The Most Annoying Playlist Ever

An actual playlist I am making on Spotify because reasons. I understand individual preferences; for example I love bagpipe music but almost everyone else finds it annoying. And there will be a few songs on there I really like but I know the general population hates. Here is what I have so far and share your thoughts and ideas. As a note, I am not including Komar and Malamid’s The Most Unwanted Song because people actually like it. The song they don’t like is their The Most Wanted Song so that may make the list.

Crispin Glover - These Boots are Made for Walking
The ultimate “Oh God Why?!”
Daniel Johnston - True Love Will Find You in the End
Similar to Wild Man Fischer below, a victim of mental illness. Those that know his backstory may appreciate his work but those that don’t (99.998% of the populous) will just find his songs annoying.
The Beach Boys - California Saga (The Beaks of Eagles)
Spoken word / Song about a She Eagle
Louden’s Bonnie Trees and Brae
I don’t know about you, but I just get a great big lump in my throat every time I hear that anthem.
The Shaggs - My Pal Foot Foot
Most popular song from the worst band ever
Wild Man Fischer - Outside the Hospital
When you know his backstory, a tragic song.
El Chombo - Chacarron
You ever wonder where Grade A Double A got the annoying sound clip? This song here.

I saw Wilco end a show with this song a few years ago. I really liked it, but I’ve never heard the original. Was there something particularly annoying about Johnston’s version?

As for your playlist, might I suggest Frank Zappa’s “I Come From Nowhere”?

Here I was coming in to suggest that, and you already had it!

The only place I ever heard it, and thank goodness!, was it was used as the walkup music for one of the AZ Diamondbacks. We were like, what da fuk is this??

Any room on the playlist for “Revolution #9” or “You Know My Name Look Up the Number”?

Yes, they’ve been covering that forever, I have a copy of it… somewhere. The original is fine.

I enjoy the Shaggs song. I wonder whatever happened to that movie they were going to make about them.

I like Ministry, and I liked the Dead Kennedys, but when Jello Biafra and Al Jourgensen collaborated on the Lard EP, the track on the flip side, “Time to Melt” was unlistenable sludge that droned on for over half an hour. Hated it, couldn’t tough it out even once (and I’ve sat through Metal Machine Music once or twice).

I’d also include his “Songs For Sale”… which is just him approaching people on the street and offering to write them a song. We never get to hear any of the songs…
I’d sometimes start out a mixtape with that.

I believe Frank Zappa promoted him, along with other quirky artists like the GTOs (“Girls Together Outrageously”).

I would like to nominate “Surfin’ Bird” by the Trashmen, and “Rubber Biscuit” by the Blues Brothers.

Done

Very off-tone. You should(n’t?) hear it.

I’ll check out Surfin’ Bird but Rubber Biscuit is very not-annoying.

I remember when “Surfin’ Bird” was banned by the rock station in Anchorage after a phone-in vote.

I’d recommend “Party All The Time” by Eddy Murphy.

Oh crap I forgot one.
Christmas Shoes.
Only one person likes it and after meeting her you would say, “That makes sense.”

Oh man, Surfin Bird is great! And it did fairly well (is doing fairly well?) in the recent SDMB poll on songs that start with S. I mean, it’s doing as well as Suspicious Minds and Surfin USA, and it’s doing better than Sweet Home Alabama.

Eta: Macarena has to be in a playlist like this. And perhaps All By Myself by Green Day.

I can’t believe you didn’t include the most obvious song.

(That’s maybe snark)
doo doo doo doo doo

From over at the Classical charts: Ravel’s Bolero.

From this list, based on what I’ve actually heard, #19, Roy Buchanan “Sneaking Godzilla through the Alley” is exceptionally annoying.

Speaking of Crispin Glover…

“Where the Hell Is Crisping Glover” by The Warlock Pinchers

I think when you know the real-life story, the Shaggs saga is kind of depressing. But I like the record too.

Anyway, here’s my favorite annoying group - the Holy Modal Rounders

I haven’t heard “Hold On” by Wilson Phillips as much over the past few years as I did for quite a few before that. I swear, for a while I could not go somewhere and NOT hear it!

How about the Beach Boys’ “Kokomo”? How did that ever get recorded, anyway?

Played this on my high school radio station. Our faculty advisor made me take the 45 to the woodshop and cut it up on a bandsaw.
