The MMP People Finder (MMP)

Gah. Am home from work, finally. I ended up admitting one of my pts–really, some of these docs and their “same day surgeries”…no way that guy could go home.

weather is bad here with more to come. Trip home was bad due to stupid drivers afraid of a little snow (road was clear). Am grumpy and tired. Really need sleep. Need hot bath first. #1 son just took a shower; #2 son (before I could stop him) took a bath and now #1 son started his laundry! [del] What a bunch of selfish pricks I’ve raised![/del] Not a problem I want to deal with after today. Sucky day at work, really.

I stopped the laundry until after my bath.
The Husband is spending the night in a hotel due to his having to be present tomorrow for this merger thingy he’s working on. I hope there is school tomorrow or else I’ll have to call in–there will be no one here for #2 son. The local HS here has not closed since the blizzard of 1979, so the older kids will be unavailable. Maybe I can twist #1 son’s arm to stay home…

Off to bath and bed. Night all. (oh, and I don’t change a lot of diapers or have a lot of kids to whoever asked upthread. I think my dreams are just weird.)

I am irrationally annoyed at my Weatherbug for constantly asking me about scripts and ActiveX controls. I always click no, three times for the front page, three more times for any other page. It’s run by Internet Explorer, and I use Firefox. I can’t figure out how to fix this, its been over a year, and I’m ready to strangle the bug.
A girls who has been somewhat bullying my oldest was caught by a teacher spitting on her today. The principal sent a letter home asking of there had been other problems with this girl. I’m going to send word that I’m just going to go to the school tomorrow for a visit. I’ve had it with the little shit, she’s been picking on Brandy for the past year, and I’ve had enough. I try to let my kids handle their problems without me having to get involved. (Moooooom! You’re embarrassing me!) But with the history of it, it’s time for me to step in. I’d be tempted to try to talk to the parents, but I saw them last year, and I know it will do no good.
sigh
Pie, I added you to my LJ, I’m roberta_mac.
Sounds like a lot of you had a worse day than I, so hugs all around, and I brought cookies.

Home. I was stuck at work, so i did not get to go to the hockey game. There is a slim chance I might get some time off.

:dubious:
It was the only spoken word in Mel Brooks’ Silent Movie.
It’s an answer in the negative.
At one point in 'You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown", it’s Sally Brown’s new philosophy.
It is sung several times in the second movement of Bohemian Rhapsody.
Need more? :stuck_out_tongue:

eta: (from post # 301, top of this page)

See? you are familiar with that word. Nyah.

Poor doggie. It was a good game, but shouldn’t have had to go to OT. At least I got to see a win for a change!

Oh, the word itself is a concept I’m vaguely aware of…I just don’t hear that word said to me. That’s all.

Yay! Free money! Papa Tigs got his revised disability rating from the VA today – they upped him from 0% to 10%, which means he starts getting a little cash! Not much, mind you, but hey, it’s tax-free!

Not much else going on here. I watched Lost, and am now off to finish up the last smidgen of this work that I’ve been struggling with all week when I felt so awful. Later, everybody, and if it gets too noisy in here, remember Rooms 304A and 304B are available!

Morning all! HRH also says Hi!!!

LiLi, Nat is so cute! He has grown a lot already, and I have no doubt he will soon make your arms ache if you have to hold him for any length of time! It’s good practice for when they start squirming like they’ve got ants in their pants!

MamaT, yay for free money!

Okay, I better go read the rest of the MMP now …

… So, if I ask you if you want to join me in 304, what will you answer? :dubious:

**Dotty **and Lili, the kids are so cute! Is it too early to start the match-making attempts? :stuck_out_tongue:

**Cutie **-- I’ve friended you in my LJ, too. Of course I never update mine, but, well, a Zombie friend is better than no friend at all… right? Right!?

**Spaz **-- you’re wrong. The first against the wall when the revolution comes will be the brick-layers. Karma, you know… Online classes can be second, though, if you want.

Speaking of karma, I think I got some good stuff for me today. Gas station. Three cars on one side of an island – first car still pumping, second and third (me) finished. Can’t pull out forward because of a car pumping in the other lane (near side of other island). Second car is in some unknown hurry (dude? It’s the weekend? Chill already!) and tries to get out by reversing into the other (free) lane, intending to go around both islands after that. Except I’m in the way and there’s someone waiting for a pump behind me…
Guy never says anything, just gets in car and proceeds to try to get out by playing “bumpers” with me **and the car in front still pumping gas! ** After two time bumping me, I honk at him. He gets out all belligerent, and **demands **if it’s too difficult for me to move back a few inches so he can get out.
At this point I told him, and I quote, “If you had asked first instead of trying to bull your way out by bumping me twice, I would have made an effort. But because of your behavior, you’re going to wait here, just like me.”
He waited.

So wait. . . making a guy steaming mad when you could have made his day easier by doing something simple gives you good karma points?! You must count your karma points differently than I do.* :dubious:

Or I missed the whole point of that story. Someone can explain it to me later.

*I don’t actually count karma points, so that’s pretty easy to do.

No; making a guy who was being a total jerk and endangering others in the process* steaming mad by pointing out I’m refusing to enable his behavior is what I’m talking about.

  • Did you miss the part about bumping into the car in front of him, that was still pumping gas, in his rush to gain 5 more seconds in stead of asking me nicely if I could push back a bit**? This was, because he was a jerk, and a dangerous one at that, I made him lose 2 whole minutes of his life (insert gnashing of teeth here)

**FTR, I could have possibly moved 6" back; maybe it could have let him out, maybe not, but I would have been liable to bump the guy behind me, and by the time I realized what was going on I just didn’t feel like making the effort for him! If there had been plenty of room, I would have backed out, too!!

ETA: First on 8!

Oh, I’m on you’re side. If someone honks their horn half a second after a traffic light turns green I go into “good driver” mode. I obey every stop sign with a full stop, and it’s 5 mph under the speed limit the whole way.

Yah, that’s me, I’m that asshole.

Me too, but I also honk back at them.

Up way too early this morning. A bad case of bed rage. Hopefully soon this problem will not exist. Really, it’s ok, though, because I was too tired last night to work on invoices. So I should be mature and do it now…

Naw, I’m not a honker. I rarely honk the horn, even when I probably should. I’m also rather patient. If someone is not accelerating at a green light I usually just wait. It’s the car behind me that starts honking.

This reminds me of another story, one NOT TMI.

I am a huge baseball fan. Love love love the sport. Of course I root for the Red Sox, but I can sit and enjoy a game between any two teams, both professional and minor league. This has not always been the case. Growing up I thought it was a very boring sport. A lot of standing around, and maybe a cool homerun every now and then. I was of the belief that baseball was just a matter of how fast the guy on the mound could throw the ball vs. how hard the guy on home base could hit it…
You know what, I just wrote this thing in my head and this story is much longer than I thought it would be, I’m just going to save yours and my own time and condense it:

There, I hope you enjoyed my story.

Good morning and happy Firday (finally! :)) Woo hoo!!

I read an article online about a supposedly massive Internet outage from Egypt to India and Pakistan–some cables were cut accidentally in the Med. just off Egypt. Supposedly, it slowed the Internet down throughout the Middle East and south Asia. SpecialOne and Dotty, did you notice an internet slowdown on Thursday?

We are going to have rain, heavy at times, most of the day – but thank Og it -is- just rain; to the north and west it will be ice at first changing to rain. It’s just above freezing here, and the temps are supposed to rise into the high 40s. As much as I don’t like going out in the rain, if it had been sleet or freezing rain it would have been twenty times worse!!

Not much on tap for the weekend here; I’m going to see what the weather does first, I think. LOL I do have a couple of new books to peruse, so there is that. Happy Friday all!

herbs, we did have a real slowdown from Wednesday night and all of yesterday. It seems okay now, although they did say to expect problems for up to 10 days!

Herbs, I didn’t notice anything yesterday – but my home connection is kind of slow (for the BroadBand era) and wonky anyway – and the Dope isn’t a very fast site… :p, so I really can’t tell. I haven’t heard people complaining, though – and our international feed is through a cable from Europe to Haifa (as well as via satellites) so I doubt it.

ETA: despite her protestations, **Dotty **seems to have been able to beat me to the draw! Hope you get things fixed fast there! As you can see, Israel and the Arab world tend not to share much infrastructure…

ETA2: Great minds, etc… (and so do we)

Lunch, why am I not surprised that the Israelis and the Arabs don’t even share internet cables?

Wheeeee! Snow Day!!
:: does happy dance ::

Yeah, the world is a weird place, isn’t it?

I’m up, trying to get inspired for work. At least I only have tolerable meetings scheduled for today.

A bunch of schools are closed today, including Columbus. I’m sure it’s different in outlying areas, but right now, it’s 37 Amurrkin degrees and raining. There’s supposed to be some snow later, with about an inch of slush accumulation, but there isn’t anything there right now.

There’s a picture of the snow in Jerusalem in our paper today, SO. Oh, and it’s not encouraging to know that people are uncivilized all over. But, hee on the guy who had to wait.

That’s an interesting short version of your story, beebs. I’m not sure I understood it, but…interesting.

Happy Firday everyone!!!
