The MMP is here

Mmmmms, your Dad is in my thoughts and prayers.

Finally heard that my cousin is home from the hospital, thanks for the prayers for him; I don’t think they operated on him, though.

Glad to know that Ophe is okay, BooFae–that was indeed a weird dream!

One of my brothers broke a wrist yesterday - and it’s the same wrist that he broke on a fall from the monkey bars when he was in 3rd grade, on Nov. 21, 1963 (the day before President Kennedy’s assassination) - because someone was behind him on a skateboard, lost control of the 'board, which slid under brother’s feet and knocked him down. He realized the wrist was broken when it swelled up and continued to hurt, so he went to the ER yesterday evening. To an ortho and then a cast later this week. Freak accidents.

I had a sugar-free chocolate pudding today and it was not bad. LOL I guess I don’t mind the sugar-free as long as it’s chocolate. I seem to be doing okay on the metformin (knock on wood three times)–it’s only made me feel a bit sick to my stomach. I also have a slight diabetic ulcer on my left shin, and now I’m taking cipro (strong antibiotic) for that. I took today off to let the medicines work and be off that leg. It was worse than I thought. :frowning:

Ah well. Rosie’s sig to any and all who need or want it. Hump day tomorrow!

Tuesday Evening LOL

I just started to teach myself knitting a few weeks ago. It’s taken a while, but I am almost halfway through a decent looking scarf (the first one I started knitting looked moth eaten so I unravelled it and started over again, lol). It’s a soothing activity but I suck at counting stuff so I can’t really watch TV while I’m doing it - I’ve resorted to podcasts as my knitting activity.

I might try knitting a small blanket next. If I get good enough at it I’ll buy some nice yarn and knit scarves for my parents for Christmas. I’ve always wanted to buy them cashmere scarves but the price has always been prohibitive.

Hugs and good thoughts and prayers for mmmmmmmmmm.

Knitting is good, relaxing fun, I think, Haze. You know about ravelry and Knitting Help, right? Tons of free patterns on ravelry (and forums and a place to track what you’re working on) and lots of good videos (and forums, too) on Knitting Help.

Ran some errands and have relaxed my way into the evening. Should probably be crawling into bed now.

Is it Firday yet?

GT

Like I explained to my friends at the pig picking tonight, I moved to Kinston when I fist came to N.C., so I like the vinegar based sauce, not the heretic sauce.

I just had to pay for the privilege of submitting my own damn thesis. Is the state that broke they can’t cover that cost? I expect to see that added to my state tax refund (which still hasn’t arrived. I had my taxes in on April 13th

Gee, I got my a week ago.

BooFae, I once dreamed Lucrezia D. Hellcatt was chewing a hole in my skull, but when woke up screaming, I found out it was true.

I am now on vacation. The beach trip fell through, but a friend who has a pool needs a house sitter, so it’s almost as good, and a darn sight cheaper.

Sticky Buns, I keep getting friend requests from strippers om Facebook.:cool:

Facebook keeps throwing me lesbian-related ads. Scottish Darling and I figure it’s because of our relationship status.

gt, I skimmed old knitting threads and found both those sites recommended. Knittinghelp in particular has been very useful.

Thanks everyone - I just checked in for my flight and the last update from my mam was that he was resting and on lots of morphine. She is calling me at 1AM ish my time to give me the update after the doctors do their rounds. I get home Thursday evening UK time. :frowning:

Lately I’ve been to several big shopping locations which had defibrilators. I strongly suspect that if one becomes needed there won’t be anybody in the facilities who knows how to use one (the big grey-suited security guard at one furniture store might have, dude looked more efficient all by himself than your average urban police corps all together) and people will either just run around like chicken with their heads cut off or manage to break the deceased’s ribs without really doing anything. That’s if they don’t shock themselves.

I’m having a craving for MnM’s, but not one for ems. But I do something for ems, more hugs: {{{{{{{{{{}}}}}}}}}}

Welp…

looks like no Dissertation for me, unless the information we were sent was wrong and the published list is of those who did NOT make the cut and not of those who did (which wouldn’t surprise me, sadly). Still, is it me, or an MS program where less than 1/5 of the students actually get to write a dissertation has serious problems, and not in the student body? Because if the published list is, indeed, that of those who passed, something smells funky in E’nbrah this year.

Saves me over 500$ in Software Evaluation Norms, at least, and I do get a Graduate Diploma to hang on the wall.

Hello, I’m having a busy day of talking to myself!

The list hadn’t opened properly the first time, apparently. It’s longer than I’d thought and I did make the cut, so back to writing about How Can Someone Charge 1000$ For A Program That Sucks (And Actually Get Paid) When There’s Free Programs That Work? Of course, the title is more po-lite.

Still, less than half the students made the cut, which still leaves E’nbrah smelling funky.

You have to “get” to write a dissertation? I thought dissertations were part of any graudate program, for all students. That sounds weird.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’.

Nava really. You got “invited” to write a dissertation? So you get the privilege of payin’ big bucks to write one? Well, lucky you! Personally I like your title and wouldn’t change one word.

{{{mmmmmm’s}}} just cause I think you need some more.

doggio remember a good guest does not pee or poop in the pool.

Sorry to hear (read?) about your cousin’s wrist Herbs. Here’s to fast healin’ and good pain meds!

Other than (((((mmmmmmmms))))), I gots nuthin’ but blurfs.

What she said…

Me three!

Whew, I had the blurfs all day yesterday and had to stay home from work. No fun. I was, of course, convinced it was the Hanta virus. Today is progressing nicely though so I guess Scarlett O’Hair was right.

Haha, blurfers! I’m up and caffeinated, medicated and at work already. :stuck_out_tongue:

Swampy, thanks for the wishes - my cousin didn’t have surgery and I’m not sure why and my brother was the one whose wrist was broken. He seems to be doing okay, especially typing with only one hand!

At least it’s hump day.

If you didn’t do well enough in the coursework, you can’t write the dissertation and get a Graduate Diploma instead of an MSc.

The program, at least this year, has been plagued with idjit problems ranking from admitting students whose English wasn’t even adequate for conversation, much less translation, to having different professors applying different criteria (and grading people down on them) on what cite format was acceptable on the same essay. We were given “evaluation criteria” which focused on things like “critical thinking” and then got most of our down-grades for things like “leaving out an optional comma which the professor happened to like”, “register too high” (the one I saw like this was actually a mistake on the ESL teacher’s part, the register might have been too high in Spanish but it was perfectly normal in British English), “register too low” (dude, it’s a paper on humor - huuuuu mor… yes, I included a play on words, don’t shoot me!), or using contraptions. People were freaking out after the midterms, “so what is it they want me to DO, think or poll the teachers on the usage of optional commas?”

So I’m going 74 in a 65 mph zone in the left lane of the freeway. This ASSHOLE gets behind me and tailgates me and flashes his lights! He wants me to pull over behind a garbage truck doing 65 right beside me. When we got past the truck and he got in the next lane, I shot him the bird. Then he pulls over in front of me and steps on the brake!

Dickhead.

{{{mmmmmmmmmmmms}}}

No, not all. I did an M.Eng. (engineering), which was project based. The school also offered M.S. degrees which were thesis based. MBAs generally don’t involve writing a thesis.

I have a continuing case of the blurfs this week. I wanna nap.
