don’t trust Abbott. I kept expecting the silent guy at the beach bar (Roger?) to reveal that he has been secretly guarding Jane and to tell Jane not to trust the FBI.

Grace looks harrible with bangs.
