We were stopped at the pamphlet signboard of the Tule Elk reserve in the central valley of California, and a pickup truck passed us. In the back was a little moustached, whiskery chihuahua peering over the wall of the truck bed.
After awhile, we drove along the circular road. We found the chihuahua we had seen, and a mom chihuahua who had recently had pups, and about five six-week old pups dumped by the side of the road. We couldn’t stop for them because we had no way to transport them in our two-seater car, but we drove to the ranger station at the entrance and let them know. They were really pissed, and they sent someone out right away to pick up the dogs.
find your local newspaper, register for an account, and leave comments on certain articles about the dealerships (by name) flying the flags in a disrespectful way. It will eventually get back to them.
I don’t count mis-use of a flag as the worst thing I’ve ever seen and it is getting harder and harder to find groups who can dispose of them properly. We have only two groups (one is a VFW) that have the ability to dispose of US flags.
This would rank VERY HIGH on my ‘most disgusting thing’ list and I’d be tempted to point out the needle-dicks and make fun of them for being ignorant sods… I’d be willing to bet they had beer in their purchase. Fucking jackasses.
I was a kid at the local McDonalds one saturday afternoon. A couple of hunters pulled up and parked their truck right in front of the windows of McDonanlds, with a freshly decapitated moose head strapped to the hood of their truck, tongue hanging out and all. There was plenty of other parking spots in the parking lot, they didn’t need to park there. I have nothing against hunting big game for food. But at least be classy about it and not freak out a bunch of kids.
Near as I can figure, these jerks do such stuff to reassure themselves that they are men. Must have some deep-seated feeling of sexual inadequacy and this is how they deal with it. All the same, I would feel comfortable smacking both of them across the occiput with a tire iron.
Several years ago, my husband and I were driving behind an old, beat up car with it’s trunk open. Around here, at that time, it wasn’t unusual to see people hauling around non-trunk things, like lumber, furniture, kids. But this trunk, contained a dog, and he was tied to something inside the trunk. When the car stopped at a light, the dog jumped out, and was pulled behind when the light changed. Luckily, there were enough witnesses, that everyone was shouting at the driver, and his window was down. And the dog had managed to stay on his feet. I couldn’t help but think, it wasn’t the first time.
I was once at the salad bar in one of NYC’s Korean grocers. I saw a homeless man take a hardboiled egg, put it in his mouth, whole, then take it out and put it back where it came from. I told the cashier, but I’m sure nothing was done.
I just remembered this one. I came home one day to find the sleaziest, skankiest woman I’ve ever seen urinating straight down the middle of my building’s driveway. Yes, pants & underwear down, junk out for all the world to see, peeing right down the middle of the driveway. We nearly hit her with our car when we pulled in. Her equally sleazy boyfriend was peeing against the building next door.
The only thing that kept me from going absolutely apeshit on those two disgusting dirtbags was the fact that I was with my sweet, passive, very Christian parents and didn’t want to flip out in front of them.
I’ve walked past people on the streets of NYC who were either urinating or defecating. And I mean, ON the sidewalk or IN the street next to the curb between parked trucks. I find it to be disgraceful that a city cannot provide some public toilets so indigents are not forced to use the streets.
Seen folks wail on their children in stores or on the street. It ALWAYS upsets me and I sometimes say something, sometimes do not. I always feel badly when I do not.
We watched a young man- 22?- verbally abuse and shove his girlfriend on the street during a heated discussion. She stopped walking by way of trying to control the situation. He was so angry that she’d stopped that he shoved her and grabbed her arm hard. She was clearly frightened and then he cursed at her and turned and strode away. She ran after him.
A set pattern that intervention by a stranger would not alter. Painful to witness…
I recently attended an administrative hearing of people contesting parking tickets. The guilty were first sworn in and given an opportunity to talk to the hearing officer who took each case under submission. These were extremely poor people who wanted some sort of reduction in their fines. Living on fixed incomes, with fines of $150 to $200 for things like parking over lines, expired registration.
I was also contesting, and I objected that there was no evidence entered by the city. I correctly preserved the objection with a number of others. I did not testify. I lost.
I did have the pleasure of tearing the hearing officer a new one, very politely, for being on the payroll of one of the parties (the city) and only requiring one side to present evidence, and taking excessive amounts of money from the poor and elderly. He ruled against me and ignored most of my objections.
This has been tried. They just destroy them or live in them.
Now, let me state again, that most of the homeless are OK people. Some have a minor mental health or drug issue, some choose this as a lifestyle, and some are just the “one job away from being homeless then lost that paycheck”.
But a significant minority are batshit crazy and will crap all over the toilet, after tearing everything apart, stopping up the toilet then flooding the floor, and in general run up maintenance costs to a impossible level. This is the same reason why we can’t just open up things like empty warehouses so that the homeless can sleep in them. The minority ruin it for all of them. This is also why shelters have strict rules.
Umm, you do know that real Judges are “on the payroll of one of the parties “, right? Altho you do have it right that some of these hearing officers think that they serve to protect that party as opposed to “the People”.
I was in Southwest China, crossing a bridge on a bike. I saw a bunch of people peering over the bridge into the river, maybe 25 feet below. There was a body of a young man who had clearly been murdered.
A moment later some police come cruising by on a scooter. I wave them down, and one cop points at me and says, “Laowai! [Foreigner!]” They pull over a moment later, and walk over to me. They see the body, gawk a little bit, shrug their shoulders, get back on the scooter and motor away.
I swear they were more interested in seeing an American than the murder victim.
