The Most Annoying Playlist Ever

So far it’s not annoying me. It would annoy me if it had heartland rock, glitter country (the stuff that sounds like the Eagles) or divas. It would annoy me if it had the Eagles too.

I do want to point out something about the Shaggs – listen carefully. They may all each be on their own planet rhythmically, but free jazzers work hard to create the same sound. They don’t sound weird at all to me because it sounds like pop free jazz. Or if you need another something like it, I’d nominate Captain Beefheart “Frownland.”

Speaking of Beefheart, he was mentally ill as well. I’m not sure why the double standard.

“My Ding-A-Ling” --Chuck Berry.

In fact Berry may hold the record for being one of the few artists having one of the best songs (“Johnny B Good”) of all time and one of the worst (“My Ding-A-Ling”).

Also speaking of annoying songs and Christmas time approaching…

“Grandma Got Ran over by a Reindeer”.

I think there is a distinction between an annoying song and annoying because it’s overplayed song. Hotel California was a fine song the first 100,000 times I heard it but now it’s annoying.

I am at 46 minutes now. Anyone curious as to what songs are on it can link to it here.

But it does deserve at least honorable annoying status for its role in Family Guy S6E2

As a child of Sesame Street, that is truly disturbing. Nice video though.

I have a song from a maybe great, at least legendary album that’s unlistenable when taken out of context. It’s “Don’t Leave Me Now” by Pink Floyd from “The Wall” of course. As a 11 year old in 1979/80, I could only afford the singles from that album (first was “Another Brick In The Wall” backed with “One Of My Turns”), and the second single was “Run Like Hell” with “Don’t Leave Me Now” as the B-side. I thought “What the shit is this? It’s awful.” and never listened again to the B-side. It’s a song that only makes sense in the context of the album and its story.

So many songs, so little time!

Seasons in the Sun - Terry Jacks
Hooked on a Feeling - Blue Swede
Brand New Key - Melanie
Playground in My Mind - Clint Holmes
How Do You Do - Mouth and MacNeil

That’s five. If you need more, just ask

There’s also “Earache, My Eye” by Cheech & Chong.

How about “Playground In My Mind”?

Two words - “Sherry Baby”

Sorry, this one’s fantastic. Sent up the glam thing so well.

The story (allegedly) behind “No Way No Way” was that it was the result of a bet between music producers involving getting the worst song to #1. And it did indeed briefly chart at #1 in the UK.

And then was never heard again, thankfully.

Two words – “Avenging Annie.”

Do you know, I’ve never heard this? But I’ve heard so much about it, I ain’t clickin’.

Same here. I’m afraid I’ll get an earworm that’ll burrow into my brain…

For me, the most annoying were from the old pre-cassette days where your only music was the radio. If your city only had three Top 40 stations, you heard the top ten songs over and over. So if you think “Yummy yummy yummy/I’ve got love in my tummy” is annoying, imagine hearing it for the tenth time on a road trip, then punching the little bakelite button on your car’s AM radio and getting “Sugar, Sugar” (followed by “Yummy Yummy”).

“The Postman Song,” by Stevie B… Total glurge and he doesn’t hit the proper pitch once.
