I cannot find its origin but the online Magazine has been around since 1999.
Walter Kerr had used it in the early part of the 1900s. Perhaps a better researcher could put a date to it, but I have heard it used quite often.

You will always have trouble here just linking to stories to make your point. Posters from both sides of the argument have been eventually banned for such behaviour.
