The Most Disgraceful Thing You've Ever Seen (Especially in Public)

What does this mean?

I think it probably doesn’t come from detached animal heads displayed on cars outside of restaurants.

Damn. You mean no moose head burgers at McDonalds?! I thought it was a delivery.

You’re correct. It comes from animals which are kept in abhorrent, overcrowded conditions, loaded with growth hormones, prophylactic antibiotics, fed an unnatural diet that deviates so far from their natural food that they often suffer internal and external lesions and other painful, crippling horrors of malnutrition before they are put out of their misery in a manner far more economical than humane. The moose, at least, most likely ate a natural diet, had freedom to roam, mate, and experience a dignified life suited to its knowledge and abilities.

Yes and a ten year old kid is likely to know this and understand the implications. Tell the truth: you were the hunter, weren’t you?

Quite the opposite. Lifelong vegetarian until I became anemic while pregnant, then I learned to force it down for awhile. Kids need to know where our food comes from, and it isn’t pretty. The reason we find such abhorrent and inhumane conditions in factory farms is because we choose to pretend that the animals we consume are treated well. Less than four generations ago we raised and killed our own and we certainly aren’t healthier now for our ignorance.

Hunted animals killed humanely have a far better existence, is the takeaway.
(sorry for the hijack; if this needs it’s own thread, I’ll participate with cites and stats)

Not unless you order the Unhappy Meal.

I forgot about this one… I used to know a single mother who would make her 5 year old son sit outside of a bar while she was inside drinking.

Perversely amusing…

I saw a woman smack a toddler in the face(hard) with loaf of bread, at the grocery store.

I worked in a drugstore that had a little water-cooler for customer use. A woman with a little boy and even younger girl were waiting for a prescription, and the little girl kept filling cups with water and dumping them out on the floor. Just as I was about to say something, the little boy went to stop his sister and take the cup away. The woman freaked out at him and started hollering at him to leave her be, it doesn’t matter, this isn’t their house…

I really hope she got her meds.

Of a sedan?

I’m also not seeing the problem with the dog in the trunk.

Would you ride in a trunk? Transport a child there? A trunk isn’t ventilated, isn’t heated/cooled, is right above the exhaust that may be leaking. A dog is a living, breathing creature deserving of a habitat that supports life, not suffocates it or freezes/cooks it.

It’s a dog, not a child and a trip to the park in the trunk isn’t going to hurt it at all. Hell at least the owner is taking his dogs out for a run rather than just leaving them at home all day.

I was unaware of that. Real judges are on the payroll of the state, which is sometimes a party. A local attorney who serves as administrative officer and is only paid by the municipality.

Correctly preserving an objection requires, in California, asking for a ruling on the objection and getting one or a promise to rule in the order on the objections.

I’d give this lady the benefit of the doubt - the word ‘spunk’ has two meanings, and not everyone knows about the semen-related one. Saying the shoes are “Spunkalicious” as in “loud and brash and full of personality” makes a lot more contextual sense than, “good footwear for Mom’s bukakke night,” especially when said by a seven year old.

Tell the truth: you were the trunk transporter, weren’t you?

No, I’ve only got one dog, she’s ridden in the trunk a few times though.

Not particularly, in England. It’s apparently an older definition (and AmE), but here spunk means semen.

I’m surprised by those who don’t see anything wrong with transporting an animal in the trunk of a car. I know trunks aren’t airtight, so the animal likely won’t suffocate if it’s for a short period of time, but as troppus**** has already pointed out it’s not a temperature controlled environment, air quality is poor, not to mention the fact that it must be terrifying to be alone in a dark environment like that.

Anyway, speaking of animals, I’ve seen people hitting their dogs in public. I’ve also seen people who are clearly mentally ill or homeless with puppies who look like they were just purchased from the pet store. I think that’s shameful on behalf of the pet store, selling an animal to anyone without ensuring that they have the ability or resources to care for it.

I also saw a guy who had cats and guinea pigs on display near Bryant Park and was charging people a fee to pet them. This was a few years ago when I was a teenager and I didn’t think to call the Humane Society on him. Shame on me for that.

Depends on the circumstances. The other dog mentioned was in the passenger compartment of the car, so I’m assuming they had to be separated for some reason. If the weather is okay (like good enough for a nice walk in the park) and the drive is only a mile or two, and the dog isn’t freaking out, I’m fine with it. Some dogs like to be in crates, some dogs (Romney’s) apparently like the roof.
